i hope the record sounds like that cover ... i actually really liked the last one when it came out, but i haven't listened to it in a long while now. I have listened to You're Living All Over Me instead.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 22:43 (seventeen years ago)
in fact, i may do that RIGHT NOW.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 22:44 (seventeen years ago)
yes yes yes yes yes yes
― 69, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 22:46 (seventeen years ago)
wow that cover is dope
beyond has held up very well
― stank pony (M@tt He1ges0n), Wednesday, 25 March 2009 22:48 (seventeen years ago)
ok i put on Beyond ... yeahhhh it does sound good.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 22:52 (seventeen years ago)
Beyond was a dud for me. By numbers, lacking in tunes.
― paulhw, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 22:53 (seventeen years ago)
dunno, i'll grant you "by the numbers" but I think it's fairly tuneful.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 22:54 (seventeen years ago)
you're living all over me and green mind have been my life lately tbh
amped for this

yeah you will like it if you like living over me
dino jr. is sort of the best depression band, in that sort of teenage way in which depression feels huge and vast and empty yet you don't really have the desire or even ability to express what your feelings even are, it's sort of numb feeling, yet it's very intense, a sort of like a jet engine on nyquil
― stank pony (M@tt He1ges0n), Wednesday, 25 March 2009 23:12 (seventeen years ago)
Good to see they didn't do the typical split until the next greatest hits tour reunion. I loved Beyond when it came out, now I just kind of like it. It beat expectations, and was definitely an improvement over J's solo stuff. Live they were great. I'm looking forward to this.

"straight to the heart" sounds like a really good second-album foo fighters song
― 69, Thursday, 26 March 2009 14:18 (seventeen years ago)
those songs on Beyond were really the first time i was like wow, i think i like Lou Barlow as a songwriter!
― I, Contrarian-Ass Mutha (some dude), Thursday, 26 March 2009 14:20 (seventeen years ago)
can i just say how happy i am at the realization that Sonic Youth, the Meat Puppets and Dino Jr. are all going to be releasing new albums within a 6 week period

i didnt say it's a bad thing.
― Zeno, Thursday, 30 April 2009 18:59 (seventeen years ago)
kinda more curious to hear the stuff that isn't the same; them dropping a cello on the last record etc. his frazzled sounding songs are great. i hear this record is very lou.

this might be the best description of what dino jr represent that i've ever read

Farm has leaked, first impressions?
d/l now
― Bee OK, Friday, 5 June 2009 02:23 (seventeen years ago)
Looking forward to this.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 5 June 2009 02:49 (seventeen years ago)
the new tunes reflect a natural progression into fuzzed-out ballads with gentler melodies.
That sounds suspiciously like the two post-Green Mind albums that I didn't really like so much. Hoping Mascis has perfected the formula since then.
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 30 June 2012 23:07 (thirteen years ago)
slow jams on the last couple have been real nice, i think. & inventive. like with cellos and stuff.
― blossom smulch (schlump), Saturday, 30 June 2012 23:10 (thirteen years ago)
i like this jam. a lot. like the production, too.
if the rest of the record holds up, they'll be 3 for 3.
― dronestreet, Sunday, 1 July 2012 01:18 (thirteen years ago)
not quite as good as farm, i think
but it's a niche i'm unlikely to ever grow tired of hearing

man this album sounds really great, could easily see this becoming my favorite of the reunion albums

right now, this is #2 on my reunion list. (after Beyond)
whole record sounds so great. love the purple swirl vinyl, too.
lou's songs are particular standouts.

Not quite "by far", but yeah I'd rank 'em as Farm > Beyond > this one. Love 'em all, just to varying degrees.

surprised there wasn't more discussion of i bet on sky itt. one of my 2012 favorites. love the relative gentleness and thickets of softened fuzz. maybe now that the reunion novelty's worn off, it's easy to take them for granted. they deserve better. PUT A RING ON IT.
― I have many lovely lacy nightgowns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 17 April 2013 04:54 (thirteen years ago)
yeah it's an awesome album, could very well be my favorite of the reunion LPs. really looking forward to the Dino Jr. tracks poll.

Thanks, this thread. Haven't listened to Dinosaur Jr for probably 20 years, but like Wire, I hadn't heard that they were 'good again'.
Just bought 'Farm' on the strength of 'Beyond', so will see how that goes, but 'Beyond' seemed like probably the most consistent record of theirs I've heard. The old ones had great moments, but a bunch of daft moments too.
Also, kudos to having the Jolly Green Giant on the sleeve for "Farm". Never much liked Sebad'oh, but can't help thinking that his return injected some sort of spark.
