aw I like the godawful Kate Bush cover. But maybe only because I really really like the synth sound on the string hook bit. None of the few of their own songs I've heard have done much for me, though.

Hippocrates or wat!! (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 2 June 2010 19:07 (sixteen years ago)

not sure how much staying power this will have but so far this really sounds like my album of the summer

xp - didn't partic care for the KB cover but in any case I wouldn't call it very representative of this guy's own stuff

best new music on p4k surprisingly - good for him

super limited clear LP edition still at a bargain price, ending today!

you should save it for at least a decade so when this band becomes legendary you can really cash in and buy yourself a mansion

Warmest Chord is a new British record label run by folks from Rough Trade and Make Mine. The label places a great deal of emphasis on design and packaging, and every release will come with a limited edition screenprint, as well as a digital mixtape created by the band whose music is on the release. The artist who designed the release’s screenprint will also revamp the label’s logo with every new release.

The first release on Warmest Chord is Evertide, a new EP from the recently BNM’ed lo-fi pop project Wild Nothing. Up above, you can download one of the three tracks from Evertide, which is available now in a ridiculously limited edition of 75 and also as a digital album. (You can stream another track on the label’s Bandcamp page.)

Franz Vesolt designed the two-in-one phosphorescent/glow-in-the-dark screenprint packaging, and every record will come numbered, labeled, and stamped. We’ve got the tracklist below.

Evertide:

01 Your Rabbit Feet
02 Golden Haze
03 Take Me In

the classy thing to do would have been to post that before it sold out

five months pass...

Probably my fav band of the past 3 months of the year, I actually don't like some of the singing and some of the lyrics - but it works as a whole. Their albums so far have been really consistent.

John Lennon, Sunday, 19 December 2010 05:39 (fifteen years ago)

The ep is marvellous - I played the LP a lot but it pales next to Golden Haze.

the pinefox, Sunday, 19 December 2010 15:56 (fifteen years ago)

never heard of these dudes, listening to their myspace, they really channel marr like few others have

in my world of Hmong ppl (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 19 December 2010 18:17 (fifteen years ago)

Dig this for vibe more than individual songs. PF otm about the EP >> LP

Gukbe, Sunday, 19 December 2010 18:17 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i'm pretty much in agreement with the above. the album sounds great but most of it doesn't stick with me as much as the singles/EP

"Chinatown" is really amazing.

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

I really like them.

ENBB, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 00:08 (fifteen years ago)

Saw them the other week - very weak performance, absolutely no enthusiasm (& yeah I realize the dream/shoegaze-esque formatting, but come on and tap your foot at the least). Love their last album's artwork tho, really one of my favorites from that year.

kelpolaris, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 00:48 (fifteen years ago)

That "performance" sounds perfect!

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 00:58 (fifteen years ago)

ha, well i was pretty conscious of the archetypal shoegazer provisions for a "concert" but these guys have just far too melodic working material to just stand around and insist "this is all about the music, man". i GET IT with mbv and such, but in their cases it really was both essential to their methods and allure, whereas these dudes i felt where just doing it because they knew their predecessors did. slowdive/ride/swirlies did plenty of rocking out on stage, and had as equally mellow songs.

kelpolaris, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 03:03 (fifteen years ago)

Swirlies didn't go nuts when I saw them, but I was distracted by the amazing songs so my memory is fuzzy.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 03:14 (fifteen years ago)

The ep is marvellous - I played the LP a lot but it pales next to Golden Haze.

agreed. The EP is just fucking awesome. Love the LP too.

I saw them recently and really liked it, my only complaint was that several songs were cut in half! (stopped verses short of the end for some reason - every song was like 1:45 long, weird)

Holy shit.

Has anyone heard "A Dancing Shell"? New EP comes out tomorrow.

Un-fucking-believable. I almost thought it was the wrong band. What does it sound like to me? Scritti Politti, Human League, Pet Shop Boys, Simple Minds, AR Kane, Style Council, hints of acid house, and probably a lot of even more obvious stuff I'll talk with my therapist about when I get back next week.

fields of salmon, Monday, 13 May 2013 19:44 (thirteen years ago)

Thanks for the tip. I didnt know a new release was coming up... Nocturne was one of my favs last year

Treeship, Monday, 13 May 2013 19:47 (thirteen years ago)

i was listening to it last night, it definitely raised my eyebrows. i need to listen to it again (and again)

your holiness, we have an official energy drink (Z S), Monday, 13 May 2013 19:47 (thirteen years ago)

these guys were surprisingly good when i saw them back in feb (in the hottest room ever). the sarah-isms come out way way more live than on record, oddly

peel hat-trick narrows (electricsound), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:57 (thirteen years ago)

Saw them last fall, like Sept or Oct and completely disagree. Their llive set emphasized the simultaneous muscularity of the sound and boredom of the vocals. Sarah/c86 I associate with thin production.. This sound was big.

fields of salmon, Monday, 13 May 2013 23:50 (thirteen years ago)

Hard times .

fields of salmon, Monday, 13 May 2013 23:52 (thirteen years ago)

it had very little to do with the bigness or otherwise of the sound. melodically and instrumentally there was a lot of the wake in what they were doing, orchids too

peel hat-trick narrows (electricsound), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:03 (thirteen years ago)

Yes, there's a big influence, but what I'm saying is that they're doing something much bigger and more important. And when they play live it's more modern than that thin sounding indie.

fields of salmon, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:11 (thirteen years ago)

"data world" is the jam

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 01:01 (thirteen years ago)

Wow, I was getting pretty hammered last night.

Anyway, just woke up to the full EP. This is a record that confounds and delights. It's got a lot to do with Bowie also, I think it sounds like Low.

Trying to arrange a 12" copy from my local record shop but the guy hasn't got back to me yet.

fields of salmon, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 13:17 (thirteen years ago)

This guy has clearly lost his fucking mind. There's one song on here that sounds like Blur.

fields of salmon, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 13:19 (thirteen years ago)

God I love this.

fields of salmon, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 13:19 (thirteen years ago)

Ha, I was right. EP ends with Eno/Manzanera noodling. What. the. fuck.

fields of salmon, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 13:33 (thirteen years ago)

I hope this arrives in the mail soon... the last album is so pretty.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 13:35 (thirteen years ago)

enjoying this new "shallow water" song

this guy is still my favorite Unremarkable Indie Pop act going

ciderpress, Sunday, 12 August 2018 21:50 (seven years ago)

I still have a lot of time for Nocturne and the Empty Estate EP. The last album had some great moments too, although was a bit uneven on the whole. I can't get into Gemini much.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Sunday, 12 August 2018 21:53 (seven years ago)

Nocturne is great

Abomination Street (Ross), Sunday, 12 August 2018 21:57 (seven years ago)

I adore the golden haze ep

Trϵϵship, Sunday, 12 August 2018 21:58 (seven years ago)

Life of Pause ended up being my favorite of his, and the new tracks are super promising.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 13 August 2018 03:23 (seven years ago)

yeah "letting go" is real good too and "partners in motion" has a nice groove

ciderpress, Monday, 13 August 2018 03:27 (seven years ago)

When the mid 80s were over, I really missed the guitar sound in "Partners in Motion" (and in places on the Tornado Wallace album from last year) and I'm overjoyed it's finally okay to make a guitar sound like that again—because it wasn't for a very long time, unless you were recording elevator music.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 13 August 2018 03:31 (seven years ago)

its just chorus and reverb i think

ciderpress, Monday, 13 August 2018 03:44 (seven years ago)

There's something really crystalline and compressed about it beyond chorus.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 13 August 2018 03:47 (seven years ago)

sounds like they've been having a good listen to Songs from the Big Chair

com rad erry red flag (f. hazel), Monday, 13 August 2018 03:55 (seven years ago)

there's still a few songs left in that chair

ciderpress, Monday, 13 August 2018 03:57 (seven years ago)

I'd assumed these were all leading up to an album, but cool! It comes out on the 31st!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 13 August 2018 04:47 (seven years ago)

i like that cover art, though i'll always enjoy the life of pause one for looking to me like he's sitting inside a set from a Myst game

ciderpress, Monday, 13 August 2018 05:28 (seven years ago)

Yeah, I like that cover art too... would have made a great vinyl sleeve circa 1983-1984.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Monday, 13 August 2018 13:30 (seven years ago)

jorge elbrecht produced this new one

calstars, Monday, 13 August 2018 13:36 (seven years ago)

xp according to photo on the Bandcamp page, the shape on the front is a transparent window.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 13 August 2018 15:01 (seven years ago)

Every time I listen to the Empty Estate EP, I find myself wishing he'd expanded that to a full length.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Monday, 13 August 2018 17:58 (seven years ago)

It is a full length what the hell are you talking about

fields of salmon, Friday, 24 August 2018 01:53 (seven years ago)

When the mid 80s were over, I really missed the guitar sound in "Partners in Motion" (and in places on the Tornado Wallace album from last year) and I'm overjoyed it's finally okay to make a guitar sound like that again

This is probably why I am really feeling this new album

It's an EP, not an LP - I would have thought that was apparent.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Sunday, 2 September 2018 08:45 (seven years ago)

Sounds like the new one is going to be right up my street!

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Sunday, 2 September 2018 08:47 (seven years ago)

really enjoying this so far. it feels like he took lessons from Life Of Pause (which i wasn't super into and he, from interviews, doesn't sound like he quite was either) and just applies those sophistipop tendencies to his usual soundscapey popcraft.

austinb, Monday, 3 September 2018 01:39 (seven years ago)

one month passes...

The new one is basically Nocturne II, but the songwriting isn't anywhere near as consistent in terms of quality and while the production on Nocturne helped his vocals to blend in with the music unobtrusively, here I can't take my mind off the fact that Tatum is a weak singer.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 11 October 2018 20:24 (seven years ago)

this one hasn't clicked with me yet, I ended up loving the last one after multiple listens though
