had a cynical wish that this was going to be Desireless "Voyage Voyage"...
Which I've never heard, believe it or not, though I've got two different versions in Spanish ("Vuela Vuela"). What's cynical about wanting to hear it?

I agree totally.
Lily Allen's sales: Higher than Mia's, lower than Estelle's.

She's alright, pleasant, cheery, a bit individual & doesn't blend into the background (production, personality or otherwise) like a majority of pop at the moment. I think she's going to be oversold relative to how good she actually is (see also: Arctic Monkeys) as a result of the otherwise drab state of English chart pop (that isn't some kind of house-dance) in general.
I dunno, I might just delete those mp3's and wait for the album. I think all of these songs are going to sound much better on that somehow. I think my favourite of hers might be "everything's just fine" actually. The lo-fi-ness already suits the 60's kitsch-en sink backing to a tee there.

― Tommy Tannoy (Tommy Tannoy), Sunday, 7 May 2006 18:09 (twenty years ago)
Nah, I just think this is wrong. She has big potential over here (UK): she will get press because of her dad; she will get radio play because Radio 1 has the shits for novelty sounding stuff and everyone must get sick of turgid misery-rock soon; she will not have a career, but she will have a hit single for sure, and maybe a reasonable-selling album. OK doesn't mean much but it's better than nothing. I think what UK folks on here are hooked by is the crossover potential which e.g. Annie and MIA never really had.

Yeah, that James Blunt guy is terrible, though I must admit an affection for David Niven in The Pink Panther.

The Lex's rant about Lily Allen in the early hours of this morning was very entertaining. I believe the words 'Aryan' and 'RacistJustice' were used, somewhat unsurprisingly.
I don't like any of this stuff really - it sort of reminds me of Feist with a more self-consciously fashionable slant. And surely everyone's cottoned onto cod-ska as the surefire way of showing off how diverse your influences are without alienating good old Johnny Recordbuyer?

I like the video actually, but mostly for the 'ooh, zooming around London' aspect. She is on top of Primrose Hill in one bit = none more Belle and Sebastian.
I predict her first album will be massive.

In contrast to all the other stuff on that mixtape I would find it HIGHLY amusing..... Cynical because it would reveal some chilling insights into Ms. Allen's tastes!

Keep on hyping please. I've bought two tickets for the Bush Hall gig on July 18th and I want to rake in some eBay £££.
Cheers,

a couple of girls were pushing me back saying "we were here ages ago, you can't just push to the front" and i almost felt like hiding there in the crowd and not doing the show at all, but politely I said " I've gotta sing though"
that sounds like hype to me

What I do like is that she is already promising to be a gobby wee shite in interviews.

Haven't thought this one through, to be honest. Why do I feel it's not a smart move on her part, especially because her career is only starting, but it's awfully honest and endearing at the same time?
