musiq album sounding 6/10-ish on first listen. 'ms philadelphia' is nice

r|t|c, Friday, 9 March 2007 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

haha yes "easily her best" is literally saying bugger all!

r|t|c, Friday, 9 March 2007 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

So what's up with the Megan Rochelle album? And why hasn't she seem any chart action? "Betcha" sounds great and I loved "Heartbreak." Why no chart action for her?

matt2, Friday, 9 March 2007 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

I like the Joss Stone single too! Glad to know I'm not the only one.

The Reverend, Friday, 9 March 2007 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

Well, Megan has had about 4 singles and none of them have caught on, so I don't know about the album...

The Brainwasher, Friday, 9 March 2007 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

no hold on, 'the one you need' w/ fabolous has been her only proper single so far really - i can't say i grasped what success that managed in the us from all the way over here but i'm thinking it was the kind of sleeper that def jam execs never ever have the balls to follow up whilst they're so busy rushing out rihanna's 800th alb in 6 months. 'floating/let go' is only just building heat right now i thought, altho roll deep have already sampled it so who knows.

anyway there wz a 6 track sampler of all this stuff last summer, and 'you me and the radio' turned up a month or so ago. 'heartbreak' def hasnt properly come out as far as i know.

r|t|c, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

Well amazon tells me I can pre-order "You, Me and the Radio" for shipment around December 1, 2010. So maybe the album isn't coming. It'd be a shame. According to Billboard.com her only charting US single was "Floating" and it peaked at #55 Hot R&B/Hip-Hop in 2006.

matt2, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

hm ok, so 'let go' is the current single then. i'm sticking with def jam lacking the conviction anyway - if they'd knocked out 'heartbreak' in june when they had it then people would be all over the ballads now, which isn't to say the ballads arent great by themselves but yknow. i don't think they even made videos for them either.

r|t|c, Friday, 9 March 2007 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, "Heartbreak" coulda been a great summer time single.

matt2, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

aren't saadiq and stone, like, going out or something? i don't like the new single (i have actually enjoyed her in the past, 'you had me' was way better than this).

the thing with the bobby valentino song is that it's very lovely to listen to but it's rather hookless innit.

lex pretend, Monday, 12 March 2007 07:37 (nineteen years ago)

ha whats that singalonga europop tune that went "hey! i wanna knoo-ooo-oow"?? i always wanna bust out into that when bobby goes into his chorus.

saadiq exec prodded the whole joss alb, it seems.

MEG ROCHELL WATCH: she sangs he hook on peedi crakk's ridiculously wicked new rockwilder party single!! http://www.zshare.net/audio/27-peedi_peedi_feat-_megan_rochell-take_me_home-mp3.html

r|t|c, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

"Icebox" remix featuring Usher available here:

http://concreteloop.com/2007/03/the-icebox-remix

Sounds...pretty much the same.

matt2, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

wow saadiq and stone really are going out... i always kinda imagined him & teedra as like this proper country music style couple doing duet albums together one day and stuff :(

r|t|c, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

and listen daddy i'm too cute to fight / U BETTER GET THAT BITCH TOLD TONIGHT

r|t|c, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

according to perezhilton there's a picture of them in a naked embrace on her new alb :(

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

yoo hoo

r|t|c, Friday, 16 March 2007 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

it doesn't sound very meg-like! (he says off the knowledge of 2 megan songs and 1 listen to this)

lex pretend, Friday, 16 March 2007 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

yes, perhaps she sounds a bit mya-ish? or maybe i mean ashanti, it's been ages since i heard either. the IT IS FLAMING HOTNESS AAAH angle not doing it for anyone tho?

just heard the icebox rmx on the radio (ie actually listened to it)... quietly remarkable! usher playing the older, wiser, regretful head to omarion's agonied young rome(m)o (...), almost scolding him for his grandstanding, deepens the whole loveknot thing beautifully. tearful bro chats in rnb rule 4ever.

[Usher] hear me, listen
hold up now take your time let me get
this right (uhn hun) you trippin on
whats in front of you cause you
lookin behind you (yeah but i mean)you got
memories(but) take it from me she aint nuttin
like oh girl you used to know shawtys
doin right by you maybe
you should let it go at the end of the day
it aint worth it, wanna know how i know
(how you know) you know
my confessions so you already know thats
its gonna hurt shawty learn your lesson you
dont really wanna feel the burn

[hook2]if u really wanna work it out just stop denyin quit
livin in the past of time u face the truth if u really
wanna work it out you gotta stop lyin stop blamin her
when its
you
[chorus2]u got this ice box where your heart
used to be you got this ice box where your heart used to be

r|t|c, Saturday, 17 March 2007 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

talking of mya why is she boring now?

lex pretend, Sunday, 18 March 2007 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

Just read Sanneh's piece about Thicke... the nutt seemed to be that he's white. Anyway, I downloaded a bunch of his songs and was completely disappointed. His voice is kinda annoying, whiny, without a lot of emotion that seems intentionally conveyed, at least on "Lost Without U." Am I missing the fuss? (reading some of the messages here, I see that he isn't universally liked... but what am I missing?)

Mordechai Shinefield, Sunday, 18 March 2007 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

talking of mya why is she boring now?

Because she always has been and there's no reason to expect her to change.

The Reverend, Monday, 19 March 2007 00:30 (nineteen years ago)

whats new with r-les that worth fussing over ???

pollywog, Monday, 19 March 2007 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

Not important, but since it was mentioned upthread, here's the picture of Stone and Saadiq from her album:

matt2, Monday, 19 March 2007 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

a propos of nothing, but i really like that current akon single. the one that rips off pachelbel's canon and bob marley. it's sweet.

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 17:16 (nineteen years ago)

Because she always has been and there's no reason to expect her to change.

i just went back to 'case of the ex', 'things come & go', 'moodring', 'whatever bitch' and 'late', and i say NO, she was never boring!

i'm really really really really feeling tamia's 'can't get enough'...whoever knew i could still be a sucker for a plucked acoustic guitar!

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 March 2007 23:54 (nineteen years ago)

Really loving this song at the moment:

The Brainwasher, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:02 (nineteen years ago)

Mya wasn't boring at all, I actually think she's one of the most interesting (on record) personalities that modern R&B has produced (have no idea about her IRL).

Megan's "Betcha" really embodies the New Sweet Amateurism in R&B - it's like Nivea meets Lumidee or something. I like it, but kinda feel it's one of those litmus tests things, like if I was any less invested in R&B generally I'd be totally underwhelmed by it.

Speaking of Lumidee, I haven't heard her cover of Patrick Swayze's "She's Like The Wind" but the entire notion fascinates me. Anyone heard it?

Tim F, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:20 (nineteen years ago)

she raps the entire thing and tony sunshine sings - i only found out about an hour ago that it's a cover! i do not know the original. i did not know that patrick swayze sang.

(i like it)

lex pretend, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:23 (nineteen years ago)

I've heard it... it's hardly a Lumidee song. This guy named Tony Sunshine sings the whole thing basically.

As for Mya... I don't think she's boring at all! She had her fair share of great songs... Moodring is a good album. Honestly, I didn't like her new single at all at first, but it has really grown on me.

The Brainwasher, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:24 (nineteen years ago)

wow that deemi track is AMAZING!

lex pretend, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:54 (nineteen years ago)

I've had the R. Kelly track (T.I./T. Pain one) on repeat for over 45 minutes, and I'm still not sick of it. I'm such a sucker for a catchy piano riff, though.

Tape Store, Friday, 23 March 2007 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

wow that deemi track is AMAZING!

Yeah, isn't it?

Anyway, here's Amerie's second single:

http://www.supload.com/listen?s=Su3p686wUf_

Much better than "Take Control".

The Brainwasher, Saturday, 24 March 2007 02:05 (nineteen years ago)

I don't really think it's any better or worse than "Take Control". Both are songs that I like, but can't really get excited over. Ethan's right about new R&B sounding like old Lords Of The Underground. At this point I kind of wish Amerie would go back to a more subdued All I Have style.

The Reverend, Saturday, 24 March 2007 05:23 (nineteen years ago)

that cover is wonderful.

i got really really excited about 'take control' ("I FIND HIM I FORGIVE HIM I FEED HIM") - i like this new one but not at that omg stage yet.

anyone want to tell me more about shareefa? heard a couple of songs today, 'i need a boss' and 'u told me', and they're both amazing!

lex pretend, Saturday, 24 March 2007 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

"I Need A Boss" is horribull! Not even a Luda spot could save that one.

The Reverend, Saturday, 24 March 2007 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

Lex, track down Shareefa's "Hey Babe", a duet with Bobby Valentino, it's a very pretty slow-jam with awesome horns.

It oddly reminds me of Ginuwine track circa '99 - maybe it's because the chorus sounds like something Ginuwine or Missy would have come up with at about that time.

Tim F, Sunday, 25 March 2007 04:15 (nineteen years ago)

"I Need A Boss" is horribull! Not even a Luda spot could save that one.

You're out of your mind.

Anyway, Lex there's some talk about Shareefa at the top of the thread. I'd definitely recommend her album.

The Brainwasher, Sunday, 25 March 2007 04:33 (nineteen years ago)

Tape Store on Friday, March 23, 2007 5:01 AM (2 days ago)

Me too - I've been switching between this and "Like A Boy" all day long. R. gets straight to the point: "Hey- I'm black, handsome, I sing........plus I'm rich"

tpp, Sunday, 25 March 2007 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

Has anyone heard the Joss Stone album? I'm tempted to buy it, because I can't stop playing the song "Music" with Lauryn Hill... Lauryn's part is meh (more Unplugged-esque wacko ramblings), but otherwise it's awesome.

The Brainwasher, Monday, 26 March 2007 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

i would have sex with all this ameries

and what, Monday, 26 March 2007 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

Remember the video for "Why Don't We Fall in Love"? Legs for days

deej, Monday, 26 March 2007 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, the Shareefa album's pretty strong if not particularly memorable. good 90's Mary J. vibe complete with a bunch of Darkchild/Chucky Thompson productions.

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 26 March 2007 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

Remember the video for "Why Don't We Fall in Love"? Legs for days

Haha - when I was 16, I'd watch the vh1 soul channel all day, waiting for that video.

(Okay, I was a rather pathetic 16-y.o. I admit that.)

The Reverend, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

New Rihanna:

http://www.defjam.com/site/artist_av.php?artist_id=586

I love those drums.

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 29 March 2007 21:37 (nineteen years ago)

OMG I totally have to buy the 12'' now.

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 29 March 2007 22:49 (nineteen years ago)

totally obsessed! WHEN THE SUN SHINES WE'LL SHINE TOGETHER, TOLD U I'D BE HERE FOREVER...

not convinced rihanna really knows how umbrellas work though.

lex pretend, Friday, 30 March 2007 07:17 (nineteen years ago)

Okay I know you will all be hating on me for this but guess what: I really like the new Macy Gray album even though, troublingly, will.i.am is all over this thing like, well, like dread extensions all over will.i.am.

Dimension 5ive, Saturday, 31 March 2007 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Lil' Mama's "Lip Gloss" is amazing: nothing but hard-edged drum stomps and vocals.
