I wouldn't know, I keep trying to find them in stores but the pressings always sell out in a week.

am I the only that dislike the vocal samples on Efdemin's new album? (and also on his mix album, for that matter). they sound pretentious and, i don't know, pointless in a tacked-on kind of way.
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Saturday, 5 June 2010 11:11 (sixteen years ago)
not really sure a sample of bart simpson playing a video game is particularly pretentious but sure, i suppose pointless, if you like. i don't mind them.
― No disre but maryanne hobbs is peng trust me (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 5 June 2010 11:16 (sixteen years ago)
it's a shame that the few posters worth reading on dance music around here are reduced to cheap zings nowadays
i should give that efdemin album another chance i guess. it *sounds* great and is obv well made but none of it really struck out at me on first listen, something that seems to be par for the course with alot of this contemporary deep house stuff that's coming out at the moment. also, played out respect the tradition signifier in the title
― fuckd and bombd (r1o natsume), Saturday, 5 June 2010 11:57 (sixteen years ago)
that new sandwell district thing is excellent, really melodic sci-fi techno
― fuckd and bombd (r1o natsume), Saturday, 5 June 2010 11:59 (sixteen years ago)
better cheap zings than expensive ones, but yeah I hear you!
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Saturday, 5 June 2010 12:09 (sixteen years ago)
efdemin album title is admittedly lame. Production is just beautiful. Album feels very slight for me on the first listen. Only a couple of engaging tracks. Not to be Geir but not much going on melodically especially when compared with the last one.
― No disre but maryanne hobbs is peng trust me (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 5 June 2010 12:13 (sixteen years ago)
yeah i like that tho
― plax (ico), Saturday, 5 June 2010 16:55 (sixteen years ago)
i do too. and definitely did too when i was listening to the dry - i don't mean that as a criticism - mid 00s minimal that this often reminds me of. I suppose it's preferable that this seems not really to be as Chicago as the title would imply in the sense that pat deep house revivalism is uninspiring.
― No disre but maryanne hobbs is peng trust me (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 5 June 2010 17:11 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, i mean the mnml ship-jumping of like 2007 just seemed really silly maybe, I get that the ultra-touchstoney stuff in this is pretty offputting considering the "deep" overload lately, but it still feels like a natural development of what the dude was doing on say America

Who needs zings when the people who stick up for you say shit like this? This pretty much sums it up more than any insult could.
As far as adding something constructive to this thread; Night Lights by Oliverwho Factory on Planet E is dope. Ultra Fine by Omar S. on FXHE is really good as well.
My tip for new US producers to be up on right now is Jason Letkiewicz. He records under the names Steve Summers and Rhythm Based Lovers. Steve Summers is his acid pseudonym and he did a record on Jack For Daze last year and is just dropping a new joint on Echovolt this week. If you are looking for OG Chi house done right, don't sleep on it. Also check his Rhythm Based Lovers releases for really smooth new school boogie. He is a talented guy.

haha, I like how you have to come back every few minutes for the last 36 minutes or so posting sorta zings. It's like you post something, pace around the room for a bit, post again, really think hard for 15 minutes and then give up in frustration.
The main problem you are going to have with zinging me about my music is that I am doing exactly what I want and I am having more success than I ever dreamed possible. I could list my achievements here, but I don't like to get real specific on message boards. Long story short, I have moved beyond what is normally considered successful for an underground vinyl-only artist in 2010. I did it with only three releases on a couple of no-budget bedroom labels with a studio that looks like a rummage sale.
Basically, it boils down to a few clowns on ILM who got butthurt when they got called on their wack taste Vs. the support of a lot of people who I never would have guessed would be into what I do.
Shake played my shit all across Europe during the Frictionalism tour and Tama Sumo plays my shit in the Berghain. Do you really think you can come up with a zing clever enough to take that away from me?

― Lil' Lj & The World (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 6 June 2010 02:08 (sixteen years ago)
Just find your negativity and housier than though attitude tiresome. Made a few cheap jokes at your music, which hasn't really made any impact on me either way, and you come out with that extremely laughable screed. Glad to know wisdom doesn't come with age and that achievement is not its own award, you really need to show other people you've achieved and tell them how much worse their taste is on the internet.
― Lil' Lj & The World (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 6 June 2010 02:12 (sixteen years ago)

― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 6 June 2010 08:23 (sixteen years ago)
Well I just find this intercontinental pissing contest deeply boring.
We're a bunch of music nerds squabbling on a public forum, you'd think we could find things in common to talk about.
But no, its got to be about who's more "real". Who uses Ableton, who uses hardware.
Who grew up in Michigan, who grew up in Europe. Who gives a shit? Really?
I work 7 days a week in a factory in Wisconsin, my room is a fucking shrine to disco. Is that "real" enough for the asshole contingent?
Can I just geek out about the music I love and not tread on anyone's toes now?

he was talking about vahid! glad things are going well for you, shame you feel the need to make dour comments about music people like though, maybe you need more success to be happy enough that you don't need to hate other people. mostly the whole net/music fusion is fairly negative imo, others may disagree, but personally, and this is part coincidence, i have never loved what i do as much as i do now, amazingly there is life beyond blogging, who'd have thunk such a mad thing.
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 6 June 2010 13:13 (sixteen years ago)
The funny thing is that I wasn't even being dour, I was being silly. It is great that you are taking the high road considering you are the one who started the whole thing.
Honestly, I don't hate you. To me you represent what was bad about the last decade and every day I see that stuff getting swept away more and more. It is like being mad at Hawtin for bad mnml in 2006, it is so discredited that there really isn't any point in getting worked up about it. It is good to hear that you have moved on to something that you are better suited for.
This is the last I will post on this thread for awhile. I don't have time between a new job, family, and music.
It depends, it is only real enough if you work for a union in something hardcore like a foundry or a stamping plant. Light industrial assembly doesn't count. (joking)
I am sorry if I got you worked up, I was not trying to zing you.

you should prolly start proofreading your posts if you don't want them all to sound like hateful snark btw
― plax (ico), Monday, 7 June 2010 23:42 (sixteen years ago)
XP No worries.
And its silicone rubber molding, I get blisters, but not on a regular basis.
I honestly think that this whole argument could be avoided if you just think of mnml and techno as being completely separate musical entities with occasional similarities. I like minimal, but mostly the high end Perlon in 2003-05 variety. I just think of it as an extension of minimal composers like Reich and the whole New York school mixed with the last bits and pieces of Euro rave.
Do I think that makes it superior to good techno? No, its just different. Different set of tools and different aesthetics.
No one is really making bank off it anymore so I don't really know if there's anything left to hate on.
But I do really love the kind of tech funk that comes out on Wolf and Lamb for instance. Lee Curtiss, that kind of thing.
Anyone hear that track up on Little White Earbuds by Gadi Mizrahi and Soul Clap? About a month ago?
