serious! i was actually waiting to see a new kids video as an adult, to see if my childhood hatred was unfounded and there was actual a chewy nougat pop center. totally lumbering, by the numbers song filled to bursting with sickly sounding, then currently mod signifiers (like scritti with all the latent weirdness sucked out leaving only the surface gloss). ghastly.

it's amazing! it's like the early 90s compressed into one track - pump up the jam vs nkotb + apache tossed in at various key points (eg. under the 'step 1 - we can have lots of fun' breakdown!)

My mom gave me a copy of "Hangin' Tough" for Christmas and I gave it to my sister THAT DAY, which totally pissed off my elders (evidently my mom had seen me write to a pen pal/NKOTB nut that they were "ok," and mistook that kindness for sincere fanship). That same Christmas I got the B-52's "Cosmic Thing" which remains one of my favorite albums of all time.

Anyhow, some of the NKOTB singles are pleasant, but nowhere as good as the New Edition numbers they ape ("Is This The End?" beats "Please Don't Go Girl" and so on). The Step By Step songs are more interesting in their mix of ambitiousness and chintz. "Tonight" has nostalgiac lyrics and a Beatles trumpet, while Step By Step has swirling strings and "Games" is all rap-happy in much less lame way then "Hangin' Tough." Their video comps are the bomb. Stick with those if you're looking for entertainment from these guys.

I wanna hear Creed sing about how One took us Higher and showed us What This Life's For and how the audience freed Scott Stapp from his Own Prison so he could make his Sacrifice With Arms Wide Open.

nine months pass...

I was totally like in love with the NKOTB then all of a sudden they were gone. I guess the pressure to keep up with the times or the fact that people like new things. To feel they are still "with it" really hurt the grop. Although the lead singer Joey has finnaly moved on and became solo like many other members of boy bands do. Like Justin Timberlake and Nick Lachey for example. I really miss the NKONB.

I remember the issue of Mad magazine that skewered New Kids in a bunch of articles. Mainly some line about how selling 10 million records is less a sign of their popularity, and more a sign of 10 million idiots with $15 less in their pockets.

Also, there was a fold-in which asked What Group Is More Popular Than The Beatles? and it folded into a spotlight on an empty stage and read "No One."

Bulgakov never supported the regime, and mocked it in many of his works. Therefore, most of them were consigned to his desk drawer for several decades. In his autobiography and in many biographies, it is stated that Bulgakov wrote the letter out of desperation and mental anguish, never actually intending to post it. The refusal of the authorities to let him work in the theatre and his desire to see his family living abroad, whom he had not seen for many years, led him to seek drastic measures. Despite his new work, the projects he worked on at the theatre were unsuccessful and he was stressed and unhappy. He also worked briefly at the Bolshoi Theatre as a librettist, but left after his works were not produced.
Bulgakov died from an inherited kidney disorder in 1940 and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.

The story isn't actually that exciting!

During my wife's freshman year, she dated a dude who went to HS with NKOTB and tried to flex his VIP cred by taking her out to a nightclub where they were hanging out and introducing her to them. Unfortunately this was pre-The Right Stuff and she had no idea who they were, so when dude was all "they're SINGERS" she said "so? I am too" and proceed to talk about placing third at the Mid-South Fair and being courted by Juilliard.

i'm surprised i never posted on this thread. my sister was a huge NKOTB fan. she had their posters up all over her walls, and of course her favorite was Joey, because Joey was younger than the rest of the kids on that block, which meant that he was only 8 years old than my sister, who was 8 in 1988. i was 5. a legendary new kids moment happened during a concert when Joey's voice changed in the middle of the concert. how adorable!!
