I'm now being told it was the girl from the Duke Spirit, which makes more sense of what I saw and heard onstage.

They're playing Brixton Academy on September 7th.

Bocken Social Scene, Monday, 25 June 2007 11:16 (eighteen years ago)

Who, the Duke Spirit or the JAMC?

Masonic Boom, Monday, 25 June 2007 11:16 (eighteen years ago)

JAMC. Must start posting more coherently.

To make up for it, here's a link (that will inevitably not work..)

Bocken Social Scene, Monday, 25 June 2007 11:24 (eighteen years ago)

£25! Plus £5 service charge! Ouch!

But I suppose I'm a grownup now. I better suck up.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 25 June 2007 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

LOL oh well I'd rather have seen them at Brixton Academy than at silly seated festival hall, although it was good. Maybe I can take Mrs Poo to this and see them again. She wasn't in the mood to go out on Friday.

Colonel Poo, Monday, 25 June 2007 11:32 (eighteen years ago)

I thought about buying seated upstairs tickets. But then I snapped out of it!

The best thing is, this is like 10 minutes from my house! Hurrah!

Masonic Boom, Monday, 25 June 2007 11:33 (eighteen years ago)

We went to see the Ramones, at Brixton Academy, back in.

Upstairs seated was all that was left. Better than nothing, obv, for that one. Their last UK gig ever.

Mark G, Monday, 25 June 2007 11:36 (eighteen years ago)

But no. Apart from bands who are going to split up and/or die, never do that.

Mark G, Monday, 25 June 2007 11:36 (eighteen years ago)

I had seated tickets for the Stooges, that was weird. But they were complimentary so I can't complain. Seated behind Kevin Sheilds, even weirder.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 25 June 2007 11:38 (eighteen years ago)

think the last twice i've seen them were both brixton academy gigs - rollercoaster tour and acoustic(!) support for cocteau twins.

koogs, Monday, 25 June 2007 12:49 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

"All Things Must Pass" is classic JAMC. This is one of those bands who'll crank out passable-to-good-to-great shit as long as they feel like it.

wanko ergo sum, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 00:36 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

who else is going to see them at Brixton Academy this Friday? do shows there usually end before the closing of the tube?

alex in montreal, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:23 (eighteen years ago)

they probably will, yes (kicking out time = 11ish, tube = 12 ish)

am still in two minds. ticket prices high. nobody to go with.

koogs, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going! I am meeting Dream Machine people beforehand in a pub.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

i was wrong about tube, forgot the victoria line closes early these days:

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/5508.aspx

From Brixton
22:11 northbound all stations to Walthamstow Central
22:21 northbound all stations to Seven Sisters

plenty of slow buses though. take one to stockwell and get northern line from there is quickest. overground trains available to victoria too, every 20 minutes.

koogs, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

(i also thought it was saturday. oh um)

koogs, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

the prices are high, but i figured i'm in london for the weekend, might as well catch some shows (and they were pretty good at the summercase festival, fwiw). anything good going on saturday night?

if you see a lonesome vietnamese dude, come say hi!

x-post: thanks koogs!

alex in montreal, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

May I just add that Richard Hawley's version of "Some Candy Talking" is very lovely indeed?

bham, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

The Victoria line will be closing early Mondays to Thursdays from 23 July to 22 November to allow line upgrade works.

It should* be running until late on Friday night.

*Who knows what state the network will be in when the strike finishes.

Bocken Social Scene, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

I was thinking of going to this, although I did see them at Meltdown a couple of months ago. But I'm going to be in Birmingham (at a Python Conference, no less) so I can't.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

Mark G, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

Give us a proper UK tour ya lazy bams!

onimo, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

From The Times review of the RFH gig in June:

Jim screwed up the beginning of Snakedriver, and they had to start Just Like Honey three times before he located the correct key and entry point for the vocal at the same time.

It's like they've never been away :)

onimo, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:58 (eighteen years ago)

It's like they never been to rehearsal, more like!

Mark G, Thursday, 6 September 2007 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

Free tickets (*$7/each service charge) through goldstarevents.com for tomorrow at the Wiltern in LA.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 06:33 (eighteen years ago)

Far Gone And Out
Catchfire
Sidewalking
Snakedriver
Dead End Kids
Happy When It Rains
Some Candy Talking

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 08:06 (eighteen years ago)

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 08:26 (eighteen years ago)

Total "Vegetable Man"!

and I totally called Miranda Lee Richards to my friends even though I was up in the rafters. I totally chatted her up in Amoeba once but was too chicken to ask for digits.

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 09:40 (eighteen years ago)

I got to take 4 friends for free* because of your link, thanks Spencer! What an awesome show it was! After surprising me with "Vegetable Man", I was hoping they'd do "Surfin USA"!

Carlos 2, Thursday, 25 October 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

PJ Miller, Saturday, 5 January 2008 11:55 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, hadn't heard about that at all! Tracklist? I hope it includes "Don't You Want Somebody to Love".

Spencer Chow, Saturday, 5 January 2008 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

I think Amazon had it for less than that.

When I saw this thread had been bumped I was hoping the tracklist had leaked :(

Colonel Poo, Monday, 7 January 2008 11:26 (eighteen years ago)

Asda online has it as £33.97 free delivery.

Mark G, Monday, 7 January 2008 11:55 (eighteen years ago)

Still nothing on rhino.com about that box set... is it stil on?

StanM, Saturday, 26 January 2008 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

Still on apparently, but only three weeks from the release date it's astonishing that no track listing can be found.

deedeedeextrovert, Sunday, 27 January 2008 04:18 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

17 March is about one month from now. Still nothing on the Rhino site, still no tracklists anywhere. Not happening or delayed?

StanM, Thursday, 14 February 2008 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, and Spin CDs upped their expected price to £49.99

StanM, Thursday, 14 February 2008 14:13 (eighteen years ago)

StanM, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Mark G, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

Oddly enough, I have bought three of four of those CDs, and from Amazon no less, but hadn't heard of this. EERIE.
