Dave did put a vague, Rodney King-ish statement opposing the war on his website a few months ago.
(as something of an "old" DMB fan - from the minarets era if that means anything to our googlers - and ILX irregular, one day I'll post something here. but not today.)

FYI the amount of manpower etc being used up to block down all the damn streets just in case--GASP--a nonticketholder for the Dave Matthews event tries to get near the park to--GASP--hear Dave Matthews is probably negating a similar amount of money out of the city coffers. There is absolutely no fucking reason for the amount of security going on right now. There are concerts in the park ALL THE TIME and this is the first time I've ever seen this.
I'm kind of hoping that this bullshit was the call of AOL Time Warner and NOT Matthews, because if Matthews insisted on this, he's a dick. You can't even enter the park unless you go all the way up or all the way down, because, again, god forbid a nonticketholder (to a FREE event, wtf?) hears the, uh, dulcet tones of the Dave.

To be fair, they really don't have full scale rock concerts on the Great Lawn very often at all. This isn't anything like Summer Stage, you know.
How was it a few years back when Garth Brooks played there?

There's no need to get too whiny about it. It's just a special occasion.

The reasons for that scream for a thread. Anyhoo, mix free music and a huge space with nice weather, and you'll always get mentalism. (God forbid if you were actually trying to get exercise, there!)

Still, Dave suxor!
As this thread takes fer fucking ever to load, I found myself reading some of the banter toward the top - I think everyone needs to read this thread again, as it's completely hilarious. And it deserves some kind of award - A Pulitzer, A Peabody or two, maybe a Tony or the Nobel Prize for ... uh, guffaws (new category?)

Wow. Nolanb has ILX bang to rights. We shoulda never started those 'Ja Rule and Limp Bizkit: post your words of praise for these god-like geniuses' threads. How can we stop advertising our musical tastes so blatantly, so fanboyishly?

Actually, NolanB, if you care to look around our fine little bulletin board, you'll many many pages where people show their love or hate (or both) for just about every musical artist ever. (Take a look here, for instance -- though it's a pretty big page and you may have to scroll down for links to pages about more famous bands.)
― Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 21 December 2003 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)
I will mention again that I discovered lately that one of my favorite salsa partners (who is increasingly also a friend) likes Dave Matthews a lot. My last girlfriend, who was also a very good dancer, said favorable things about him. Neither of these people fit the boring yuppie Dave Matthews Band stereotype, not in my judgment anyway.
Maybe ILMers just hate him because enticing women like him.
