dragon rmx and triumph/wrong galaxy are awesome. I never picked up "chasm"

dmr, Wednesday, 5 May 2010 00:10 (sixteen years ago)

Russom dropping 'chasm' last week was amazing.

The Serge Santiago mix of "Simple Things" is one of my favorite things DFA have ever put out.

that song is ok, "I Will Come Back" I totally love, though

dmr, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 21:15 (sixteen years ago)

Really loving "I Know, I Hear"- does anyone know what the sample at the start of the track is from? It sounds really familiar but I can't place it ("prophet five, factory programs, January 1982, file one")

Thanks for the heads up on that Holy Ghost EP. It's nice to hear DFA-style dance tracks that don't beat you over the head with genre touchstones and hipster shoutouts but are still fun to listen to.

two weeks pass...

I know "I Will Come Back" was done for an ad tie-in, but hearing it in a radio commercial was still weird

Album is surely gonna turn up sometime soon?

Number None, Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:13 (fifteen years ago)

i have a pretty short attn span and i'm abt 20% as excited as i would have been had they released it like a 6 months ago

plax (ico), Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

That's a little harsh - I think they were kinda fucked up by Jerry Fuchs's death which put everything back.

Matt DC, Sunday, 11 July 2010 16:45 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i guess :-(

that Michoacan record. look, i like unconventional singers, but really if this is the absolute best you can do vocally then you really should be getting someone else in to do the singing part.

that tbd twelve is good though!

jed_, Saturday, 24 July 2010 19:15 (fifteen years ago)

The Shit Robot album arrived in the post today. The basslines are so gloopy it's unreal.

The track with Alexis Taylor is better than anything on the last Hot Chip LP pretty much. And I really like that album.

Dwight Yorke, Thursday, 29 July 2010 16:56 (fifteen years ago)

love the peter gordon 12" (well, i got myself the aac's) - never knew that a collaboration with arthur russell would be on the flip. it's a riot.

willem, Saturday, 7 August 2010 21:52 (fifteen years ago)

Got that Peter Gordon 12" two days ago, it is so great.

Also, it'd be interesting to do DFA POX after 4 and a half years of thread inactivity. Don't know what I'd choose.

I'm banishing you to a time warp from which you will never return (EDB), Friday, 20 August 2010 19:50 (fifteen years ago)

i think a lot would be fairly recent stuff, esp from last summer which was such a great dfa moment imo.

curious to hear that Bruno Pronsato record

dmr, Friday, 3 September 2010 16:38 (fifteen years ago)

Is that the NDF thing? If so, it's a strange one (but very pretty). Very quiet, with a beat that sounds like a brush on a snare drum; sort of a hushed shuffle. There are some very indie sad-sack vocals on the top about running into a girl he used to know in the street or something like that. It goes on for ten minutes but doesn't build necessarily. There is an 18 minute Ricardo Villalobos remix as the b-side.

She Got the Shakes, Friday, 3 September 2010 17:40 (fifteen years ago)

hmm. yes that's the one I meant. doesn't sound so great.

dmr, Friday, 3 September 2010 18:15 (fifteen years ago)

from your description I mean. I haven't heard it.

dmr, Friday, 3 September 2010 18:15 (fifteen years ago)

I like the NDF 12" but I agree it's confusing, as with a good deal of Pronsato's work it doesn't sit comfortably in a dancefloor set. The other guy in NDF is called Sergio and did that great Birds and Souls 12" on Spectral earlier this year.

mmmm, Friday, 3 September 2010 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

I didn't mean to undersell it so badly, it really is pretty and unique. But by no means would it belong anywhere near a dancefloor.

The other element which I forgot about when I originally described it is that it has these very echo-y field recording style samples that almost sound like they were taped in a locker room or a warehouse or something.

It's all very spare. Even though it sounds nothing like it, it reminded me of that Pantha du Prince song with Panda Bear singing on it.

She Got the Shakes, Friday, 3 September 2010 19:02 (fifteen years ago)

i like the NDF a lot

bruno pronsato's "the make up/the break up" was the best thing to happen to electronic music last year

outback bumfuc (electricsound), Monday, 13 September 2010 01:45 (fifteen years ago)

Ugh when is it going to leak?? DFA took the album stream down a while back for some reason.

skip, Monday, 13 September 2010 02:03 (fifteen years ago)

the Shit Robot leaked many moons ago. there are only a couple good songs on it. the best on is the song Nancy sings on. someone please give her a solo LP on dfa. she deserves it.

brotherlovesdub, Monday, 13 September 2010 03:22 (fifteen years ago)

I show it added to iTunes on July 20 so it must have leaked a day or so before then.

brotherlovesdub, Monday, 13 September 2010 03:23 (fifteen years ago)

maybe it was a rip of the stream. it's not in the usual places so it's probably 160 kbps or something. I loved it while streaming at work but who knows.
