i can't deal with boosie's voice

The Reverend, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:00 (sixteen years ago)

that's the whole selling point!

i am willing to bet that this falls directly along the pac/biggie fault line

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:02 (sixteen years ago)

who's pac and who's biggie in that equation?

i saw a necromancer at the buffalo wild wings in west st. paul (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:21 (sixteen years ago)

i f/w boosie > gucci but boosie >>>>>>>> gucci is silly

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:25 (sixteen years ago)

i should say that the number of ">"'s i put in that was totally arbitrary and is not a scientific measurement

i saw a necromancer at the buffalo wild wings in west st. paul (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

boosie is pac & gucci is biggie -- stylistically i think they break in the same sort of manner

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:29 (sixteen years ago)

i've made this comparison before though

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:30 (sixteen years ago)

i always think of it as like, if someone said "sooooooooo much better" xp

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:31 (sixteen years ago)

ah yeah i guess i didn't put much though into it.

weird i like biggie was more than pac, but boosie way better than gucci

i saw a necromancer at the buffalo wild wings in west st. paul (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:32 (sixteen years ago)

ya i would maybe flip that analogy, based on delivery at least cause biggie & boosie are so much more emphatic. you probably have some good reasoning though, and i haven't listened to much tupac.

also boosie, biggie; biggie, boosie

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:36 (sixteen years ago)

quite the opposite here

The Reverend, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:40 (sixteen years ago)

who the hell was more emphatic than pac?

The Reverend, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:40 (sixteen years ago)

outside of maybe DMC, no one

upper mississippi sh@kedown, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:44 (sixteen years ago)

this is me btw

m@tt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:44 (sixteen years ago)

i'll grant u dmc

The Reverend, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:45 (sixteen years ago)

obv this is a bit reductive but

pac & boosie (esp boosie of the past 2 years or so) rap from the heart in a real emotional manner about some real emotional shit, might make time for raps about flossing but everything really circles back to the guttural pain in my life type rap

gucci & biggie (excepting some obvious biggie tracks) rap about kingpin shit in a way that's flashy and dazzles you with wordplay/internal rhyming/imagery etc

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:45 (sixteen years ago)

that is a bit reductive

The Reverend, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:46 (sixteen years ago)

i know

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:47 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, i don't know, maybe emphatic isn't it. more like i feel they've got more dynamic, rounder deliveries. hard to explain, and also hard to prove to a tupac fan :P

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:49 (sixteen years ago)

rounder?

upper mississippi sh@key mo (The Reverend), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:55 (sixteen years ago)

i'm going to go listen to some tupac to make sure i'm not just making this up, but like, gucci's general enunciation and delivery is pretty uniform, whereas boosie stretches words out and raps louder, more comfortable or adventurous with his vocal chords. like half the pleasure is just hearing his voice. i feel similarly about biggie.

jordan's analogy is more concrete and not maybe just my imagination, still feel like there's something here though.

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:05 (sixteen years ago)

my flows are pleasantly plump...KELLY OSBOURNE

m@tt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:05 (sixteen years ago)

pac does all that too tho. and i would definitely think of biggie's delivery as "more uniform" (tho obviously less so that gucci, who kind of makes a point of it) than pac's

upper mississippi sh@key mo (The Reverend), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:09 (sixteen years ago)

jordan's analogy makes way more sense

upper mississippi sh@key mo (The Reverend), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:10 (sixteen years ago)

on a side note, wiz khalifa was born in north dakota.

upper mississippi sh@key mo (The Reverend), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:11 (sixteen years ago)

ok listening to tupac now and i definitely stand by what i said. it's got more to do with what type of rapper they are than some overreaching similarity dividing them from the rest of rap, and yeah gucci is definitely the worst of the lot in that regard (although i prefer him to pac)

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:31 (sixteen years ago)

woah 4 realz?? that's crazy

m@tt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:32 (sixteen years ago)

xp i can't even parse that

upper mississippi sh@key mo (The Reverend), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

whatever, i think if you feel that

pac does all that too tho. and i would definitely think of biggie's delivery as "more uniform"

that's the opposite of how i feel and what i'm trying to express and it's just a matter of *perception* or whatever

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:37 (sixteen years ago)

no really, i don't understand what your previous post was trying to say

upper mississippi sh@key mo (The Reverend), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:38 (sixteen years ago)

oh, just that i feel like these are broader categories i could fit a bunch of (maybe all) rappers in (those who have more straightforward delivery/vocalization and those who dont) rather than something unique to boosie & biggie/gucci & pac. and also that while i agree with you that gucci has the most uniform and least danymic delivery, i like him better than tupac.

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Monday, 24 May 2010 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

ah okay, thx for clarification :)

so Rick Ross has been doing some interesting shit that I feel like is really similar to what (PARTLY) propelled Jay-Z to his current status as indie fandom's favorite stadium rapper by bringing in fashion/style/cultural influences from the vanguard of culture BUT he's actually rapping BETTER now than ever, rather than worse than ever, and also he's doing within a hip-hop framework rather than pop...like when Jay reached into the drake/kid cudi "hit songs by rappers that aren't rap songs" formula on BP3

kinda interesting, also curious that it doesn't seem to be making much noise (granted it's only been a couple songs and he had the misfortune of naming his first foray into this new style after a gaudy, way over the top Robb Report watch brand Audemars Piguet rather than the ultra-hip designers he's been name-checking lately)

also his new outfits are totally lol

or maybe none of that is true i dont know

i guess "on the next one" is hip-hop more than pop and is arguably his most "avant" single/video from that group

yeah j0rdan & i have discussed that pac=boosie biggie=gucci theory before, it makes sense in a reductive way -- i think pac>biggie but gucci>boosie tho

its like why GROCERY BAG and not saddam? (deej), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 00:54 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i think the analogy makes sense but i definitely don't think there's any correlation between people who like Boosie more also liking Pac more etc. (for me it's Boosie/Biggie).

every night i tell myself i am the custos, i am the wind. (some dude), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 01:02 (sixteen years ago)
