we def like juan maclean more than your average

that album is just really, really solid tho -- i think if they had never released "happy house" and i just heard it on the album then the album woudl've been my #1, but oh well

is my #1 and 'happy house' is by no means my favourite thing on it

there were a few trax i had to program out from the future will come (title track, "a new bot", "human disaster") and "happy house" did feel somewhat separate from it, but otherwise one of the most purely pleasurable albums of the year. didn't vote for it but it came close.

my favourite is "the simple life" by far

my fave two aside from "happy house" are "tonight" (totally beautiful track) & "accusations" for I GET SO EMOTIONAL THESE DAYS *shrieking synth coda*

The Juan Maclean is a bit of a 'great EP padded out too much' record for me - it's ridiculously patchy. The only tracks I'm ever really tempted to play are One Day, Tonight, Accusations and Happy House. I don't think I'll ever want to play it all the way through again. Admittedly those four tracks are really, really fucking good.

that said terre thaemlitz's dj set at the RFH last week WAS amazing and he is an awesomely nice dude, and it's good to see it place.

Sprinkles LP is good but obv benefitted hugely from Tim thread-repping it (big reason why i checked it out admittedly) and the ensuing political discussion. like many i just haven't heard enough recent 'deep house' albums to really compare it with so it just stood out by default.

i mean...i just didn't think it was a patch on, say, the redshape album. shrug...

i haven't heard sprinkles album but listening to youtube clips now and it does sound like my kind of thing

The Sprinkles album went #1 in Resident Advisor's list as well, it's not just a one-thread ILM hype record. I never really got into it, but then again I've come to the conclusion I just don't enjoy deep house that much.

xpost lex, you seriously can't see why more people would be into the sprinkles album than the redshape? i mean i love redshape but i can't help but think the album is somehow a little grey and flat, maybe i just prefer listening to him in singles/mixes rather than albums. sprinkles' album really flows with a lot of shifting between ambient and more propulsive stuff, it is so lush and beautiful with gorgeous synth and vocal textures, perfect for home listening which really works for the album format.

the redshape album really surprised me with how varied and constantly surprising and inventive it was (not b/c i didn't like redshape, more that i never assume any techno artist album will be that amazing) - sprinkles was sort of a really nice wash of sound but little really stood out on it.

i need 2 check out the fuck buttons -- didnt think it was my thing but off of the singles list i <3 surf solar
