you rating em backwards or something?

village idiot (dog latin), Thursday, 15 April 2010 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

srsly, you need to listen to EP7 again - track-for-track it's their best, although LP5 just pushes over for teh classic trax.

village idiot (dog latin), Thursday, 15 April 2010 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

I've only heard Confield and it's fabbylicious - would be interested in hearing the stuff that approaches or even surpasses this in terms of avant-garde fucked-up disintegrating mind-mesh grey noise

maybe rabbits feel the need to play up their 'lynchian' qualities (acoleuthic), Thursday, 15 April 2010 16:23 (sixteen years ago)

they're all good, confield is probably their most extreme in terms of granular synthesis, generative rhythms etc, then probably draft....some of quaristice too

Louis, Confield was seen as either a leap forward or a major let down among Autechre fans. I kind of felt it was the tipping point between stuff I could dig and get into and random messy claptrap for the sake of it. I've come round to it slowly (very slowly, over 9 years) but I still think bits of it sound horrible. Draft and Untilted continued this path, losing more and more melodies and adding piles and piles of jitter and glitch. Down to taste I guess - I like a balance, y'know?

By comparison LP5 seems a lot more streamlined and succinct and just about crazy enough at the time to warrant regular listening. EP7 is like its unhinged little brother with loads of conceptual gimmickry.

village idiot (dog latin), Thursday, 15 April 2010 16:31 (sixteen years ago)

too harsh on pere ubu.

John Lennon solo
The Beatles
George Harrison
Paul McCartney

Haven't heard enough of Ringo's solo work to pass an honest judgment, but suspect he's in close proximity to Sir Paul.

finally, someone bold enough to challops the beatles

iatee, Monday, 19 April 2010 15:00 (sixteen years ago)

Not trying to be contrarian for the sake of "challops," I've just been listening to Lennon non-stop the past few days and genuinely enjoy his solo work more than the Beatles as a full band.
