I like it better than the previous ones. Still feels it's too sophisticated and too clever, and perhaps next time they will strike the right balance. In that case they will deliver a classic.

The worst thing about the Rundgren bit is that they're jacking someone else's joke! Why didn't they just record they're own bit like that?
Crap Kraft Dinner remains their best song.
― Raw Patrick, Thursday, 7 February 2008 22:51 (eighteen years ago)
their
bcuz you would have ripped them for biting rundgren
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 7 February 2008 22:52 (eighteen years ago)
New song (or newish, was apparently given out to the first whatever number of people at one of the pre-album concerts) "Too Deep" on iTunes now.
― Telephone thing, Sunday, 23 March 2008 05:44 (eighteen years ago)
Both tracks from that 7" are probably still here.
― energy flash gordon, Monday, 24 March 2008 00:49 (eighteen years ago)
glad 'One Pure Thought' is the next single - best track on the album
― blueski, Thursday, 10 April 2008 17:29 (eighteen years ago)
I kinda really like this band. Not sure what's holding me back from full embrace. The songs are so good, maybe it's the delivery. Maybe they're not fully embracing me!
― Spencer Chow, Thursday, 10 April 2008 17:46 (eighteen years ago)
do like the new album but its def their most commercial/most 80s.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 28 April 2008 18:32 (eighteen years ago)
They covered New Order's "Temptation" at Coachella.
― felicity, Monday, 28 April 2008 19:00 (eighteen years ago)
do we really need a breathy, "sincere" ween? When they sound this good, fuck yeah!

Good clip.

xxxpost
they've been doing that for a while now - they did the same "No Fit State" -> "Temptation" trick a year ago. it's still awesome as hell, though.
― jamescobo, Monday, 28 April 2008 23:03 (eighteen years ago)
I still like their "Crap Kraft Dinner" -> Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere"
― Savannah Smiles, Monday, 28 April 2008 23:31 (eighteen years ago)
Hmm, have gone back to Boy from School tonight for some reason, and now I can't stop listening to it. The programming is pretty brilliant on that track.
Also, I heard them when they were guest dj-ing on some BBC radio thing, and they played some pretty amazing stuff. I wish I had even the slightest clue as to what any of it was. I could sure use me some sweet sweet techno sounds tonight, though...
― dell, Monday, 26 May 2008 00:52 (eighteen years ago)
Amazing how Ready For The Floor has become a proper pop floor filler. Played it last night and people just went mental.
― Matt DC, Monday, 26 May 2008 00:56 (eighteen years ago)
dell ill upload a the to diff versions of them doing 'boy from school' later. they rework that song a lot and the two i have are v. different but great
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 May 2008 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

Anyone else heard the Alexis Taylor album?
― Treblekicker, Monday, 27 October 2008 22:48 (seventeen years ago)
I haven't, but re: hot chip, I love the bit about a minute into "ready for the floor" when the chord changes and it shifts from a "track" to a "song".
― aaron d.g., Tuesday, 28 October 2008 00:02 (seventeen years ago)
holy crap. they have a song w/robert wyatt!

― (jaxon) ( .) ( .) (jaxon), Thursday, 18 December 2008 00:18 (seventeen years ago)
apparently they have a cover of a vampire weekend song sung by peter gabriel also. :-/
the musics really good on their VW cover but not sure about the vocals.
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:11 (seventeen years ago)
not sure about PG's vocals? whaaaaaa
― cutty, Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:24 (seventeen years ago)
Love the Gabriel cover, was really stoked for the Wyatt collab but on first listen it's rather underwhelming and not Wyattesque enough.
― Billy Dods, Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)
The Wyatt collab is zzzzzz
― Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 18 December 2008 22:39 (seventeen years ago)
cutty sent me this, its pretty dope, i had to listen to it a couple times, i think its better than the original
― beyonc'e (max), Friday, 19 December 2008 01:27 (seventeen years ago)
id like their r kelly tribute/pisstake if it had slightly more genuine lyrics and not lines like 'aiming for your loins'.
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Sunday, 21 December 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)
otherwise, the music (kinda like tvotr on blind meets prince) kills me.
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Sunday, 21 December 2008 21:06 (seventeen years ago)
i need a whole album of hot chip and peter gabriel
― cutty, Sunday, 21 December 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)
So I am finally listening to Hot Chip for the first time ever.
― Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 2 April 2009 08:52 (seventeen years ago)
First track on The Warning is fucking horrible. Next three very enjoyable.
made in the dark is better, thought stylus always overrated the warning a bit
"boy from school" is their best song tho
― strøm thurmond (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 2 April 2009 08:57 (seventeen years ago)
"the warning" (the song) is one of their best songs too
Neither are exactly perfect all the way through - The Warning is patchy in the first half and really picks up in the second half and its more delicate moments are gorgeous. Made In The Dark begins awesomely and then they start fannying around with stupid comedy nonsense like The Wrestlers and it falls apart.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 April 2009 09:03 (seventeen years ago)
their delicate moments are always the best, i love the ballads on made in the dark
― strøm thurmond (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 2 April 2009 09:06 (seventeen years ago)
ready for the floor>>>
― Yellow Carded (titchyschneiderMk2), Thursday, 2 April 2009 09:11 (seventeen years ago)
I got both The Warning and MitD for £5 a piece.
What else is worth hearing; early EPs?
― Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 2 April 2009 09:18 (seventeen years ago)
First album, Coming On Strong, is really good. Better than Made In The Dark.
― nate woolls, Thursday, 2 April 2009 09:19 (seventeen years ago)
Their entry in the DJ Kicks series is almost worth hearing for their track 'My Piano', classic old school piano house banger.
― Alan Shearer's illegitimate, he ain't got no coaching certificate (Billy Dods), Thursday, 2 April 2009 09:20 (seventeen years ago)
yeah i love my piano, was hoping the whole of made in the dark would be as good as that
― just sayin, Thursday, 2 April 2009 09:27 (seventeen years ago)
first album is smug duff crud. plus it hung out in my girlfriends cd changer for about 2 years ruining every long car journey in this period. I liked the warning as it seemed theyd risen above the too smart to dance fanboy toss of the first and made a decent sounding album. boy from school had some good remixes. the last one is rubbish though, i also saw them in germany last summer and they were behaving like a bunch of bloody primadonnas because the fat one who hardly sings mic wasnt working
― straightola, Thursday, 2 April 2009 09:35 (seventeen years ago)
What a whingeing bastard.
