that Harvey Milk is nothing, my friend saw Steel Pole Bathtub open for Faith No More once and said they played nothing but Sabbath's "Paranoid" for 45 minutes. Only, it wasn't an elongated 45 minute jam...they would just finish the song, then start it over again.

Now for a serious synopsis of last night's Cannibal Corpse show, I'm well aware that CC don't even remotely rank in the top echelon of death metal groups, but I've always liked them just teh same, they were really the first DM act I got into. and live, their material hits another level.

Corpsegrinder is a funny guy as well. He got mad that the crowd didn't yell real loud when he said "This song is the first song off of Vile" because it was the first album he sang on. He also instructed all of teh moshers to slam into anybody who was "tweaking their nipples, sticking their thumb up their butt, or playing with their little dick and balls", although he weirdly made an aside statement about how it wasn't cool to smoke and nobody should do it...which, making such statements on 4/20 is like entering a Bob Marley concert with a D.A.R.E. shirt.

It was a lot of fun. They played mostly everything from every era, though I gotta tell you shouting out song requests is really uncomfortable at CC shows. It's not every day that I yell "ENTRAILS RIPPED FROM A VIRGIN'S CUNT!".

The new 1349 disc is very enjoyable. I can't really say what having Tom Gabriel Fischer produce did or didn't do for their sound, but if you hated their last album because it wasn't black metal enough, you'll probably like this one a lot better. Me, I liked both.

I've enjoyed every one of their shows that I've seen. They always start strong (at the shows I've seen it's either been Assassins or Ghosts of Grace) and then boom boom boom nonstop tunes, and then it's over before you know it. I've never felt that they overstayed their welcome or got boring. Crowd is usually way into it, but I think they played locally so much that people got kind of tired of the routine. One time I saw them headline and Wolves in the Throne Room were the opening band and practically everyone left before Nachtmystium went on. The people who stayed were enthusiastic, though.

I always have more fun at a show when everyone else acts like they want to be there instead of standing around waiting to be impressed. Looking forward to the shows supporting Black Meddle II!! Could be different this time around, though.

Black Meddle II is serious album of the year contender stuff. Perfect combination of evil and catchy, plus you can understand what Judd is saying, which is always nice.

I don't know, I would say Cannibal Corpse rank pretty highly as far as death metal goes...

Blown away by the new Nechochwen album Azimuths to the Otherworld, as seen on Invisible Oranges. If you thought Wardruna was cool, but wished it had metal bits, this may be your album.

Really digging the new Danzig album. Working in a trio (he plays bass as well as sings; Tommy Victor's on guitar and Johnny Kelly's playing drums) suits him. No keyboards, a stripped-down blues/hard rock sound. He's in full-on Elvis mode on "Ju Ju Bone," but there's one song here, "On a Wicked Night," where he sounds uncannily like Ian Astbury from The Cult. I said on Twitter that it's not as good as Danzig, but it's at least as good as Danzig 4, and I'm starting to think it's better. Really a striking return to form.

so, I guess I'm interested in a new danzig album now. stranger things have happened... but that's pretty freakin' strange.

saw cannibal corpse last night, was bummed because I showed up late since 1349 was supposed to be opening & I don't really give a shit about 1349 but they'd been replaced with Diabolic, who I totally fucking love and would have like to have seen

idk but if diabolic has replaced them that's better value for money imo - diabolic are a great band and I'm sorry I missed them

new Decibel is on newsstands -- just grabbed a copy. unfortunately, the record store did not have last year's Converge, so i got Caribou -- a decidedly not metal record

so uh i was super-psyched to buy the new cathedral today, annnnnd.....the first disc is fucked. i only got it to play once in the car (wouldn't even cue on 5 other tries) and there was some fucked up digital noise on every track. disc 2 is fine, and really enjoyable. should i just return/get another copy? scared that one will be damaged too.

Seriously Pitchfork, do you just hate giving metal that much attention? A very deserved 8.4 for the new Alcest, but still won't give it the 'Best New Music' tag.

I guess the better question is, why do I keep visiting that site?

they obviously dont think their readership will be interested in metal.

I guess it just irks me because a lot of bands get a boost from getting the BNM tag anymore, and I'd certainly love to see Alcest get the boost in attention (and just maybe income) instead of another boring hipster band.
