bookmarks are annoying to have at the top of the screen though. i really wish keith or whoever would just code that thing where it loads 100 messages from the last read post and then has "click for next page" afterwards
― a midsummer night's cream (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 21:39 (fourteen years ago) link
you click bookmark on the last post, and then when the thread gets updated, a link appears at the top of the window
http://i43.tinypic.com/1xx9no.png
when you click it, it brings you back to the post you bookmarked and you see subsequent posts and so on -- you never miss anything or have to load massive threads

it's pretty gay that bookmarks show up as original thread titles -- almost makes me want to unbookmark this thread
― goon with the wind (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 21:46 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah, that's really, really confusing -- can't imagine it would be too hard to fix it
― ksh, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 21:53 (fourteen years ago) link
well, not that confusing -- just annoying
"Shutterbug" is great, and good job by Scott Storch on that beat. But is it REALLY that different in style from the Organized Noise stuff? I don't really hear it being this giant leap, it sounds like it's right in line with the music OutKast has been making this last decade. Also, feels a little TOO techno for any Quik nods.
― rennavate, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 22:37 (fourteen years ago) link
Just read your article on Drake, Jord. Great shit, and I agree... I like Drake most as an R&B artist. He writes great melodies and is much more convincing that way. I feel that Thank Me Later is going to be this thing where we're going to have to wade through the rap songs to get to the R&B.
I don't think he's a bad rapper, and I actually like him as a rapper, but this punchline business he fails at.
― rennavate, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 22:40 (fourteen years ago) link
Tray brings up a good point in the comment thread for the article: "While Wayne can say he’s in the building like the audience (bad example, but he did much worse even in his prime) and it’s okay because it’s just a part of his train of thought, not this pseudo-aha moment." I think that's dead-on. Drake's slower, one-note flow (which I like, just SWITCH IT UP ALREADY DAMNIT, who are you, Guru?) and his propensity to be like OH SHIT I JUST DROPPED A BOMB! after he makes a joke is what irks me.
― rennavate, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 22:42 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah tray is right, but also you could take the embarrasing with the bad not just because it was his train of thought, but because that train of thought (on something like DD3 or lil weezyana) often resutled in an embarrasment of riches -- drake's rap has nothing like that
― goon with the wind (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 22:46 (fourteen years ago) link
Yes, definitely, which is the case with other rappers too. Jay'll drop a whack line on the Blueprint ("I bounce back like round ball") and then hit you with four or five dope lines after that.
― rennavate, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 22:47 (fourteen years ago) link
lolz aside, this devin album is predictably fucking awesome
― forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 22:48 (fourteen years ago) link
yup, and for someone who purports to be such a meticulous writer, drake really should be eliminate those not-very-good "glue" lines so to speak

also wfb is in general much more fun to listen to than drake. i'd much rather listen to a garbage-ass weezy verse than a garbage-ass drake verse.

don't get me wrong, I've kinda come around on Trey Songz, but Devin's take on R&B feels so much more real to me.

what's the comparison?
― goon with the wind (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 April 2010 01:02 (fourteen years ago) link
contrast, say Trey's 'Can't Help But Wait' with Devin's 'It's On You'.

Drake being better at R&B than rap is a good knock to use against him but tbh I don't see his brilliance even in that dept., there were like 50 hits last year that were better R&B songs than "Best I Ever Had," and his Songz mimicry as a singer is as transparent and distracting as his Wayne mimicry as a rapper.
― my heart will goon (some dude), Thursday, 8 April 2010 01:33 (fourteen years ago) link
although i will say i haven't heard his song w/ the-dream yet -- i remember when it first leaked it was like a demo or uncomplete and i hate these 'new music cartel' type fucks yoinking unfinished songs out of studio hard drives on principle but lemme know if the actual song is out now
― my heart will goon (some dude), Thursday, 8 April 2010 01:36 (fourteen years ago) link
I'm not hearing the Trey Songs mimicry... never have. Am I missing something?
― rennavate, Thursday, 8 April 2010 01:56 (fourteen years ago) link
well songz is one of the first artists drake ever collaborated with, way back in like... 07 or something. whenever drake had that failed single. so it makes sense that drake would mimic him a bit. like, "best i ever had" could easily be a trey song(z) with barely any altering.
― goon with the wind (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 April 2010 02:03 (fourteen years ago) link
why are you talking about Drake and Trey Songz in the rolling Stupid Fruity...oh wait, right

Yeah, I remember that song. I just never saw the similarities vocally, and I think Drake writes much better (and memorable) melodies.

i still have a hard time believing Trey didn't pop in the booth for the "and i say the same thing every single time" part
― my heart will goon (some dude), Thursday, 8 April 2010 05:19 (fourteen years ago) link
Fair play. To be honest, I probably have heard way less Songz er songs than you guys have... I really only know his big singles.

well i mean, you might also think he's an original and interesting rapper if you'd never listened to much wayne or kanye

so i'm having fun listening to wu massacre. annoying lack of ghostface, who seems to have just grudgingly dropped of a leftover solo track and a few verses, but the production is nice enough, decidedly upbeat throughout. the rza produced track is the most blatanly dilla-aping beat he's ever made (and is very good), and the rest is good but i suppose too familiar to really excite.
