After repeat listens, I continue to think the song is A+ material but the vocals drag it down to B-grade territory.

Hey, I didn't do anything in this thread except talk about the new song. The lame joeks were unsolicited, I don't ask for that shit or take kindly to it in response. And I couldn't give two shits if you like me or not.

I will say, though, you were on fire in that Herbert thread. Really funny shit, even though you and most people took it entirely too seriously, considering the entire thread was a joke.

I liked Freur back in the day and picked up the first Underworld album, only to be deeply disappointed. Never looked back.

But these songs - "Scribble" and especially the live version - wow! What else in their catalog sounds like that live version? The deep "bom bom bom" synths in the latter brings to mind one of my all-time favorite albums from Rain Tree Crow.

I must reassess my attitude towards this band entirely.

yeah I know that like almost everyone on Earth disagrees with me and I do think that the STITI songs work well live (in fact, randomly going to one of their shows in 96 was what originally made me start investigating them more) but the album doesn't do it for me

TBH, for quite some time I thought Meat Beat Manifesto was an American industrial band. That's what the name sounded like to me.

And speaking of electronic duos, don't forget the greatest of them all: Yello! (Not British, though.) You could even say they were predecessors of Underworld's 90s style with their combination of rhythmic not-quite-singing, melancholy synths and absurdist lyrics.

Alright, I've come around to the vocals on "Scribble" -- it's fantastic through and through. Still prefer not to see Hyde's fish-eye lense'd mug while he's driving around and mouthing the worlds.

Verdict: song = C, video = D.

Is that verdict for the radio edit that runs less than half the length of the full track or is that verdict for the version Tong played where he talked over the peak of the track then faded the end?
