Realllllly don't get the "abrasive" line on "xxxo." I'm not sure it's hit material, just hooks-wise or whatever (I also don't think she really gives a shit) but sonically it's not more jarring or irritating than half the stuff on the radio right now.

also the Rump Shaker thing is way more than "all I wanna do is," it's "all I wanna do is VERB VERB VERB and a VERB VERB! blah VERB your VERB!"

haha dude christ. Daniel already typed both choruses out, it's not like the words "all i wanna do" are the only thing they share in common, it's practically the same chorus with a couple words/sounds swapped out.

I dunno I guess its cuz the phrase is stretched over the beat differently (and the song is also a much slower bpm, no?) than the Wreckx-n-Effects track that it just never popped out at me. Rump Shaker blurs together with like half a dozen other 90s pop rap hits for me (like N 2 Deep and shit like that)

no diggity is better. but it's true that "rump shaker" reached "u can't touch this" levels of ubiquity in socal in the early 90s. i heard that song a bazillion times in middle school. without even trying to hear it.

Also, if you go to http://neetrecordings.com/blog/ the version of XXXO streaming is apparently the original Blaqstarr produced one. The version released as a single on iTunes etc. has production from Blaqstarr and Rusko and sounds pretty different. Not sure how I feel about the solo Blaqstarr take on it, but you can't find it anywhere else.

personally i was just shooting the breeze abt rump shaker and bringing up three year old rap writer beefs. i don't like XXXO so i don't have much else to talk about.

the deej position on "paper planes" is oddly common & always seems so hilarious to me, like ppl don't like an artist but then having a hit seems to validate the artist for some reason so they have to undermine the validation in some way. as if disliking the artist isn't enough, you have to show that even a hit record doesn't demonstrate any importance "oh it's just the clash". from a rap writer it's esp. odd.

one more thing u could say about the "rump shaker" ref in "paper planes" is that it probably attracted kanye, timbaland, t.i. & jay-z, since rap is pretty sensitive to iterations and refs like that. "culture worldmind" is a bad phrase but something like that obviously exists in hip hop. so it's kind of interesting to have something specific, more than merely a chick saying swagger in a cadence that seemed cool, that may have drawn them to an iteration of their own.

ha, i can't actually hear the similarity to "rump shaker" at all. Having previously been familiar with the song and re-listening to it specifically because of this thread.

i think i like the original blaqstarr production way better, but both are still pretty dope
