An MIA/Wiley Twitter beef would honestly be the best thing of all time.

hirschberg's pretty infamous for these kinds of takedowns by now right? seems like celebs would avoid her like the plague.

wtf is up with that twitter? isnt she like 35?
― kumar the bavarian, Thursday, 27 May 2010 16:09 (fourteen years ago) link
has mia really been called out that much for her idiocy? most of the media reaction has been unthinking "ooh controversial" which is exactly what she wants, i doubt she's used to someone cutting through the BS. i know hirschberg did a takedown of courtney love, who else?
xp yeah early 30s i think

total bullshit to give out somebody's phone number in response to getting press you didn't like imo
if you don't want people to write what they think about it, stay out of the music biz imo, I may be mr. whiny baby about politics & stuff but you don't hear me complaining about bad reviews, that's kids' stuff imo

Feels like MIA's been told she's an Important Artist so often she's lost sight of what made her good in the first place.
Her music is obviously great but this interview looks to be pretty rough for her. It's hard to be a convincing revolutionary when you're engaged to the son of the Seagram owner.

The NYT article is kinda hilarious:
Unity holds no allure for Maya — she thrives on conflict, real or imagined. “I kind of want to be an outsider,” she said, eating a truffle-flavored French fry.

What Maya wants is nearly impossible to achieve: she wants to balance outrageous political statements with a luxe lifestyle; to be supersuccessful yet remain controversial; for style to merge with substance. “If you want to be huge, you have to give up a lot,” Michelle Jubelirer, Maya’s longtime lawyer, told me. “Maya vacillates between wanting to be huge and maintaining her artistic integrity. That’s her dilemma.”

you don't hear me complaining about bad reviews
goes beyond bad review, more like her LIFE gets a bad review
but yes the phone # thing is so juvenile
and the NYT article is hilarious

What Maya wants is nearly impossible to achieve: she wants to balance outrageous political statements with a luxe lifestyle;
this makes no sense - not only is it possible, it's been done a million times before.
love ya MIA don't ever change. I, for one, have zero problems with political posturing (however "hypocritical") and provocateurism from pop icons.

Maya feels that Gaga is not original, that she mostly borrows from the Abba playbook, and she gets annoyed when Gaga is compared to Madonna. “You can’t really say that Gaga is culturally a change,” Maya said. “Madonna was truly unique.” Gavras nodded. “And Madonna was pretty,” he said. “Pop stars should be pretty.”
i'm not a fan of gaga but this kind of hat0rade is getting pretty tired

NYT comment box poster OTM:
From this 9 page article, she comes off as a walking talking Che t-shirt, a mangled mix of confused politics, pop-hop and a blend of cheap fashion accessories. Her gross ignorance of the Sri Lankan conflict and outright support of a known terrorist organization is unforgivable. This has become such a boring and repetitive affair. Another rich and extravagant pop star who munches on truffle-filled french fries, while sitting in posh Brentwood mansion, espousing grade school level geo-political ideas while praising war and violence in the name of 'justice'. This is the prototypical Che Guevarra t-shirt syndrome. But at least her music is somewhat danceable.
