Fever Ray Dream XX

sofatruck, Friday, 26 February 2010 19:10 (sixteen years ago)

that's kind of an oddly subdued photo of them haha

The Reverend, Friday, 26 February 2010 19:11 (sixteen years ago)

I listened to the track that placed in the singles poll, whoever said it sounded like Kelis doing Pop Life was so otfm. I should listen to it, I think I listened to about 5 new albums last year.

69-point gap between ER & YYYs <3

The Reverend, Friday, 26 February 2010 19:15 (sixteen years ago)

number four!!!

six number one votes - nothing else so far got more than three!

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:18 (sixteen years ago)

My prediction:

1. The-Dream
2. Fever Ray
3. The xx
4. Yeah Yeah Yeahs
5. Electrik Red

So, I mixed up #4 and #5 but I'm on track for the top three. I think the fact that Electrik Red made it this high into the poll is a solid indicator that The-Dream will go to #1 in the final standings.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:19 (sixteen years ago)

lol you have basically guaranteed that The Dream is #3 with that statement

Jack the Dude-Kicker (HI DERE), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

actually ER didn't have the most #1s, just most so far, nm

musically, Friday, 26 February 2010 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

does it count if you keep revising them every few places? like it wasn't so long ago that you were totally convinced ER couldn't make the top 10

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

dunno the-dream but i'd rather it won than the others

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

that screencap is a gem

danzig, Friday, 26 February 2010 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

pretty sure ER won't make #1

Hideous Lamp (cozen), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:25 (sixteen years ago)

Dunno what "counts" as I'm just making informal judgment calls and predictions here. That said, I was merely commenting on my top 5 prediction thus far... not revising it. Still sticking with The-Dream at #1 and so forth.

i'm really proud that the enthusiasm and stanning on the electrik red thread has led to such traction btw - this is clearly evidence that it crossed over to significant numbers of people who didn't necessarily post there

weirdly it was probably the album that soundtracked the most IRL experiences in 2009 too, which is because pretty much all of my IRL friends also fell in love with it; house parties and afterparties of course, but there was nothing better than hearing ikonika or bok bok drop "drink in my cup" or "freaky freaky" into one of their sets and our group would just GO OFF. similarly kingdom ended his recent night slugs set by playing the ENTIRETY of "fancy" - tho i wasn't there because of a deadline crisis, fml fml fml.

i also had one of the best dancefloor experiences of my entire life getting completely crunk to this song, which also has my favourite video of 2009:

You asked for it, Herman:

That screencap with the background lights should tell you enough, right there.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:28 (sixteen years ago)

and of course the electrik red T-shirt was my favourite garment of the year, and the time binkie called me "honey love" my favourite twitter moment of the year...this group RULED MY LIFE in 09.

i'm also really proud that the album somehow placed 27th in the guardian end of year poll. still don't know how that happened or who else voted for it!

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:31 (sixteen years ago)

just reprising the moment i first heard this song and my jaw dropped 2 the floor

little boy!
you gon need more than a cheque
to get me to show some respect
a phone call when you're late, don't text
and don't flex!
nigga!
listen - little boy
don't try to show out
when your little boys come to the house
or i'll walk around this bitch in my louboutin heels with my ASS HANGIN OUT

that photo of e-red is one of my favorite things ever -- that still on the youtube of the "rockin that thang" video was the one i tried to use for the-dream but the lights in the background made it really hard to read the font so i scrapped it

hard out here for a shrimp (J0rdan S.), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:39 (sixteen years ago)

yeah initially you think it's subdued but each of their poses is so awesome

best. girls. ever.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:41 (sixteen years ago)

what's great about the electrik red album compared to lvm is how they are equally packed with musical ideas, but the e red one feels a lot more organic in that regard? like, the suite on lvm feels very labored over and thought out whereas the electrik red album seems like something where terius & tricky were just overflowing with ideas one night in the studio and decided to write things on the spot which is how we ended up with something like "p is for power" that evolves itself into a different song like three times. i'm not making a value judgment on which "feel" is empirically better but it's a cool little difference i think.

hard out here for a shrimp (J0rdan S.), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:42 (sixteen years ago)

btw naomi got engaged last night from what i could tell from twitter

So THAT'S where the worst song on the album came from...!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:44 (sixteen years ago)

damn, son -- smh at you

hard out here for a shrimp (J0rdan S.), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:45 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think it's the best song on the album like others do -- but it's a really good example of what i'm talking about

hard out here for a shrimp (J0rdan S.), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:45 (sixteen years ago)

aw congrats naomi <3 <3

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:46 (sixteen years ago)

wasn't the album written and recorded in like 2 weeks or something? think i read that somewhere

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 26 February 2010 19:50 (sixteen years ago)

Never heard of Electrik Red either, but I think I'll pass on finding out who they were.

DavidM, Friday, 26 February 2010 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 26 February 2010 20:20 (sixteen years ago)

i was going to start my highly meta "what do you actually hope to GET out of the albums/trax polls?" thread today but unbelievably there hasn't been enough whining to justify it.

call all destroyer, Friday, 26 February 2010 20:21 (sixteen years ago)

not impressed by those electrik red songs. first one: would not turn off on the radio, #2: would

3 -- The xx - xx (514 points, 39 votes, 2 #1 vote/s) (3 in p4k, 7 in p&j)

musically, Friday, 26 February 2010 20:26 (sixteen years ago)

great album

plax (ico), Friday, 26 February 2010 20:26 (sixteen years ago)

i mean the kinda thing that is great but maybe wouldn't seem like that if framed like that, prolly best to have low expectations and let it slowly steal ur life.

plax (ico), Friday, 26 February 2010 20:27 (sixteen years ago)

Okay, so far I've had YYYs, Phoenix, Lindstrom, Bat For Lashes, Royksopp and El Perro Del Mar from my ballot appearing in the results. Fever Ray is the only other likely contender to appear.

DavidM, Friday, 26 February 2010 20:28 (sixteen years ago)

i listened to this again last night -- so much <3

hard out here for a shrimp (J0rdan S.), Friday, 26 February 2010 20:29 (sixteen years ago)

Don't let the NME coverage scare you off like poor Herman, it's a brilliant album.
