"genre influence across many globes"

yo gotti or notti (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 April 2010 20:51 (sixteen years ago)

do we even have entryist pop any more? she ought to be commended for such a leftfield move

collaboration with mika vainio and kk null awaits

nakhchivan, Friday, 23 April 2010 20:57 (sixteen years ago)

she does Santigold better than Santigold does

Uh... Santigold >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MIA.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 23 April 2010 20:58 (sixteen years ago)

ugh son

The Reverend, Friday, 23 April 2010 21:02 (sixteen years ago)

i would buy an album of MIA punk songs

imma sb (samosa gibreel), Friday, 23 April 2010 21:04 (sixteen years ago)

Its modernist punk. It makes me interested. Sounds good.

Hinklepicker, Friday, 23 April 2010 21:50 (sixteen years ago)

Just sounds like bad Atari Teenage Riot. Nothing really new going on here.

Jamie_ATP, Friday, 23 April 2010 21:55 (sixteen years ago)

I love the beat but those vocals sound really half-assed.

adamj, Friday, 23 April 2010 22:34 (sixteen years ago)

Except MIA hasn't done 'bad atari teenage riot' before. Its pop music. Did you expect some sort of Stockhausen experiment? What is new etc, etc...

Hinklepicker, Friday, 23 April 2010 22:38 (sixteen years ago)

she had this album called kala that pulled from some great honkies: richman, pixies, clash
She made them her own and made them parts of something great

thought she'd do suicide justice. she did not.

Fellini.Kuti, Friday, 23 April 2010 23:10 (sixteen years ago)

Shit. And here I was just thinking she went and made a song.

So can we get this straight: Is it 'Bad Atari Teenage Riot' or 'Bad Suicide'. Is someone going to say sounds like 'Bad M.I.A?' Prefer these kinds of influences than Beach #**!@$ Boys.

Hinklepicker, Friday, 23 April 2010 23:29 (sixteen years ago)

word the fuck up

it ain't trickin if yo gotti (The Reverend), Saturday, 24 April 2010 00:10 (sixteen years ago)

We don't like this? Cause it sounds pretty darn good to me!!!

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 24 April 2010 02:29 (sixteen years ago)

It is kind of zzzz but I love the Suicide sample a lot. Just wish there were more, like, melodies and tones and stuff and not just noise.

piping hot dish and a cup of chat (Stevie D), Saturday, 24 April 2010 02:51 (sixteen years ago)

It's the best thing I have heard all day- ahead of my kids persistent whining, the sound of pork frying and a hippy, gypsy Dylan at a park down the road. More melody than all three too.
Don't listen to them M.I.A.
Keep up the good work.

Hinklepicker, Saturday, 24 April 2010 04:44 (sixteen years ago)

i like it fine. but i also like xtrmntr, which is really the first thing it makes me think of.

women are a bunch of dudes (tipsy mothra), Saturday, 24 April 2010 05:51 (sixteen years ago)

Daniel, Esq., Saturday, 24 April 2010 07:45 (sixteen years ago)

it ain't trickin if yo gotti (The Reverend), Saturday, 24 April 2010 09:59 (sixteen years ago)

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:00 (sixteen years ago)

it ain't trickin if yo gotti (The Reverend), Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:07 (sixteen years ago)

piping hot dish and a cup of chat (Stevie D), Saturday, 24 April 2010 13:27 (sixteen years ago)

This song is pretty great.

o. nate, Saturday, 24 April 2010 16:39 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah I love this. I also like ATR and XTRMNTR and Suicide though.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Saturday, 24 April 2010 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

i have that santigold disc those MIA discs. never really registered for me. love MIA Santigold, tho, for the beats, hooks and lyrics.

The Reverend, Monday, 26 April 2010 11:34 (sixteen years ago)

Intense. but I liked it

van smack, Monday, 26 April 2010 13:32 (sixteen years ago)

the kind of video senser would have made if they'd had the budget

tbh the music is about on senser's level too

history mayne, Monday, 26 April 2010 13:36 (sixteen years ago)

ah that video just makes that suicide sample even more intense.

borntohula, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:12 (sixteen years ago)

not feeling the video - there's no reason for it to be 9 minutes long ans for all the viscera there's a pointlessness to the entire concept

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 26 April 2010 14:19 (sixteen years ago)

expected her to not do something thats so familiar but the songs ok. bit too chemical bros/prodigy ish though. i expect better from her.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 26 April 2010 14:34 (sixteen years ago)

good video though. and her conceptualism is still there. wonder what the sound of the album will be like.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 26 April 2010 14:34 (sixteen years ago)

sort of reminds of the 'windowlicker' vid with the distended length and american setting albeit with the avant-grotesquerie replaced by inane blackly comic quasipolitical challops

nakhchivan, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:35 (sixteen years ago)

"this video contains content from UMG. it is no longer available in your country."

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 26 April 2010 14:38 (sixteen years ago)

what's the title of the song?

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 26 April 2010 14:39 (sixteen years ago)

"her conceptualism is still there"

what

history mayne, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:39 (sixteen years ago)

there ought always to be room in pop music for syncretists/dilettantes with a sense for the right wtf direction, even if u hate it u gotta have respect for her

malcolm mclaren would have wanted it this way

nakhchivan, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:50 (sixteen years ago)

what a horribly formed song

cozen, Monday, 26 April 2010 14:54 (sixteen years ago)

"what"

i guess youd prefer someone like i dunno, brother ali where everything is 100% accurate/theoretically sound but 100% boring

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 26 April 2010 14:55 (sixteen years ago)

no i just mean... what do you mean by "conceptualism" here?

history mayne, Monday, 26 April 2010 15:01 (sixteen years ago)

hey it's another mia song that would be interesting except for mia's vocals

call all destroyer, Monday, 26 April 2010 15:21 (sixteen years ago)

not sure if anyone follow pitchfork on twitter, but she's tweeting there all day and it's possibly the most annoying thing she's ever done. not really sure what she's trying to accomplish by being so kayne/all-caps/obnoxious, when i've seen and heard interviews where she's a very normal, laid back kind of person.

borntohula, Monday, 26 April 2010 17:08 (sixteen years ago)

ann powers on twitter: "The #MIA vid works as a repositioning tool. Reaffirmng that old skool revolution is her biz even if bright colors and indie cred distract."

pretty sure "biz" isn't used ironically

da croupier, Monday, 26 April 2010 17:13 (sixteen years ago)

generally p retarded tweet

history mayne, Monday, 26 April 2010 17:14 (sixteen years ago)

The Popcast interview was a complete mess and felt uncomfortably voyeuristic. Sampling the album, the thing just feels like a predictable waste of time. If I'm wrong, and she poured herself into these songs, then she's officially run out of ideas. I ducked out at "Does money make you happy? Does money make you love me? Does money kill poverty? Does money solve worry?"
