we def like juan maclean more than your average

suge knight btw (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:32 (sixteen years ago)

that album is just really, really solid tho -- i think if they had never released "happy house" and i just heard it on the album then the album woudl've been my #1, but oh well

suge knight btw (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:32 (sixteen years ago)

is my #1 and 'happy house' is by no means my favourite thing on it

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:34 (sixteen years ago)

there were a few trax i had to program out from the future will come (title track, "a new bot", "human disaster") and "happy house" did feel somewhat separate from it, but otherwise one of the most purely pleasurable albums of the year. didn't vote for it but it came close.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:34 (sixteen years ago)

my favourite is "the simple life" by far

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:34 (sixteen years ago)

my fave two aside from "happy house" are "tonight" (totally beautiful track) & "accusations" for I GET SO EMOTIONAL THESE DAYS *shrieking synth coda*

suge knight btw (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:36 (sixteen years ago)

will check out juan mclean.

related, i bought the el perro del mar on the basis of it placing here and it's pretty great.

her cover of the xx that was posted on pfork yesterday is really nice

suge knight btw (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:43 (sixteen years ago)

tbh at this point i'm just a bit nervous w/r/t whether electrik red will show up in the next two spots, or go top 10

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:45 (sixteen years ago)

awesome to see the juan maclean so high!

related, i bought the el perro del mar on the basis of it placing here and it's pretty great.

also awesome. if i like this would i like that bat for lashes album? "daniel" sounds like it came out of the same studio as most of 'love is not pop'

psychgawsple, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:46 (sixteen years ago)

kong are going to be top 5, I reckon.

― m the g, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 21:32 (1 hour ago) Bookmark

is Kong any good? maybe bump the Oceansize thread if you're a fan...

Sunn O))) was my number 3. My #2 was St. Vincent, and I *really* thought my #1 would place but y'all Micachu-hatin' savages

joagga lousome (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:47 (sixteen years ago)

have all the juan fans heard the marcus worgull remix of "simple life"? so beautiful

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHgMks_3MkQ

im barry white btw (The Reverend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:47 (sixteen years ago)

i got accused of playing prog when playing that Worgull mix

micarl, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:51 (sixteen years ago)

yes! also u&k is the gavin russom remix of "accusations" which isn't on youtube

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:51 (sixteen years ago)

i think i was the #1 vote for tarot sport, not 100% sure

fun album

ciderpress, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:52 (sixteen years ago)

(boring prediction time)

I'm calling the top 12 in this order:

lindstrom & prins thomas
taylor swift
dirty projectors
quik & kurupt
electrik red
dj sprinkles
phoenix
yeah yeah yeahs
the-dream
animal collective
fever ray
the xx

im barry white btw (The Reverend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 22:58 (sixteen years ago)

i voted for 7 of those :/

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

Thought Tarot Sport would scrape the top 10 actually, great record.

The Juan Maclean is a bit of a 'great EP padded out too much' record for me - it's ridiculously patchy. The only tracks I'm ever really tempted to play are One Day, Tonight, Accusations and Happy House. I don't think I'll ever want to play it all the way through again. Admittedly those four tracks are really, really fucking good.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

i voted for three

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:02 (sixteen years ago)

how can you not like No Time xp

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

No love for "The Station" on that Juan album -- really?? C'mon guys!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:05 (sixteen years ago)

the top 12 = 7 i voted for, 2 i didn't but am fundamentally ok with...and the fucking APD section of GAPDY

fever ray are a lock for #1 sadly.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:07 (sixteen years ago)

only 4 of the 12 on my part

im barry white btw (The Reverend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:07 (sixteen years ago)

sadly you will keep moaning xp

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:07 (sixteen years ago)

really high ppv on that one! (in spite of my #11 vote)

im barry white btw (The Reverend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:08 (sixteen years ago)

thought sprinkles would place higher actually. fantastic record

psychgawsple, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:09 (sixteen years ago)

I'd guess Fever Ray is my favourite thing on that list, and would be a worthy winner, although I'd really REALLY like to hear DJ Sprinkles after Tiarnan spent an afternoon basically telling me how ace it is

joagga lousome (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:10 (sixteen years ago)

how can you not like No Time xp

I do! I got No Time and Accusations mixed up.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:12 (sixteen years ago)

yeah yeah yeahs
the-dream
animal collective
fever ray

Could be any one of these four for #1. Can't really see it being The XX.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:13 (sixteen years ago)

blah blah blah like the sprinkles album fine, do not get what's so "wow" about it at all

that said terre thaemlitz's dj set at the RFH last week WAS amazing and he is an awesomely nice dude, and it's good to see it place.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:13 (sixteen years ago)

Sprinkles LP is good but obv benefitted hugely from Tim thread-repping it (big reason why i checked it out admittedly) and the ensuing political discussion. like many i just haven't heard enough recent 'deep house' albums to really compare it with so it just stood out by default.

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:13 (sixteen years ago)

i mean...i just didn't think it was a patch on, say, the redshape album. shrug...

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:14 (sixteen years ago)

i haven't heard sprinkles album but listening to youtube clips now and it does sound like my kind of thing

ciderpress, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:15 (sixteen years ago)

ciderpress, what's so awesome about Fuck Buttons, and would I like it?

joagga lousome (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:15 (sixteen years ago)

We had this big discussion last year with some grousing about the fact that there were only 3 really "political" albums on that list (Erykah Badu, Young Jeezy, The Bug). Is DJ Sprinkles the only one this year?

im barry white btw (The Reverend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:19 (sixteen years ago)

Everything. Shocked it is this low. I mean, angel vaginas guys.

Freddy 'The Wonder Chicken' (Gukbe), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

political? What is DJ Sprinkles exactly?

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

Louis dude you would totally love the Fuck Buttons album, surprised you haven't heard it.

The Sprinkles album went #1 in Resident Advisor's list as well, it's not just a one-thread ILM hype record. I never really got into it, but then again I've come to the conclusion I just don't enjoy deep house that much.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

xpost lex, you seriously can't see why more people would be into the sprinkles album than the redshape? i mean i love redshape but i can't help but think the album is somehow a little grey and flat, maybe i just prefer listening to him in singles/mixes rather than albums. sprinkles' album really flows with a lot of shifting between ambient and more propulsive stuff, it is so lush and beautiful with gorgeous synth and vocal textures, perfect for home listening which really works for the album format.

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

xxp deep house w/ angry queer rants

im barry white btw (The Reverend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

the house-ness is more disputable than the deepness, angriness, or queerness

im barry white btw (The Reverend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:22 (sixteen years ago)

hm. alright, sounds like i'm overdo for a listen.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

Can't really see it being The XX.

May want to reconsider. I think it's a dark horse for the #1 spot...

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:24 (sixteen years ago)

really don't see that happening

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

the redshape album really surprised me with how varied and constantly surprising and inventive it was (not b/c i didn't like redshape, more that i never assume any techno artist album will be that amazing) - sprinkles was sort of a really nice wash of sound but little really stood out on it.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

i need 2 check out the fuck buttons -- didnt think it was my thing but off of the singles list i <3 surf solar

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 23:26 (sixteen years ago)

"Surf Solar" is great, but I think the album closes in even more spectacular fashion:
