ok let me level with you: complaining about poll results is just not really a mindset i understand or can really get behind.

well every year, every poll, there's people who don't like results of polls,last years I did like a lot in it, this year I don't. Other people have said they dislike the results so far.
Plenty of people who didn't like last years probably like this years, I'm not the only one who doesn't like the results so far. No doubt if pitchfork bands dominate the top 20 others will dislike that too. That's the internet for you. Would be very very boring if everyone agreed with one another.

Spotify doesn't have many of these albums?

I can't even access Spotify in the U.S. I guess there is a way to do using a proxy, but I'm not up on the specifics of it. I have been able to find a fair amount of the albums on Lala or Grooveshark though.

Jmo, but to the extent that they were largely written out of rock history up until last year, I think that it is an important resurrection. I grew up in the seventies, listened to a lot of punk and proto-punk and had never heard of them before.

'for the whole world to see' was never previously released afaik so it never had the chance to be written, but yes an omission now thankfully filled

curate's egg is something that's good in parts, as in the superpolite curate who gets a bad egg but disputes the fact: "Oh no, it is quite good in parts" Think you mean something else.

there also seemed to be a reactionary sentiment, if they weren't trying to rewrite history in its favour people reached either for inessential oddity or overhyped juvenilia, none of this seemed right and i don't think it diminishes death to say it's a good album with an unusual history that sort of threw critics

Screw the history books, it's just a really good rock & roll record that no one had heard before.

I have heard seven of these and liked Royskopp, FotL and Death. Neko and MG aren't really my thing but obv both good. don't get Grizzly Bear but I do get Lada Gaga, my friends' kids are all into her. there's probably 8 or 10 more that I plan on checking out when I spin radio rotation. I see a lot of this stuff in the stacks and pass it up but tbh an ILM recommendation does help.

Yup. His music is all so aimless and pointless.

I really wanted to like him a lot, but he really holds nothing for me unless he starts producing for a good vocalist.

Actually, I think I would really like a Dam-Funk & Kurupt album.

dude "i wanna thank U (4 steppin' into my life)" is like, perfect. kurupt would be interesting tho - i'm interested to see who he eventually lends his joints to, if he hasn't already

I listened to Dâm-Funk a few months ago when Neil S recommended it to me saying it was my kind of thing, but I couldn't really get into it. I tried it again over the weekend and still nothing drew me in. Maybe I need to give it repeated plays but it's a bit long to keep doing that unless its just in the background but that's not an ideal way to get into something if it needs repeated listening.

It was a good year for femme Art Pop, what with Bat for Lashes (whose yet to place), Florence (who won't), and Cortney Tidwell (also likely out of the running).

tidwell is miles better than the other two imo - her album was one of those that only just missed my ballot

i'd also imagine that erykah would be a good fit for some of dam-funk's material - listening to "window seat", the beat isn't dissimilar from a lot of stuff he's doing
