man "Fist Family" is some continuous pummeling action

bug holocaust (sleeve), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:25 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah no kidding. The last track is a killer and so epic.

van smack, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:28 (sixteen years ago)

that, "Plain of Jars" -- which is my current favorite

van smack, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:28 (sixteen years ago)

It almost sounds like a Velvet Underground song.

van smack, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:30 (sixteen years ago)

loving the jazzy breaks at the end of "Serrated Edges".

bug holocaust (sleeve), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:36 (sixteen years ago)

press release said US dates are booked, but I haven't seen any (and there aren't any on the Drag City site)

Looks they are also playing Flywheel in Easthampton, MA on September 6th

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 23 May 2010 06:25 (sixteen years ago)

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 23 May 2010 06:47 (sixteen years ago)

Man Oh Man does this record ever deliver.

due to complete memory failure i only got to this in time to see the second half. it cleansed my head.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 12:59 (sixteen years ago)

So mad I will miss the NYC date.

99 anna hay-uff jussa woan' do (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 16:33 (sixteen years ago)

great pics as always, krakow!

yeah, this fuckin' ruled - nearest thing i cld compare it to was keith moon sitting in w/ crazy horse or something... loved how HEAVY it was

altho' i was a bit bummed out by the pretty sparse attendance, the lack of jostling and chattering really let me get deep fried in the music - and i was only woken from my reverie by david k33nan shouting "unbelievable" behind me.

this youtube clip doesn't really do em justice, but still

stirmonster, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 20:25 (sixteen years ago)

corsano looks like a 14 year old next to Bishop, haha

tylerw, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 20:37 (sixteen years ago)

really hope I get to see these guys soon

my only complaint about this album is that it is not a double album.

bug holocaust (sleeve), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 20:49 (sixteen years ago)

Hoping there's tickets left for Cardiff tomorrow night. Hope I can find someone to go with me.

nate woolls, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 21:00 (sixteen years ago)

Agreed. It's too short!

Picking up the vinyl tomorrow - my local shop now has it in stock. Can't wait.

Like the photos, Krakow!

Duke, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 21:35 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, great pics!

tylerw, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

So beautiful. Seeing these fellows in two days time at Brighton's shittest venue. Dammit, I am up for this thing.

Vision Creation Mansun (NickB), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 22:32 (sixteen years ago)

Finally got this today. On 3rd listen already and fucking love it.

My very first reaction was: this is like Haino/Tatsuya's "New Rap"! (which is, naturally, a Good Thing). It is, in some ways, but it's also more than that, of course (e.g. the fine closer).

And yeah, where's the download code or whatever?! I'll have to dl this elsewhere for out and about.

Duke, Wednesday, 2 June 2010 22:05 (sixteen years ago)

Bought it off amazon MP3 last night. Listening now for the first time. Damn.

Yes! Yes! Hammerheads! (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 3 June 2010 21:20 (sixteen years ago)

It's a fine thing.

!... fist family...!

Yes! Yes! Hammerheads! (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 3 June 2010 21:38 (sixteen years ago)

Serrated Edges and Plain Of Jars are the most Sun City Girls-like on here. What Corsano is doing on Plains And Jars is classic Charlie Gocher (RIP).

Yes! Yes! Hammerheads! (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 3 June 2010 21:58 (sixteen years ago)

Listened to this today.. loving it.

fyi:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rangda
Rangda is the demon queen of the leyaks in Bali, according to traditional Balinese mythology. Terrifying to behold, the child-eating Rangda leads an army of evil witches against the leader of the forces of good - Barong.

ian, Thursday, 3 June 2010 22:33 (sixteen years ago)

Just walked back in through the door after seeing these people. They don't hold back live! Corsano was particularly impressive.

Vision Creation Mansun (NickB), Thursday, 3 June 2010 22:41 (sixteen years ago)

― nate woolls, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 21:00 (2 days ago)

Did you go? It banged hard imo... I love how with this venue there are always ppl walking past the windows behind where the bands play and peering in with a 'what the christ is happening in there' look

No I didn't due to a few reasons - working late, wife couldn't get the baby to sleep, no-one to go with. I did think about walking over later but by the time I was ready it was half 9 and I didn't think it was worth it. Gutted though.

nate woolls, Friday, 4 June 2010 08:56 (sixteen years ago)

There's also an old SCG track called 'My Dinner With Rangda'. And I THINK she is one of the faces shown on the back cover of Sumatran Electric Chair.

Yes! Yes! Hammerheads! (Jon Lewis), Friday, 4 June 2010 15:37 (sixteen years ago)

The same week I got this record I checked out a DVD from the library I work at that was a transfer from an old VHS called "Bali: Isle of Temples" and it talked about Rangda.
Also some nice footage of the monkey chant, which is even more impressive visually than it is sonically. Also has some nice folk singing about the sea and rice farming.
It's actually a beautiful film.

Trip Maker, Friday, 4 June 2010 15:50 (sixteen years ago)
