I think they're alright. Novelty wears off after repeated exposure. Marnie/Deerhoof/Ponytail comparisons are otm, plus I guess they seem to me like the next step in indie interpolations of modern R+B, following from the Dirty Projectors, The XX, Hot Chip, Discovery etc.
― David (davek_00), Sunday, 2 May 2010 20:56 (sixteen years ago)
"the ting tings it's ok to like" still the most otm statement about this band
― uptown churl, Sunday, 2 May 2010 21:10 (sixteen years ago)
so what puts them in the "ok to like" category & the Ting Tings in the "not ok to like" category
― ksh, Sunday, 2 May 2010 21:27 (sixteen years ago)
not nme hype band
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 2 May 2010 21:29 (sixteen years ago)
maybe because this doesn't sound like the ting tings

ting tings vocals, for one, are way more obnoxious (ke$ha-like, almost)
― the gay guy from vampire weekend (Tape Store), Sunday, 2 May 2010 21:34 (sixteen years ago)
feelin' like ".xls" is another ILX meme I'm unaware of. care to explain?

so so so so so so so true about vocals xp

Bummer that we don't get a 'proper' version of Ring Ring on the album.
I'm with plax on them not being the antithesis of chillwave or all about the 'in yr face'ness of it all. Beach Girls and Ring Ring etc. have a pretty summertime chill vibe in the vocals. I forget who described it as like...bike riding music, but that seems pretty apt to my ears.
― Alex in Montreal, Sunday, 2 May 2010 22:32 (sixteen years ago)
(I mean, not A/B Machines or Treats clearly but some of their stuff has a pretty chill vibe to it.)
― Alex in Montreal, Sunday, 2 May 2010 22:33 (sixteen years ago)

this is otm. i like how juicy and ripe this band is. it's almost to an absurd extent, like how far they go for your satisfaction and enjoyment.
― waka khan (samosa gibreel), Sunday, 2 May 2010 22:41 (sixteen years ago)
Just saw them open for Yeasayer.
YOWZA. Basically. Louder than on record...new tracks possibly that have massive guitar lines and Alexis just sort of screaming (daintily) into the microphone. She's pure energy, running and shaking and getting in yr face as an audience but kind of coquettish too. By the time their set was over I had sweat through my shirt.

They're pretty unbearable to me, imo.
― kelpolaris, Monday, 3 May 2010 06:12 (sixteen years ago)
they just sound really shticky to me. unlike Jesus + Mary Chain, or even Raveonettes, their combo sounds totally unnecessary. i'd love to hear Sleigh Bells minus distortion.
― Mordy, Monday, 3 May 2010 16:58 (sixteen years ago)
eh i think that the fact that the distortion is like lossy low kbps instead of overdriven amps is kinda novel enough to be worth a mention.
― plax (ico), Monday, 3 May 2010 18:12 (sixteen years ago)
Just listening to the P4K best new track now, it is going to sound dated in about 6 months. That doesn't mean they won't make a fun summer album though.

I see no reason a band simulating what my laptop speakers sound like to be worthy of this much praise.

Maybe not.
Twitter agrees: it's out tomorrow, and it hasn't leaked yet. Awesome.

If nothing else, pretty impressive that a heavily hyped band can avoid the leak this long. Is it only out digitally tomorrow? That may explain why.

The 'Clean' version is on itunes for 6 bucks. but from what i can hear nothing is censored so maybe it was all clean anyway. good stuff thus far, although none of the new stuff beats the original six demos.

I like this game. Best New Music 8.5 -- I'll be damned if they rate it higher than The National, their fav. indie pet band of the last 3 years or so.
