Awful cover, but I'm digging the advance track.

Didn't see this thread earlier. But this now exists: Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record

Wait, did ppl dislike the mgmt cover? I loved it!
― 80085 (a hoy hoy), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:38 (sixteen years ago)
I'm used to Anthony Ausgang's work via Spacemen 3 related stuff so when I saw the MGMT cover I was all "Hey, that guy!"
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 February 2010 17:39 (sixteen years ago)
The general reaction was more or less, What the hell were they thinking?
― Seriously what the hell is wrong with you that you think that is a great t (ksh), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:39 (sixteen years ago)
Which is the same reaction people are (rightfully) having to the title of the new BSS record
― Seriously what the hell is wrong with you that you think that is a great t (ksh), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:40 (sixteen years ago)
Anyone else try to get the e-mail for the free download of the new track? Signed up, but the e-mail never showed up.

I usually have no time for BSS side projects (occasional exception: Apostle of Hustle) but this is pretty good!

― Inside Lewellyn Sinclair (cryptosicko), Saturday, 15 February 2014 02:56 (twelve years ago)
there are so many side-projects, and so few broken-social-scene albums, that bss seems to be the side-project.
― Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 15 February 2014 02:57 (twelve years ago)
What y'all think of Kevin Drew's latest, Darlings? Two songs in and I'm liking so far.
― Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Sunday, 23 March 2014 00:10 (twelve years ago)
really wanted to like it cause I love this guy's work in BSS, but kind of underwhelming. I think "Spirit If" is much stronger.
― calstars, Sunday, 23 March 2014 12:05 (twelve years ago)
Listening to the self-titled BSS album now. 10 years later, and I still love this album. Perhaps it's nostalgia, but I think it holds up nicely.
― Benjamin-, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 05:13 (eleven years ago)
CLASSIC, the s/t is the best one!
― when is the new Jim O'Rourke album coming out (spazzmatazz), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 05:14 (eleven years ago)
yep. really good. i might need to dig it out too although i remember it coming out in '06, not '05 for some reason.
― Broth Viking (dog latin), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 14:07 (eleven years ago)
i like the alternative version to Shoreline that came with a free EP on the back of the album.
― Broth Viking (dog latin), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 14:09 (eleven years ago)
u sure u don't mean "Major Label Debut (fast version)"?
― & I was throwing a party the same night as (bernard snowy), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 15:57 (eleven years ago)
I listened to this album a lot on headphones & eventually saw them live around this time (mighta been early 2007?) it sounds real good but kinda overlong/underwritten
― & I was throwing a party the same night as (bernard snowy), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 15:59 (eleven years ago)
... & I could understand haters calling it "overproduced" but they would be missing the point b/c the production is brilliant. "Ibi Dreams Of Pavement" is like 4 minutes of the roof being ripped off the house by hurricane winds & falling trees.
― & I was throwing a party the same night as (bernard snowy), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 16:01 (eleven years ago)
I will have to give this another chance because I was one of those overproduced haters. I liked Forgiveness Rock Record a lot, despite the ridiculous album title.
― kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)
you might be right, bernard snowy. it's been ages since i last heard it.
― Unheimlich Manouevre (dog latin), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 16:57 (eleven years ago)
It's getting better with age. I still prefer "You Forgot It In People" any day of the week, but "Ibi Dreams of Pavement" is incredible, maybe their best ever song.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 17:00 (eleven years ago)
xp "Major Label Debut" is the song about "just coming here to come down" that was v.laidback & chill on the album, but uptempo with horns on the EP
I take pleasure in the silliness of things like "Forgiveness Rock Record" or "Major Label Debut (Fast)" as titles
― & I was throwing a party the same night as (bernard snowy), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 17:10 (eleven years ago)
Fire-eyed Boy is my fave
― calstars, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 20:03 (eleven years ago)
I think their drummer has a lot to do with the greatness of the s/t
― calstars, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)
I put on almost crimes today and it was still pretty great
― 龜, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 20:12 (eleven years ago)
this new Brendan Canning album has the muddiest production

― calstars, Friday, 31 March 2017 11:35 (nine years ago)
I wonder if anyone who listens to the new one knows what it's about ?
― calstars, Saturday, 1 April 2017 02:23 (nine years ago)
"Our Faces Split the Coast in Half" is CLASSIC. never been able to figure out the lyrics to that one...
― flappy bird, Saturday, 1 April 2017 05:09 (nine years ago)
That song has lyrics?
― phantompenguin, Monday, 3 April 2017 04:29 (nine years ago)
i mean it could be gibberish vocalizing but idk always sounded like words buried in there
― flappy bird, Monday, 3 April 2017 05:05 (nine years ago)
New single kind of underwhelming?
― calstars, Monday, 15 May 2017 23:45 (nine years ago)
i hadn't thought of them in years but Hug of Thunder came on my Release Radar today and I rather enjoyed it.
― (•̪●) (carne asada), Friday, 19 May 2017 13:11 (nine years ago)
I've come around to the single. It sounds nice and warm now like bss does
― calstars, Thursday, 22 June 2017 01:31 (eight years ago)
bought the record and have invested several listens but something just seems off. probably user error
― calstars, Wednesday, 12 July 2017 22:17 (eight years ago)
This album is wayyyy better than I expected. I put off listening to it because I was never a big fan of these guys, "7/4 (Shoreline)" excepted, but this is really hitting the spot for me right now.
I'm a particular fan of "Halfway Home," which has the muscle and drive that "7/4" has and most of their other tracks do not, and "Towers and Masons."
― Many men scream death (voodoo chili), Thursday, 27 July 2017 22:19 (eight years ago)
I tried really hard to like this album but I ended up trying way too hard for it to be natural.
― calstars, Thursday, 27 July 2017 22:33 (eight years ago)
The album is great for biking. Good rhythmic drive, though not too tight to pedal along to, and a lot of climaxes. Have heard it a lot over the last couple of weeks.
― Frederik B, Thursday, 27 July 2017 22:37 (eight years ago)
I think Frederik has confused the new BSS album with his favourite porno.
― The Anti-Climax Blues Band (Turrican), Thursday, 27 July 2017 22:39 (eight years ago)
LOL
― kornrulez6969, Thursday, 27 July 2017 22:45 (eight years ago)
Porno is bad for biking. Everyone knows that.
― Frederik B, Thursday, 27 July 2017 23:29 (eight years ago)
lol!
― calstars, Thursday, 27 July 2017 23:56 (eight years ago)
Spoken like a true specialist :D
― The Anti-Climax Blues Band (Turrican), Friday, 28 July 2017 17:10 (eight years ago)
yeah I'm a fan of the album, but people listening to music while biking are dangerous and scare me.
― Van Horn Street, Friday, 28 July 2017 21:53 (eight years ago)
I keep thinking that this album is named Days of Thunder.
― spastic heritage, Saturday, 29 July 2017 11:26 (eight years ago)
Not really a fan of this record. Too middle of the road. This band caught lightning in a bottle a long time ago.
― yesca, Saturday, 29 July 2017 14:12 (eight years ago)
What do we think of this new EP?
― calstars, Saturday, 16 February 2019 00:18 (seven years ago)
I like it.
