sorry to be the bearer of bad news :-(

original bgm, Monday, 10 May 2010 01:21 (sixteen years ago)

hahaha, it's alright. still love 'em

ksh, Monday, 10 May 2010 01:42 (sixteen years ago)

Just heard the new Nevermore. Mmm. "Emptiness Unobstructed" goes straight into my best-songs-of-the-year candidate list.

glenn mcdonald, Monday, 10 May 2010 18:19 (sixteen years ago)

Really in love w/ the opening track on the new Ludicra. I love how the singer shifts from black metal "screaming" to regular singing.

According to an e-mail we received this morning, the Twitter bug and ensuing 0 followers/0 following fiasco was inadvertently started by a Turkish fan of heavy metal band Accept. When this young man tweeted “Accept pwnz,” he found that the user @pwnz was suddenly following him.

ksh, Monday, 10 May 2010 19:13 (sixteen years ago)

Tee-hee. Surprise attack, coming from the back.

Thijs, Monday, 10 May 2010 20:09 (sixteen years ago)

Really enjoying that new Hour of 13 album btw, Dio-era Sabbath with Ozzy vocals and some nice Lifesonesque riffage, excellent stuff.

Thijs, Monday, 10 May 2010 20:17 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, the last album was solid and slept-on, imo. excited for the new one.

original bgm, Monday, 10 May 2010 20:42 (sixteen years ago)

It tops the debut easily. Too bad I haven't been able to check Adrien's Decibel piece on them yet, still haven't received the previous issue :(

Thijs, Monday, 10 May 2010 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I was amazed at how strong the Hour of 13 album turned out to be.

On a different note, this is too awesome for words. Trve Kvlt Svrf: http://heavyrocks.blogg.no/1273518217_charlie_varg_vikernes.html

Dang, I wanted to do a surf 7" of Carcass covers.

Sweet Sister Raistlin (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 11 May 2010 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

picked up Monstrosity's "Spiritual Apocalypse". good stuff, different than I was expecting. kinda reminds me of Behemoth with the "blackened" style stripped out and more traditional death vocals.

Sherman Helmsley Teabag (Cattle Grind), Thursday, 13 May 2010 02:44 (sixteen years ago)

Has anyone else heard the new Castevet album? More Brooklyn black metal, but this one has some very cool dips into Fugazi-style hardcore.

A. Begrand, Thursday, 13 May 2010 02:51 (sixteen years ago)

wow, that's an interesting mix.

Sherman Helmsley Teabag (Cattle Grind), Thursday, 13 May 2010 02:53 (sixteen years ago)

Got it in the mail but haven't heard it yet; was too busy ranting about Limp Bizkit.

Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Thursday, 13 May 2010 03:05 (sixteen years ago)

I want to hear the Castevet but theres an indie castevet going about too, confusing. Everytime i see the thread on vlv i think its about the new york bm band and its not.

this is trollbait but I see through this stuff so y'all can quit trying to get me to be a hater. my hater days are over! people can play whatever kind of music they want and it's all ok by me, I'll just be over here with a Grave Miasma album.

so i guess there's a gorguts/krallice/portal/bloody panda show happening down the street from me in a couple weeks? i want to go but it also sounds incredibly exhausting.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 13 May 2010 16:38 (sixteen years ago)

Thats my kind of exhausting!

wow, it's cheap

my baby's got the bans (ksh), Thursday, 13 May 2010 16:41 (sixteen years ago)

seeing & really being able to enjoy four bands in a row is difficult for me but that's one hell of a bill. a couple of days ago I revisited gorguts' underrated imo from wisdom to hate -- what a fucking incredible band. portal will be super interesting and bloody panda great too.

Has anyone heard the new Howl record on Relapse? Saw it for $8.99 yesterday, didn't know anything about it.

my baby's got the bans (ksh), Thursday, 13 May 2010 17:31 (sixteen years ago)

cmon, you have to go see gorguts!!

Recently downloaded the beep-less promo from Relapse, but I haven't given it a spin yet. Heard encouraging things though. I'll update after I listen.

The new Howl's pretty decent. The expected early Mastodon/early HoF influences are there (more bludgeoningly heavy than refined), but there's a little Melvins influence in there as well.

A. Begrand, Thursday, 13 May 2010 18:32 (sixteen years ago)

that sounds pretty good

call all destroyer, Thursday, 13 May 2010 18:32 (sixteen years ago)

mmm, i should pick it up! thanks A

my baby's got the bans (ksh), Thursday, 13 May 2010 18:37 (sixteen years ago)

yeah the howl record is decent. kinda samey, but i've only listened to it twice so far.

that melvins album is really weird, but really freaking good too. some of their older stuff just puts me to sleep because it sounds way too plodding, but this album is great. the first song had me laughing quite a bit.

so i've just read a month's worth of this thread and have finally caught up. bands i need to act soon on are: october file, cathedral, ludicra, triptykon, armored saint, vasaeleth, immolation, nachtmystium.

i'm already loving shining, daughters, DEP, rotting christ & deftones.

am i missing anything?

borntohula, Thursday, 13 May 2010 18:47 (sixteen years ago)

I think the Ihsahn record is well worth hearing, one of my favorites of the year (just behind Ludicra and maybe Triptykon).

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 13 May 2010 18:49 (sixteen years ago)

i gave it a shot but was turned off by how clean some of it sounded. i'll give it a few more listens.

has anyone heard monolith by in memoriam? i keep hearing good things about it, and it has placed rather high on the RYM charts. i don't base all of my musical choices by their charts, but frequent the site to see if i'm missing out on anything.

borntohula, Thursday, 13 May 2010 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

Cannibal Corpse closing their US leg tonight, and I will be there for the second time. should be fun. I pulled out the Bleeding again it's surprisingly better than I remembered it.

Sherman Helmsley Teabag (Cattle Grind), Saturday, 15 May 2010 13:59 (sixteen years ago)

Joey Belladonna is back in Anthrax, apparently. Until tomorrow, when they announce that John Bush is back once more.

Actually, I'm eagerly awaiting the inevitable Neil Turbin reunion.

I totally love the Belladonna era of Anthrax, but he was such a unique vocalist. Like his voice was poppy, but not in the way you typically associate with metal (ie, power metal vocalists). I thought he best fit on stuff like Spreading the Disease, although at times he sounded out of place with the more aggressive stuff on Among the Living (which mind you is still awesome).

Sherman Helmsley Teabag (Cattle Grind), Saturday, 15 May 2010 21:11 (sixteen years ago)

he was awful

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 15 May 2010 21:21 (sixteen years ago)

I'm partial to Belladonna as well, I come from that era. Bush never seemed right, he was always "the dude from Armored Saint" in my mind. Of course that's sort of because he was given some pretty mediocre new material to sing on.

A. Begrand, Sunday, 16 May 2010 02:43 (sixteen years ago)

I've only seen Anthrax once (on the tour they did in 1990 with Public Enemy, Primus and Young Black Teenagers) and Belladonna was still in the band, but I think he left right after that. I thought his stage presence was all wrong for them, even if his voice occasionally worked. (I can still take some cuts from Persistence of Time, but every other Belladonna-era album has one or two very low peaks and a bunch of Marianas-trench-deep valleys)
