make tha trap say hay (samosa gibreel), Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:37 (sixteen years ago)

I started my DJ Sprinkles thread on 13 November 2008. This was several weeks after grabbing it, which itself was several weeks after Pete Chambers emailed me to say "you gotta grab this awesome album which I'm surprised people aren't talking about more."

Mind you Pete visits Japan alot AFAIK.

Tim F, Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:37 (sixteen years ago)

i still haven't really thoroughly delved into taylor's first album

i might love "tim mcgraw" and "our song" even more than anything on fearless

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:39 (sixteen years ago)

i remember looking up the dj sprinkles album after u posted abt it here tim and all i could find were japanese websites

plax (ico), Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:41 (sixteen years ago)

i like "tim mcgraw" & "teardrops on my guitar" but i don't really know the album tracks

J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

that's a great q&k screengrab

and yeah, same as plaxico re: dj sprinkles

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:43 (sixteen years ago)

i still haven't really thoroughly delved into taylor's first album

I think the highs are higher in many ways - or, rather, there's a kind of joyful country effervescence at times that I really like - but it's not as consistent. I think all you really need are "Tim McGraw", "Picture To Burn", "Cold As You", "Stay Beautiful", "Mary's Song (Oh My My)", "Should've Said No", "Our Song" and "Invisible".

Tim F, Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:43 (sixteen years ago)

so that leaves the dream, yeah yeah yeahs, the xx, electric red and fever ray?

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:45 (sixteen years ago)

"picture to burn" - yes! actually jordan, if you haven't seen the video, go and do so immediately!

"so go and tell your friends i'm obsessive and crazy / that's fine, i'll tell mine you're gay"

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:47 (sixteen years ago)

"and if you come around sayin' sorry to me / my daddy's gonna show you how sorry you'll be"

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:48 (sixteen years ago)

WHAT I always thought it was "So go and tell your friends I'm obsessive and crazy / that's fine, you won't mind if I say... by the way... I HATE YOUR etc."

There's a real sass to some of those tracks which i think is missing on the second album which is a lot more earnest. I suspect because first time around she was writing more deliberately for a country audience. it has the odd effect of making the first album seem older (in terms of the age of the songwriter) than the second.

Tim F, Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:52 (sixteen years ago)

"Ain't got no time for tears / I'm just sitting here / planning my revenge / there's nothing stopping me / from goin' out / with ALL of YR BEST FRIENDS!"

Tim F, Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:53 (sixteen years ago)

haha i think "you won't mind if i say" is the radio/video edit. yeah taylor's so clean-cut and princessy that she needs a radio edit at the age of 16

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

i love the way she slips into "burn, burn, burn baby burn" at the end

and yeah otm about how the country focus makes her seem older - or maybe rougher, more working class - on her debut

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 25 February 2010 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

i looove fearless but her debut mostly leaves me cold. i should revisit

lil surprised yyy's is top 5 but it has a lot of fans here i guess. i think it's boring tbh

johnny crunch, Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

+ Jesus-like posturing (um...)

Haha, I heard about some interesting costume change on her recent tour to this effect?

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:02 (sixteen years ago)

also i listened to most of the fuck buttons album 2day and dug it, good stuff

johnny crunch, Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:02 (sixteen years ago)

surprised at no pissed jeans also

plax (ico), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

Actually, I think a lot of people pissed their jeans over Taylor Swift, and many others.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

i don't really give a fuck abt individual placements on this poll but q+k over mpp is an only on ilm moment that does warm the heart a little

call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

fuck buttons was my #2; i actually got emotional when i played that shit loud

call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:04 (sixteen years ago)

Thought Telefon Tel Aviv might have made it too, really been getting in to that one all over again xps

We should have called Suzie and Bobby (NickB), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:05 (sixteen years ago)

wasn't what was edited out something like "i'll tell all your friends you're gay" or something? i guess if you're singing country music no one really minds.

musically, Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:09 (sixteen years ago)

so that leaves the dream, yeah yeah yeahs, the xx, electric red and fever ray?

My prediction:

1. The-Dream
2. Fever Ray
3. The xx
4. Yeah Yeah Yeahs
5. Electrik Red

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:13 (sixteen years ago)

1. tonetta

guammls (QE II), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:15 (sixteen years ago)

kinda blowing my mind that electrik red (and quik&kurupt) are getting this many votes - did 25 people even post in those threads?

idgi, mon (k3vin k.), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

i'd be interested in seeing what rap albums didn't crack the 100

guammls (QE II), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:19 (sixteen years ago)

or 50, whatever

guammls (QE II), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:19 (sixteen years ago)

Haha, I heard about some interesting costume change on her recent tour to this effect?

The costumes are okay (there's a white dress for the end of "Love Story" though) - it was the standing still and accepting praise for like ten minutes with a look of faux-surprise on her face, about three times during the concert, plus the ostentatious descent from the back of the auditorium to the centre between "Hey Stephen" and "Fifteen", hugging each and every tween present, like Bono at Live Aid to a factor of 1000.

Tim F, Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:19 (sixteen years ago)

Psyched for a top five that I really enjoy, btw -- voted for The-Dream, Fever Ray, the xx; enjoy the YYYs album a good deal, don't think I voted for it, though; didn't vote for Electrik Red because I picked it up too late but holy hell, it's a great listen.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

like Bono at Live Aid to a factor of 1000.

Didn't even know this was possible. Geez!

ugh

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

Taylor Swift is repellent.

DavidM, Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:24 (sixteen years ago)

Taylor Swift. Her music is just... nothing.

think if you're going to come at the thread twice with words like "nothing" and "repellent" it's kinda incumbent on you to EXPAND YOUR POINT like an articulate human being rather than a bot

6 -- DJ Quik and Kurupt - Blaqkout (353.5 points, 27 votes, 1 #1 vote/s)

cooooool, woulda been my #1. don't think another full length was touching this this year.

like the pictures here, but nothing can beat the still from the hey playa thread for awesomeness bc for those two to be alive and free making dope music & riding camels in Morocco in 2009 is so damn joyous.

freebird manjunya (zvookster), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:41 (sixteen years ago)

been listening to the Q&K record loads recently, trying to usher summer in w/the power of wishful thinking alone - such a great record, probably wd be my #1 were you to re-poll today

a passing heavy daftie (cozen), Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i tried to find a big enough photo of them w/ the camels but everything was super small

J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

there are only like 15 photos on the internet of the two of them together anyway

His debut is very much his worst btw, even if it does include a couple of k-classics.

Merriweather Post Pavilion: ILX's true favorite album of 2009, even if half of us won't admit to voting for it and the other half left it off our ballots deliberately due to GAPDY overload.

Did you vote for any of the other GAPDYX albums?
