is the oneohtrix album anything like "rifts"? the description makes it sound pretty different.

lots of stuff like rifts but also stuff that almost sounds like fever ray:

Ooh nice!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Wednesday, 12 May 2010 02:51 (sixteen years ago)

Fridge Tracks.

Yeah, seconded. On red vinyl as well.

massimo - hello dirty

triffic album

nakhchivan, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 19:53 (fifteen years ago)

admittedly i was reminded of it because my laptop's fan is being weird, jumping up and down frequencies and it reminded me of one of the tracks on here

but this album is srsly lol

nakhchivan, Thursday, 2 December 2010 03:35 (fifteen years ago)

sheer hellish miasma just got released on vinyl for the first time! landmark album for me. really excited for this.

original bgm, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 21:08 (fifteen years ago)

and I gotta disagree with the notion that the typical idiom drumm works in is ambient music. dude has serious range and I would say, if anything, his ambient stuff is atypical.

original bgm, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 21:12 (fifteen years ago)

have to admit to not being quite sold on Edtions Mego recent "chillwave" direction, but the Cindytalk vinyl reissue has totally regained my confidence. beautiful, chilling stuff

missingNO, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 02:22 (fifteen years ago)

I hope Fennesz' Instrument Ep gets a repress, shit is expensive! would be cool to have Hotel Paral.lel on vinyl as well

speaking of Fennesz, did anyone check out those Fenno'berg Live in japan vinyls?

missingNO, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 04:43 (fifteen years ago)

second fennoberg album is all time

nakhtar donetsk (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 04:45 (fifteen years ago)

seriously, those two Cindytalk albums are some of the best music on Mego. hypnotic, emotional noise. the recent split w/ Robert Hampson is pretty smart as well, all wind-clattered sheet metal and organic drones

missingNO, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 08:07 (fifteen years ago)

second fennoberg album is all time

seriously im sure ive posted itt about it but this is one of the best releases they ever did

slightly disappointed in the bj nilsen release (esp considering the tape he released on ash int'l is astoundingly good) but im still really interested in the thymolphthalein release next week. has anyone heard this yet?

srsly

dioufy (nakhchivan), Friday, 10 December 2010 07:16 (fifteen years ago)

:-D

re kevin drumm his album w/ daniel menche (mego 88) has been my soundtrack to the uk election aftermath

not mego but menche has a tape out on tapeworm called 'raw fall' that i think youd really vibe - mostly unprocessed field recordings of waterfalls & its powerful and mesmerizing. he also has a related lp out called 'kataract' thats on editions mego thats more processed and 'constructed' but i think 'raw fall' is superior

Lamp, Friday, 10 December 2010 07:45 (fifteen years ago)

That track "Viennese Tragedy" is so-called because it was recorded live at this swanky jazz club in Vienna where Fenn O'Berg were booked for some reason. About 10 people showed up.

ban this sick stunt (anagram), Friday, 10 December 2010 09:53 (fifteen years ago)

ha I just bumped that Tapeworm thread before reading this one. yeah that menche tape is deep. never heard the second Fenno'berg but I like the first one a lot -- it's next on my list

missingNO, Friday, 10 December 2010 10:01 (fifteen years ago)

so nobody else feeling the Cindytalk record? Up Here In The Clouds is probably my fav album this year

missingNO, Monday, 20 December 2010 08:35 (fifteen years ago)

another great Mego thing this year is the Hecker 12" he did for a Comme des Garcon show. really sick rhythmic noise loops, kinda a cross between early Boyd Rice and Profan Records, w/ a spacious digital static piece on the flip

fuck reissues with extra tracks LAZY LAZY attempt to make money and thoughtless tactless dozy fuckwit way to piss off those of us who already have the originals. no way to run a label. spesh if yr own releases consist of notable "ennio sample through a filter" and several hours of uninspired filler.

love a lot of the editions mego stuff i've heard over the last few years. would love to have a copy of the new dome box set.

scott seward, Friday, 14 October 2011 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

but if i read the euro conversion properly the dome box would cost a yank $166 + shipping? not gonna happen.

scott seward, Friday, 14 October 2011 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

listening to the new mark mcguire record ('get lost') on editions mego. it's a little too mellow and new-agey for me to be honest. it might make good yoga music, though.

some of the old pita records are good, also the first & especially second fennoberg

nakhchivan, Friday, 14 October 2011 18:15 (fourteen years ago)

well, i'll rep for some o those "rehberg & bauer"s, which still hold up - i actually LIKE them, but everything in his own name seems to me devoid of ingenuity & sub-bruce gilbert "my first zoom sampletrack" exercises (although i might hazard a guess they're max/msp supercollider or what have you) obvious systems & methods, & not at all transportative, revelatory or moving (even in a cold, paranoid machine type of way). it's only my take. don't matter any.

iglu ferrignu, Friday, 14 October 2011 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

Already mentioned this on some noise thread but the new Peterlicker album is excellent. This was Rehberg's first group after he moved to Vienna (he was 21) and they have now reformed

In addition to being handsome and French, Schaeffer (as I understand it) helped pioneer the highly exact science of making bumping, clubby jams out of steam engine samples. In other words, the Oneohtrix Point Never dude probably likes him a lot, so you’re fucking nobody if you don’t too. The second record Recollection GRM has announced so far is by Guy Reibel, who, for all intents and purposes is the same guy as Pierre Schaeffer, except with a much much shorter Wikipedia page.

• Pierre Schaeffer pre-order: http://editionsmego.com/release/REGRM+001
• Other Guy pre-order: http://editionsmego.com/release/REGRM+002

that Guy Reibel release is the one to get btw, it is insanely contemporary

Oh man two more GRM releases! I really liked the Schaeffer, the Reibel a little less, but I think I'll be buying all of these indiscriminately.

Those in the Bexhill-on-Sea area would be well advised to make their way to the De La Warr Pavilion tomorrow for what is being touted as "the largest live assemblage of the Editions Mego aesthetic to date". Strangely though, Pita himself is not playing.

That looks like a really good day but I'm too broke to go and have other stuff that I've got to do. Excellent choice of venue, hope they get a good turnout. Are you going?

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Friday, 10 May 2013 14:08 (thirteen years ago)

No, I don't live locally.

my father will guide me up the stairs to bed (anagram), Friday, 10 May 2013 14:10 (thirteen years ago)

I might try to go, seeing if I can rally London/Brighton people...

Neil S, Friday, 10 May 2013 14:15 (thirteen years ago)

If I can take his name in vain, Brighton ilxor Chewshabadoo was vaguely interested in going. Give him a shout on the Brighton thread maybe?

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Friday, 10 May 2013 14:19 (thirteen years ago)

bbbut that would involve actually meeting another ILXor in person!

Neil S, Friday, 10 May 2013 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

True, but he could actually pass for a normal person.
