30,000 sold would likely mean it's a hit these days, btw, as far as that goes.
also, i'm guessing it might be an indie thing considering i doubt the paper planers are gonna stick around for IWASBOOOORNFREEEEE nanananananananananana

Hirschberg hell now comprises the totality of reality -- removing a bookmark will not change the constitution of the Absolute

this thread kind of a microcosm for what reading about indie bands on the internet is like in 2010

hey guys, dirty projjies covered a bob dylan song iirc

Thread still needs a link to 1000TimesYes to accomplish that in full, iirc.
xp

xp A microcosm? This thread is literally about reading about indie bands on the internet in 2010.

Nabisco weighs in, apparently:
"Maya Arulpragasam was never a politically sophisticated thinker. We knew that already. What else do we know about her?"

The question was never if she was a politically sophisticated thinker. The question was is she a more politically sophisticated thinker than Bono, who she takes down and implies is a less politically sophisticated thinker than she is. Which is truly begging the question.

the way ksh has elevated from one of the worst posters to one of the best posters is a magnificent feat like Dr. Dre going from the World Class Wreckin Cru to The Chronic in the span of a month

nabiscos essay is v smart and i agree with it, but can pitchfork not afford em-dashes or something
― max, Friday, 4 June 2010 14:42 (sixteen years ago)
nabisco i think is pretty much otm as usual, and i hope that his write-up re-frames the discussion from "wow look at the pop voice of the third world engorging herself in wanton luxury" to something more along the lines of "wait does MIA's imagery align herself with the oppressed or the oppressors?" which I think would make off-hand remarks about her 'incoherence' more, er, coherent...

If you go back to the NME/Melody Maker reviews of the second Clash album, you actually see pretty much the same arguments [nabisco] is making about casual use of revolutionary violence. It's Joe Strummer's Red Brigade shirt all over again.
― Haunted Clocks For Sale (Dorianlynskey), Friday, 4 June 2010 15:56 (sixteen years ago)
I once asked Nabisco himself why Pitchfork's style is "blah blah-- excuse me-- blah blah" rather than "blah blah -- excuse me -- blah blah" and he said it had to do with line breaks (you wouldn't want to split one of those double hyphens), but yeah I don't know why they don't just use em-dashes.
