like he's soaked up a lot of nu-wayne diarrhea mouth repetitive "dick like...X" "fuck her like [X]" type flows, even the cadences seem waynish to me.
yeah like i said on the swag thread before, i have a hard time getting interested in the SO WEIRD AND UNFILTERED elements of his music when a lot of the eccentricities feel pretty similar to the established Wayne blueprint of 'eccentric rappers.' i get that the volume of his output and the variation and inconsistency holds appeal for some people who really want a Robert Pollard Of Rap or whatever, but it's like...if one of the members of Pretty Ricky or the Shop Boyz recorded constantly for a year and put every single song on the internet, i'm sure they'd end up with some weird interesting stuff but i dunno how much of it i'd wanna hear...i should stop before Noz starts sending me angry messages again, though.

"Swag on my Dick", posted above, has to be my favorite. It couldn't be lower brow, and that's where it succeeds, in my opinion.

pretty funny that he reads this thread (tho not surprising i guess, he's been all over CB's comment section) - what up lil b

jesus. between that blog post and his acting like a fuckin 12 yr old on twitter today has not been very #based

pretty ricky were already way way weirder than this guy fwiw

i still can't get past the stage where this dude is super-compelling in small doses and super-boring after, idk, 4-5 songs at any one time. also, this "upload everything on my mind to youtube" practice is sorta annoying: doesn't make him a prolific artist so much as a prolific uploader.
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 3 June 2010 11:03 (thirteen years ago) link
i don't think those things are mutually exclusive...
― ianmaxwell, Thursday, 3 June 2010 11:21 (thirteen years ago) link
like, there's definitely an aesthetic that's around b that comes in no small part from watching him grind hard on youtube.
― ianmaxwell, Thursday, 3 June 2010 11:23 (thirteen years ago) link
watching him grind hard on youtube
hmm maybe there really is a pretty ricky connection?

the thing that's funny to me is that, say, if this guy was on rhymesayers (and frankly I don't think he's near as good as P.O.S., who had kinda weird noisyish beats and a unique style), even mentioning him would make you goon non grata on the swag thread...
and, to me, his BEST stuff is actually the stuff that's closest to a pretty established backpacker format
i almost think he does all the bitches and hoes stuff just to make it "okay" to like him, like cover the dat nigga delmar rules a little bit, he seems like an emo dude at heart
also...a kat stacks diss track? that's just undignified, esp since she prolly doesn't even know who he is.
― m@tt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 3 June 2010 15:01 (thirteen years ago) link
to me, he's sort of like a really really talented high school basketball player
he's got lots of raw ability and talent but his game is a fucking mess and he needs to focus and actually realize it's HARD to be great
for every lebron or KG there's a sebastian telfair or felipe lopez ya know? he needs to choose
but he's almost ridiculously well-targeted for a certain stripe of internet rap-slash-indie rock fan....like the human meme in the flesh
― m@tt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 3 June 2010 15:04 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah the WOW HE HAS A TRENDING TOPIC thing was funny because like has there ever been a more meme-ready rapper?

yeah some kids pretended (ostensibly) to be fans and requested an interview for their youtube channel or whatever and gave a normal interview for like a minute and then all of a sudden without any warning while both we're sitting down the kid giving the interview jsut starting swinging with both fists at Brandon's face, B stood up to I guess try to defend himself and caught one right in the lip. the kid who threw the little hail storm of punches immediately walked straight to the door, completely unobstructed. no one in the room did shit as B was clearly seeing stars
it was fucked up

i don't know what's worse that that type of behavior is seen as a viable way to punk someone on film or that it's now apparently ok to hang with a rapper and not have any sense at all to at least react to a fight
― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:53 (thirteen years ago) link

by the way, on an unrelated note i'd just like to make sure everyone here knows that "based" music was not actually started by Lil B and was a post-hyphy movement propagated by a few other clicks from the Bay other than the Pack, like Team Knoc, that sorta fizzled out. there was another one but their name is escaping me right now

very clever rev, considering that 'based' is originally slang for freebase addicts that was co-opted by these rappers, so if that guy is cooking up cocaine to smoke then yeah good job
