for you SF disco fans: at the SF Amoeba you can get The Glimmers' 2-disc debut album "The Glimmers Are Gee Gee Fazzi" for free while supplies last (about 20 copies, last count), that's right *FREE*, just go to their section and there should be copies filed with their other stuff. Also that Optimo "Sleepwalk" mix is now in stock, which I will now mention in the "Sleepwalk" thread. that is all...

I was just listening to his edit of Nick Chacona when I found this, this is going to be truth.

oscar, Friday, 31 October 2008 00:38 (seventeen years ago)

i'm def going. it's around corner from house. i know how influential and whatever he is, but the only mix of his i've ever heard is the resAdv mix and i was really underwhelmed.

also, GC always gets really techy. hope that doesnt' happen

jaxon, Friday, 31 October 2008 01:41 (seventeen years ago)

I dig his stuff at this site... http://www.sixmillionsteps.com/mixes_main.htm#gregwilson

I will definitely be there. He really is quite the legend. And the idea of hand-spliced edits playing on a reel-to-reel makes me sooooo happy. Farr from your SF tech-house fare.

psychgawsple, Friday, 31 October 2008 01:52 (seventeen years ago)

gah this is the site i meant:

anyone going to dungen tonight ? reports from the field have been awesome, cant' wait to hear them play fredag live.

oscar, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 02:07 (seventeen years ago)

didn't catch it. saw them a few years back and it was quite the time, though.

hoping to make it to these:

11/14- gang gang dance, marnie stern, and growing @ bimbos
11/18- pylon @ the independent
11/21- windsurf @ amoeba (in-store)

anyone else excited for any of this?

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 20:02 (seventeen years ago)

I am excited for GGD. Also excited for El Guincho, but I suspect I will not be going. :(

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 20:12 (seventeen years ago)

where's there good to eat around bimbos? besides golden boy

jaxon, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

depends on how much money you want to spend and how early you get there.

i've ended up ordering food at bimbo's a few times, but i'm not sure i'd recommend that per se.

before 10 there are loads of expensive restaurants to choose from- mos for burgers, a few decent thai and indian places, and a BUNCH of italian obviously. Later in the evening there's some burrito places near broadway and columbus, pizza, and of course all of chinatown if you want to walk a bit.

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 20:59 (seventeen years ago)

8 hour dan bell set on friday...

tricky, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 04:51 (seventeen years ago)

"undisclosed location," eh?

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 08:27 (seventeen years ago)

GGD was so great. zillion times better than at the independent a few years back.

(*゚ー゚)θ L(。・_・) °~ヾ(・ε・ *) (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 08:48 (seventeen years ago)

I thought it was pretty great too (it would have been even better if I was as high spirit fingers guy right in the front was.)

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

there was an older couple right next to me that i swear had never heard of the band but were loving it because they were on ecstasy. get a fucking room

jaxon, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

haha they were really annoying, so bizarre how people danced at this show but not at the Treasure Island Music Festival, i thought it would be a similar crowd, maybe a slightly cooler subset

jimmy who finally lives in (san frandisco), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 20:03 (seventeen years ago)

btw the Indian food at the Irish bar across the street from Bimbo's is awesome (seriously!) they serve uttapam and everything

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 20:07 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, we ended up eating at Kennedy's. was really good north and south indian food.

jaxon, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 20:10 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah it was good. I would never have guessed from the outside. We also had uttapam!

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)

i agree that it was better than at the independent, i love bimbo's and wish they had more quality shows more often. but it is sorta difficult to get to (at least 3 buses, for me). also, how annoying is marnie stern? i didn't even see her set but she has quite the obnoxious voice/personality, as witnessed at the merch booth.

did anyone make it to see dixon/ame on sunday? i wanted to go, but who wants to spend their daylight hours (on an unseasonably nice day) in the dark, dank endup?

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 21:21 (seventeen years ago)

marnie stern was TERRIBLE. sounded like a highschool deerhoof cover band with someone that just learned how to do van halen tapping.

it wasn't easy to get there for me either. had to take the 12 from south of market and then walk about a mile down mason

jaxon, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

I took a cab.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 22:03 (seventeen years ago)

i saw her once with just her and her ipod. and ye, terrible is the right word.

i realllllllly dug those new tracks ggd were playing, they have a few new ones in tow whenever i catch them and it always gets me super stoked for their next album. i almost heard some tinges of balearica in there? maybe this is an influence they've always had or maybe i just smoked too many joints and was reading into it too much.

i'd take lizzie's freestyle over that tinchy stryder verse any day, even if it was sort of a joke

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 22:12 (seventeen years ago)

I was hoping that Tinchy was going to guest via satellite TV.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)

they played a super beachy track with steel drums that was particularly good. didnt recognize it from Saint Dymphna either but House Jam rawked

jimmy who finally lives in (san frandisco), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 23:00 (seventeen years ago)

jaxon, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 23:22 (seventeen years ago)

May I inquire as to how you found that out, jaxon?

Uncle Muncle (Michael White), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 23:31 (seventeen years ago)

Uncle Muncle (Michael White), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 23:59 (seventeen years ago)

i want a good youtube link for said beachy/steel drums-y song, i've been looking for a bit to no avail.

also just noticed this...
Blevin Blectum, Freddy Mcguire, Dominique Leone @ Cafe Du Nord, SF (12/14)

excited to see dominique, missed him last time i had the chance
