― tylerw, Saturday, 24 April 2010 20:10 (sixteen years ago)
Loving "Brigitte's Trip (White Light/White Jazz)"
Can't wait to pick this up next week.
― a streaker named desire (van smack), Friday, 14 May 2010 01:46 (sixteen years ago)
was late on psycic psummer but that would've been a guaranteed top 20 of 2009, at least. bummed they're not hitting up more of NE during their summer tour.
― Bastards of Young Dro, Friday, 14 May 2010 04:24 (sixteen years ago)
liking pure moods a lot -- this is the first i've heard them, i think.
― tylerw, Friday, 14 May 2010 13:13 (sixteen years ago)
sounds a LOT like Oneida. This is not a complaint.
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 14 May 2010 14:33 (sixteen years ago)
Also got onto this album pretty late but really dig it - the last track is a thing of beauty, like Jackie Mittoo produced by Conny Plank or uh something
― xylyl syzygy (a passing spacecadet), Friday, 14 May 2010 14:52 (sixteen years ago)
oops, sorry, "this album" = Psychic Psummer, didn't even know there was a new one but I am super-excited for that now! thank you ILM
It's a new ep, no?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 14 May 2010 14:54 (sixteen years ago)
yes, 3 songs, about 20 minutes
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 14 May 2010 14:55 (sixteen years ago)
Ah, I thought from the price on Rough Trade it was a cheap LP rather than an expensive EP. And apparently Norman Records have sold out of them despite them only arriving yesterday. Time to shop around...
― xylyl syzygy (a passing spacecadet), Friday, 14 May 2010 15:02 (sixteen years ago)
love CAVE
― Tape Store, Friday, 14 May 2010 17:12 (sixteen years ago)

saw these guys last night in Denver -- hollly shit, they were good. would highly recommend them to anyone. kind of worried their records are going to start sounding limp in comparison!
― tylerw, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 22:00 (fifteen years ago)
Gonna see them at pitchfork lol
― Trip Maker, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 22:43 (fifteen years ago)
These guys are pretty directly up my alley, loving the Pure Moods EP right now.
― he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 18:12 (fifteen years ago)
They were definitely a nice surprise at Pitchfork.
― maciej recognizing trill, Tuesday, 20 July 2010 18:36 (fifteen years ago)
pure moods still killing it -- definitely one of my favorite things from this year. live set over yonder: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/CAVE/Live_at_WFMU_on_Talks_Cheap_Aug_16_2010

― the tune is space, Tuesday, 19 October 2010 22:29 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i pretty much wanted to follow them on tour after seeing them last summer.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 19 October 2010 22:30 (fifteen years ago)
new one! NEVERENDLESS. Just got the promo from Drag City -- more of the same, but that is exactly what i want. Some long jamzzz.
― tylerw, Thursday, 7 July 2011 14:57 (fourteen years ago)
great title
― mizzell, Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:02 (fourteen years ago)
already "this is the best" is the perfect distillation of what these guys do. 14 minutes of unrelenting awesomeness.
― tylerw, Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:03 (fourteen years ago)
Think they are planning to go to Australia next year. I'm surprise there are already promos for the new one, don't think it's coming out til the fall?
― Trip Maker, Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:51 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, i was surprised too. comes out sept. 20.
― tylerw, Thursday, 7 July 2011 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

ooh i like the sound of this
― thee o shi (electricsound), Thursday, 7 July 2011 23:08 (fourteen years ago)
my little review of the new one here: http://ow.ly/6bToa really loving it, annoyed that they seem to have tour dates scheduled in every US city except mine.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 19:50 (fourteen years ago)
Try living in Mid Missouri (oh, but they are def playing here)Their last show in town was in the basement DIY space and it fucking COOKED.
― Trip Maker, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 19:51 (fourteen years ago)
Oh and your writeup is sweet. OTM.
― Trip Maker, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 19:53 (fourteen years ago)
Their last show in town was in the basement DIY space and it fucking COOKED.is this their thing, playing nontraditional venues? the denver show they played was a totally random head shop/record store/art space that i'd never heard of before and haven't heard of since. god, it was so good.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 19:55 (fourteen years ago)
It is sometimes their thing, not always. They've all got a lot of experience with touring and playing rock shows. Sometimes a non-traditional space is just more attractive.Sometimes, getting paid is.
― Trip Maker, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 19:58 (fourteen years ago)
they may have been paid in weed at the show i saw.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 19:59 (fourteen years ago)
This is awesomehttp://vimeo.com/29128356
― Trip Maker, Thursday, 22 September 2011 18:44 (fourteen years ago)
sweet!
― tylerw, Thursday, 22 September 2011 19:10 (fourteen years ago)
is this their thing, playing nontraditional venues?
lol, the record release show for the new albumw as played on a flatbed truck driving down Milwaukee Avenue here in Chicago. Really wanted to go, but wasn't able to do so.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 22 September 2011 19:23 (fourteen years ago)
Check that link I just posted
― Trip Maker, Thursday, 22 September 2011 19:25 (fourteen years ago)
ah, didn't click the link, most videos on vimeo won't play at work
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 22 September 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)
this makes me want to drive up to baltimore to see them.
― skip, Thursday, 22 September 2011 19:33 (fourteen years ago)
as noted upthread, they were pretty godlike for me when i saw 'em last year.
― tylerw, Thursday, 22 September 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)
that video is great -- there are lots of recognizable places, but the parts i like best are the anonymous intersections.
― some lady (La Lechera), Thursday, 22 September 2011 20:50 (fourteen years ago)
saw these dudes last night they were pretty cool
― flopson, Thursday, 22 September 2011 23:27 (fourteen years ago)
they hit up the local npr station today apparentlyhttp://www.wbez.org/episode-segments/2011-10-14/grooving-some-caves-neverendless-jams-93151
― Art Arfons (La Lechera), Friday, 14 October 2011 18:41 (fourteen years ago)
The rhythmic orchestration of the rock band Cave typically unwinds slowly but steadily over lengthy songs. They are often called "roller-rinkin’ rock for the next generation."
Confused about what that phrase means? The band sat down with Eight Forty-Eight to explain what exactly roller-rinkin' rock is and why they are not your typical jammers
― Art Arfons (La Lechera), Friday, 14 October 2011 18:42 (fourteen years ago)
Gonna see them tonight. So stoked.Cooper insists that they are a funk band now. Hafta laugh.
― Trip Maker, Friday, 14 October 2011 21:03 (fourteen years ago)
I'm going tomorrow night, will report back on level of funk.
― Art Arfons (La Lechera), Friday, 14 October 2011 21:43 (fourteen years ago)
annoyed that they seem to have tour dates scheduled in every US city except mine.this, still. jealous you guys are seeing them.
― tylerw, Friday, 14 October 2011 21:59 (fourteen years ago)
Not to rub it in, but I'm gonna get to see them twice on this tour!Which is cool and all, but the fact that I can't you know BE IN THE BAND and actually go on tour still kind of stings.
― Trip Maker, Friday, 14 October 2011 22:04 (fourteen years ago)
crash the stage! "i'm back in the band!!"
― tylerw, Friday, 14 October 2011 22:11 (fourteen years ago)
new album is dope
― diamonddave85, Thursday, 7 November 2013 22:31 (twelve years ago)
Ha. La Lechera, I dj'd that gig in absentia. Cooper just used a bunch of mix tapes i've made for him over the years for the incidental music. i was surprised that dude who used to pretty much only play keys was now pretty much only playing guitar. Two different dudes.
They played in town on Halloween. I got to sing a cover of "Sister Ray" with them at the end of the set. Lots of fun.
― Trip Maker, Monday, 11 November 2013 14:49 (twelve years ago)
that sounds awesome -- where's the youtube?
― tylerw, Monday, 11 November 2013 15:38 (twelve years ago)
I don't even have a photo!I was wearing a pink blouse, blue shades, and a blonde wig.
― Trip Maker, Monday, 11 November 2013 15:46 (twelve years ago)
Ugh that sounds SO FUN!! Did you sing the whole thing?! man that sounds like fun.
All I remember from your mix was Bohannon but it was enjoyable!
― sweat pea (La Lechera), Monday, 11 November 2013 16:44 (twelve years ago)
We didn't play it for twenty minutes. I sang maybe three verses and improvised a "freakout" that climaxed with repetition of the phrase "don't shake me, lucifer." We were going to cover a Roky Erickson song but current events changed our original plan.
― Trip Maker, Monday, 11 November 2013 16:48 (twelve years ago)
'silver headband' on the new one is so sick. not many can evoke the neu! vibe without resorting to a generic motorik beat. agree with tyler on the rest of it pulling serious fusion moves.
― the zaprudest film xxx (haitch), Tuesday, 17 December 2013 14:33 (twelve years ago)
they're playing a reunion(?) show on new years
― scoff walker (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 13 December 2017 16:57 (eight years ago)
recent interview with cooper crain said there'd be a new Cave album out this year ... but I haven't heard anything else. Cave drummer is playing with Nathan Bowles now ... http://www.nyctaper.com/2017/10/nathan-bowles-trio-september-8-2017-three-lobed-wxdu-hopscotch-afternoon-jamboree-raleigh-nc/
― tylerw, Wednesday, 13 December 2017 17:13 (eight years ago)
an erstwhile ilxor is DJing!
i am thinking about goingwondered what happened to their drummer -- who's playing if it's not that guy?
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Wednesday, 13 December 2017 17:34 (eight years ago)
haha yeah i just noticed trip maker in this thread!
i had heard the reason cave hadn't been playing shows was cuz the drummer had moved. but your guess is as good as mine whether or not he'll be playing new years. i hope he is, though
― scoff walker (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 13 December 2017 18:01 (eight years ago)
ha yeah, i hope that they're making a long distance relationship work — Cave w/o that drummer seems a little pointless.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 13 December 2017 18:02 (eight years ago)
i thought BBs were CAVE w/o that drummer;)
i am just wondering which local drummer would be his repacement -- an unknown? one of the many excellent known drummers in Chicago?
