... I don't get it.

ALLAH! *rolls on floor* (HI DERE), Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:13 (sixteen years ago)

The album cover design seems very similar to me.

Plus both are like about 45 minutes long. And totally awesome for it.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:31 (sixteen years ago)

But don't mind me. There are about four artists out there I'm fanatical about and I tend to believe they are all the same person.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:37 (sixteen years ago)

wtf those album covers are nothing alike :|

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Tuesday, 23 March 2010 14:41 (sixteen years ago)

But don't mind me.

re: "Take Me." Really?

queen frostine (Eric H.), Thursday, 25 March 2010 20:00 (sixteen years ago)

Also, the McCartney sample seems like the only really adventurous one out of the lineup.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Thursday, 25 March 2010 20:01 (sixteen years ago)

really?! "Arrow Through Me" is one of my touchstones.

out all day, missed this in my inbox

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 25 March 2010 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

This album is really 80s isn't it? All of these thick modern soul synths, rubbery basslines... I'm not really hearing the organic "throwback to Baduizm" thing people were saying besides "Window Seat"

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 25 March 2010 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

spank rock -_-

Violent (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 25 March 2010 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

She kinda fulfilled the adventure quota ten times over with the last one, no?

Yeah, most of the samples are '79/'80. The album could have come out on 2000 Black (but then Kaidi and Dego etc would have replayed everything).

I'm not really hearing the organic "throwback to Baduizm" thing people were saying besides "Window Seat"

Me neither, and the last song with Muldrow is a very different organic.

Andy K, Thursday, 25 March 2010 22:01 (sixteen years ago)

re: "Take Me." Really?

Yes, really -- slowed a bit.

really?! "Arrow Through Me" is one of my touchstones.

Yes, really -- untouched, more or less. (You can even hear Paul's "Oooooh"s.)

Andy K, Thursday, 25 March 2010 22:03 (sixteen years ago)

And by untouched I mean the basic groove is there. It's not like it's the song note-for-note with Erykah's voice over it.

Andy K, Thursday, 25 March 2010 22:07 (sixteen years ago)

"My Darling Baby" by Wood, Brass & Steel is also used, but it's not on YouTube.

Andy K, Thursday, 25 March 2010 22:16 (sixteen years ago)

This has leaked.

filling the medicare donut hole with the semen of liberal (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 March 2010 22:38 (sixteen years ago)

then she's not gonna release it ;(

Wat ho, goatee'd man? Thy skinnee jenes hath byrn'd my corneyas. (stevie), Thursday, 25 March 2010 22:58 (sixteen years ago)

The one that samples Wings is marvelous.

51ocki (k3vin k.), Thursday, 25 March 2010 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

Mixed emotions DL-ing it, but this is really the only way I'm getting a review in on it.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Friday, 26 March 2010 00:58 (sixteen years ago)

It's streaming on Luisterpaal now.

jam master (jaymc), Friday, 26 March 2010 02:53 (sixteen years ago)

stephen juaquin (The Reverend), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:07 (sixteen years ago)

"Turn Me Away" is supercuet

stephen juaquin (The Reverend), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:20 (sixteen years ago)

^^^

get money

deej khalifa (deej), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:21 (sixteen years ago)

hmmm... the fact that the leaked version of "Turn Me Away" is 4:17, whereas the album version is 5:26 indicates that the leak is a radio edit and therefore it's going to be a single OF WHICH I HEARTILY APPROVE

stephen juaquin (The Reverend), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:23 (sixteen years ago)

get money should be the new otm

stephen juaquin (The Reverend), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:23 (sixteen years ago)

gtm

deej khalifa (deej), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:24 (sixteen years ago)

deej khalifa (deej), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:25 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, same here. this is the smoovest shit

stephen juaquin (The Reverend), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:26 (sixteen years ago)

the badu album this sounds most like (so far at least) is Worldwide Underground! that's the one where she did all these early-80s funk jams before, except on this one they're way more focused

stephen juaquin (The Reverend), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:28 (sixteen years ago)

gone baby, don't be long is beautiful

Violent (J0rdan S.), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:44 (sixteen years ago)

when she starts riffing on biggie lyrics its like me singing in the shower

deej khalifa (deej), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:44 (sixteen years ago)

I notice she does it twice over the course of the album

stephen juaquin (The Reverend), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:46 (sixteen years ago)

what's the other -- i'm reading & not really paying attention to lyrics atm

Violent (J0rdan S.), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:47 (sixteen years ago)

theres gonna be a lotta slow singing and flower bringin if my burglar alarm starts ringin

deej khalifa (deej), Friday, 26 March 2010 06:51 (sixteen years ago)

I think "Turn Me Away" and "Gone Baby, Don't Be Long" are my immediate faves

stephen juaquin (The Reverend), Friday, 26 March 2010 07:03 (sixteen years ago)

gone baby, gone baby, don't be looooong

stephen juaquin (The Reverend), Friday, 26 March 2010 08:25 (sixteen years ago)

there's some great theremin-esque action on this record btw

prob that kaos pad she always is messing with live

Nope, it's a theremin.
