thirded - liked several jams off that, it was a more than decent album, not one i felt moved to rave about or rep for though

Too low!

We should have called Suzie and Bobby (NickB), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:13 (fourteen years ago) link

Good album - though I didn't hear it until after I submitted my ballot.

o. nate, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:14 (fourteen years ago) link

Maybe? Can't make that call until I see the top 17.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:14 (fourteen years ago) link

Yep, this is top ten material for me. Really kept sneaking up on me throughout the year, but I played it as much as anything else in the end.

I am really enjoying the Death album upthread.

dog latin, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:17 (fourteen years ago) link

BFL was my #4, but I might be comfortable with it coming at #18. Like I said, there are still 17 more to go before I get butthurt.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:17 (fourteen years ago) link

Had I voted, I would have ranked that album very high; my only real "problem" with it is that I got both B4L albums at the same time and I like Fur and Gold more.

Jack the Dude-Kicker (HI DERE), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:20 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm trying to think of 17 albums from 2009 better than Two Suns... can't do it.

DavidM, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:36 (fourteen years ago) link

My #1 already came in at #26 here, but #2 and #3 are still waiting to place (one of which I'm sure will, but the other I'm not sure at all).

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 17:39 (fourteen years ago) link

I wish I could see my ballot. But I don't want to email Musically again if she's really busy, hopefully she can reply at some point.

I haven't even checked that email acct in a week or two, I'll check it tonight and get any ballots out.

musically, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:07 (fourteen years ago) link

one I voted for!

m the g, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:07 (fourteen years ago) link

I lost interest in trying to crack that Lips record after five or so listens. I appreciate it, but don't enjoy it necessarily.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:12 (fourteen years ago) link

Im pretty sure I voted for the Flaming Lips too.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:12 (fourteen years ago) link

I haven't totally got into it so I don't think I gave it a high placing, but when it's good it's great.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:13 (fourteen years ago) link

Heh, this is turning into the "at least that's out of the way" section of the list for me. Dirty Projectors next please.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:15 (fourteen years ago) link

Second Herman's stuff, it's a great record that I ought to listen to more!

really surprised at that bat for lashes album being so low

suge knight btw (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:30 (fourteen years ago) link

refused to listen to the Flaming Lips ever again after that 'Yeah Yeah Yeah Song'

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:31 (fourteen years ago) link

given how the bat for lashes/florence and the machine/la roux/little boots audiences overlap so much elsewhere (despite their being pretty distinct artists), it's curious that ilx has embraced one but definitely not the others

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:32 (fourteen years ago) link

xp I can understand that, but this is by some way their best work since the soft bulletin.

m the g, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:37 (fourteen years ago) link

to many people, that's not saying much

ILM be full of goths.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:41 (fourteen years ago) link

I like Florence a little bit too, but La Roux (and Little Boots to a lesser degree) can go rot the fuck in hell.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:42 (fourteen years ago) link

Shame on Phil Oakey for wasting his time with Little Boots.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:43 (fourteen years ago) link

the advantage BFL album has over, um, the other aforementioned UK wimmins, is the general dream pop/ethereal production ethos really (tho it doesn't mine that enough imo). that's what i like best about it at least. don't rate it much more than the little boots lp tho.

i love that Bat For Lashes album and made my Top 10, surprised (like others have said) that it didn't make ILM's Top 10.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 19:37 (fourteen years ago) link

nice! i think maxwell is the only thing i heard too late that would've cracked my top 20

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 19:38 (fourteen years ago) link

The Maxwell album really grew on me through out the year. It might actually be my favorite album of his.

I voted for the Flaming Lips. I really wasn't excited about a new album by them but it's easily their best since the Soft Bulletin.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 19:44 (fourteen years ago) link

Gave Maxwell a try a couple of months ago. Found it pretty bland, tbh.

untrue pitch, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 19:46 (fourteen years ago) link

the maxwell singles still kind of lord over the album for me, but it's really nice to listen to

suge knight btw (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 February 2010 19:48 (fourteen years ago) link

Maxwell not making p4k's list was criminal. Glad to see it so high up. The Bat for Lashes should be well higher. That one's only gotten better with time.

Indexed, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 19:50 (fourteen years ago) link

I think the Maxwell album is pretty great throughout, really glad to see it here.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 19:53 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm the opposite, the "cold"/"fistful of tears"/"help somebody"/"love you" stretch is my favourite on the album - the entire thing really grew on me so much over the last few months of the year, it's an album that you live with and only realise a bit later how much you love it. (xp to jordan)

it's def an album qua album but if i had to choose one cut it'd be "help somebody" - i love the details of the arrangement, the way it ebbs and flows, that moment halfway through when the beat drops out for a second <3

yeah help somebody is such a jam.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 24 February 2010 19:57 (fourteen years ago) link

this record makes an incredible case for live-band rnb that is not some self-consciously retro dapkings shit
