I can't believe I skipped that Garth show; I totally forgot about that.

"Personally, I'd rather get fist-fucked by Ann Coulter than sit through a Dave Matthews concert. But that's just me."

disco stu (disco stu), Saturday, 27 September 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

haha. i bet ann coulter wouldn't even lube up

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Saturday, 27 September 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

That's weird...that guy gives about as many reasons for hating them as you all do.

Allison (Allison), Saturday, 27 September 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
Ok... his voice is like nails on a chalkboard and he is gay

Jordan Bass, Saturday, 18 October 2003 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

come ON, people! the Kill Bill threads are starting to catch up to this one!

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 20 October 2003 05:08 (twenty-two years ago)

No comments on Dave's solo effort? I am saddened (by the solo effort, not the lack of comments).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 20 October 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Now by Queertin Tortillini:
"KILL DAVE, VOL 1"
Starring Uma Thurman as the chick who repeatedly kicks Dave Matthews in his goolies for three hours straight.
Lucy Liu as the chick who repeatedly bashes Dave Matthews in his head with a ball peen hammer. and
David Carradine as the guy who sits on the sidelines in an easy chair and laughs about it.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Monday, 20 October 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Um. I'm sorry I said anything now.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 20 October 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, I'm pretty sure you haven't actually listened to the solo album, don't knock it until you've heard it. It's unlike anything he's done with the band, and maybe you'd like the new sound.

Allison (Allison), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I've heard good reviews of it from people who hate Dave Matthews. Still, I'm doubtful that I will listen to it. .. But I'm also doubtful that I'll listen to the new Cure record or Lou Reed's The Raven anytime soon.... More of a matter of spending time wisely than being closed-minded.

Still, Dave suxor!

As this thread takes fer fucking ever to load, I found myself reading some of the banter toward the top - I think everyone needs to read this thread again, as it's completely hilarious. And it deserves some kind of award - A Pulitzer, A Peabody or two, maybe a Tony or the Nobel Prize for ... uh, guffaws (new category?)

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm really only commenting on "Gravedigger", which does the neat trick of being DMB filtered through the eyes of a high school goth.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

For the love of God why won't it die?!!!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

http://members.aon.at/frankenstein/images/reanimator.jpg
Because it is pumped to the gills on my new formula!

Dr Herbert West (Lord Custos Omicron), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Then it's a good thing the rest of the album sounds nothing like Gravedigger. Put your DMB generalizations aside for a moment and have a listen. You still may not like it, but at least you'll have some sort of backing for your insults.

Allison (Allison), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

B-b-but I still haven't run out of insults for "Gravedigger" yet!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to admire your patience here, Allison. (As for me, taking the time to listen to a Dave Matthews solo album is quite low on my priority list.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Well then, don't stop now, Dan.

Allison (Allison), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

wow is this the longest running thread ever on ILM (Jay-Z vs. Nas aside...?)

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

the Keiji Haino tribute on the DM solo album did come as a big surprise to me, I must say

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

You stinky loveable liar, John. (Oh yeah, how did the rest of the tour go?)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
November bump. It's a new month, there's bound to be new reasons for HATE.

Jay Dee Sah Mon (Kingfish), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I still hate that charleston dance he does.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

No, really there aren't.

(xp See?)

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
Anyone got any xmas goodwill towards Dave?

Dave Matthews Strikes Back, Monday, 1 December 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow. Big thread. Who the fuck is Dave Matthews and why should I hate him?

Nu-Enrique (Enrique), Monday, 1 December 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

You shouldn't.

Allison (Allison), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I think DMB kinda rocks. And he is a nice guy.

fletrejet, Monday, 1 December 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
You guys all suck, you wouldn't know real music if it bit you in the ass. Have you nothing better to do than complain about DMB? Honestly, people. I'm sure he's better than all of you, and you are all retards. I say that and I'm not even a huge fan of Dave, I just know he's better than you retards. By the way, I bet you like crappy music.

jo jo, Sunday, 21 December 2003 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Die.

Allison (Allison), Sunday, 21 December 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree with jojo, i hate people who are such insane-fucking-losers they sit around and complain about how much they hate shit. Fuck you, let's see you create something. At least his stuff sounds different that the other stuff out there, and if you think it is crap, then fine, that's ok, there is different music out there for you. I won't come make a page about how much Ja Rule sucks or Limp Bizkit, Alan Jackson, Three Doors Down, Nine Inch Nails, or whoever you ass hats enjoy listening to. at least he didn't rip someone off like john mayer or countless Korn rip-offs

NolanB, Sunday, 21 December 2003 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Grover was born to sing Wedding Present songs. (super-duper-triple-dog-x-post)

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 21 December 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, did you guys read what the title of this thread was?

oops (Oops), Sunday, 21 December 2003 03:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't think I've ever heard them. Weren't they the band that some of the Friends (TV) were all worked up about some years ago? I remember being amused recently when AOL kept running news items about NYC having it's panties twisted in knots with excitement about a free DMB concert (sponsored by AOL). But I can't hate what I don't know. Maybe there's a force-field in Flatbush that keeps them away.

dlp9001, Sunday, 21 December 2003 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ja Rule, Limp Bizkit, Alan Jackson, Three doors Down, Nine inch Nails..."

Wow. Nolanb has ILX bang to rights. We shoulda never started those
'Ja Rule and Limp Bizkit: post your words of praise for these god-like geniuses' threads. How can we stop advertising our musical tastes so blatantly, so fanboyishly?

pete s, Sunday, 21 December 2003 03:48 (twenty-two years ago)

HaHaHa. yeah i knew they were your favorites, glad someone caught that.

NolanB, Sunday, 21 December 2003 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I won't come make a page about how much Ja Rule sucks or Limp Bizkit, Alan Jackson, Three Doors Down, Nine Inch Nails, or whoever you ass hats enjoy listening to.

Actually, NolanB, if you care to look around our fine little bulletin board, you'll many many pages where people show their love or hate (or both) for just about every musical artist ever. (Take a look here, for instance -- though it's a pretty big page and you may have to scroll down for links to pages about more famous bands.)

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 21 December 2003 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot how insanely long this thread was.

I will mention again that I discovered lately that one of my favorite salsa partners (who is increasingly also a friend) likes Dave Matthews a lot. My last girlfriend, who was also a very good dancer, said favorable things about him. Neither of these people fit the boring yuppie Dave Matthews Band stereotype, not in my judgment anyway.

Maybe ILMers just hate him because enticing women like him.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Sunday, 21 December 2003 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

(Not that ILM is 100% male, but I think we can agree that it is predominantly male.)

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Sunday, 21 December 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

But disproportionately gay...maybe?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 21 December 2003 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

we've been told several times that we're all gay.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 21 December 2003 04:48 (twenty-two years ago)

You may have a point, Michael Daddino. Oh well, bad theory.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Sunday, 21 December 2003 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I don't hate them or anything...like a number of other mainstream rock bands, at best they're merely OK enough to make me sometimes wish they were better.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 21 December 2003 05:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave's band is cool 'cause they can play 10,000 miles an hour. Pure technical virtuosity prowess talent that you can't mass produce. And "Ants Marching" is fucking fantastic. So dig that and forget about his stupid piggy voice. And the fact that his last three albums have been ridiculously shite. He used to be really good!! Promise!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 21 December 2003 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave doesn't sing, he scrodals. Singing from the scrotum.

Jim Reckling (Jim Reckling), Sunday, 21 December 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Because someone I know, who makes fun of everyone and is just really rude, likes them.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 21 December 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Aja, I knew several people like that in high school who liked Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath, but that didn't completely turn me against those groups (though it may have delayed listening to them more).

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Sunday, 21 December 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Just because I said it doesn't mean it's true.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 21 December 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread isn't as funny as it used to be.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 22 December 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I will start by saying that I read and considered every post on this page.
I truely agree with Dave Matthews' anti-Bush, anti-war stance. We live in a troubled and conflicted world and everything we can do to create peace is imperative.
People love the music of DMB. Therefore there are things about DMB to be loved. But people also hate DMB. Ergo, there are things to be hated. For us Hatas to become Luvas DMB must change. Perhaps become more Joey Ramone-esque. Or even Ian Curtis-esque, DANZIG-ESQUE!
But then the current fans will find themselves abandoned, they will cry "What happened to the Dave we love? Dude, he sux. Hz nu fans r awl gay!"
Ah, conflict and strife. Conflict and strife. The only answer then is this.
Dave put down the guitar and step da' fuck away from the mic.
