what constitutes "electrodribble"? anything with a keyboard?

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Tim's comments last year:

I think people are expanding this too much. "Indie-Friendly Electrodribble" seems to imply an element of tweeness and softness.

Postal Service and Max Tundra and The Avalanches yes, Blechdom no.

(Yes I can see how Blechdom/Tigerbeat 6 are arguably twee but it's of a different stripe I think)

Like, Peaches are the paradigmatic example for me of the electronic act people who feel uncomfortable with actual dance music still check for all the time (i hang out with too many gays/lesbians though, maybe this is why) - but I wouldn't describe her as "electrodribble".

i don't think that describes anything on this list so far?

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm not exactly in a made up pejorative genre

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, either way

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:29 (fourteen years ago) link

i thought electrodribble and indie friendly electrodribble split into different genres in january 2009 after the dribble wars

neuromantica

guammls (QE II), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:48 (fourteen years ago) link

expected toeachizown to place higher.. don't remember if i voted for it or not

guammls (QE II), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:52 (fourteen years ago) link

that lily allen album is great

3:16 (jjjusten), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:53 (fourteen years ago) link

the rest of the poll seems to be the year electrodribble hit big.

ugh i was honestly hoping no one would use that phrase in a serious way ever again. besides junior boys and royksopp (both are maybes) what could possibly constitute electrodribble on this list? i guess jj is almost the definition of electrodribble now that i think of it, but that's about it. such an amorphous, useless term

psychgawsple, Friday, 12 February 2010 21:08 (fourteen years ago) link

might as well call the broadcast focus group electrodribble while we're at it lol

guammls (QE II), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:09 (fourteen years ago) link

ppl be confused by the lack of ROCK MUZAK

I think I've given up on Zombi & Oneohtrix Point Never placing :(

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:15 (fourteen years ago) link

I voted for junior boys!

plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:18 (fourteen years ago) link

def their nicest sounding record, really tactile yet glossy and glassy

plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:18 (fourteen years ago) link

I think I've given up on Zombi & Oneohtrix Point Never placing

...and Emeralds or 6 Organs. Only psych-ish thing I can see making it is Current 93, but even that is only a vague hope now.

We should have called Suzie and Bobby (NickB), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:22 (fourteen years ago) link

i voted emeralds fwiw, i think more ppl listened to them this year than when they became posterboys for hypnagogic

plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:23 (fourteen years ago) link

emeralds deserve better than being labelled hypnagogic pop by that wanker keenan

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:26 (fourteen years ago) link

...says the guy with the electrodribble gun set to repeat fire.

;o)

yeah, but in the aftermath of that on ILM, emeralds were the one that got singled out by a lot of peeps as the awesome one iirc, still dont know any skaters tho

plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:29 (fourteen years ago) link

never cared for skaters or ferraros solo stuff

too much stuff i know virtually nothing about here--the Baroness, Miranda and Lily discs are my only picks to place so far. i like what's been posted re: Mariah (probably better than lvsm actually); no idea what to check out next tho. halp!

xp

ah, another one i know. phew.

the not-glo-fi one (Ioannis), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:39 (fourteen years ago) link

when i was writing my thesis last year, i started going to the cinema once a week by myself to give myself enough space to totally zone out (saw so much blockbuster/apatowish stuff last yr) and i had dled this off itunes, and when i put it on now it makes me think of nicholas cage googling 9/11 and jason segal's creepy lil dog. Awesome album, really rich sounding, thick bass, ripping guitar lines and the way it shift tempos is A+. I also love the guy's voice.

plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:41 (fourteen years ago) link

yay! my 2nd vote! rock and roll foreva!

The Reverend, Friday, 12 February 2010 21:44 (fourteen years ago) link

that was my #2 btw

The Reverend, Friday, 12 February 2010 21:44 (fourteen years ago) link

Nice surprise but I didn't vote for it purely because the material was from the 70s even if unreleased. But I'm pleased it made it now.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:45 (fourteen years ago) link

it was my number 4, junior boys was my 6 and the dream is my 5 so thats a clear run WHEN that places

plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 12 February 2010 21:46 (fourteen years ago) link

love that death album but didn't vote for it - decided to vote for just actual new stuff but it def could have been in my top 20

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Friday, 12 February 2010 22:00 (fourteen years ago) link

It seems premature to bemoan a electrodribble sweep when aside from arguably Fever Ray, those two (arguably three) are about the last of it I expect to see. I don't recall a great deal of Neon Indian or IAMX love hereabouts.

strange obsession was for certain vegetables and fruit (Derelict), Friday, 12 February 2010 22:01 (fourteen years ago) link

wouldnt normally vote for a reissue but it was abt a billion times higher profile a release than originally right?

plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 12 February 2010 22:02 (fourteen years ago) link

It was never released before, only a "Keep on Knocking"/"Politicians in My Eyes" single

The Reverend, Friday, 12 February 2010 22:07 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah so its not really the same

plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 12 February 2010 22:08 (fourteen years ago) link

queens detroit represent, buy the album when I drop it

another great cover

At this point last year i think the 2008 poll was better
TOP 10 NOW: //////////////shawty got poll poll poll poll poll poll poll (part II: 2008 ALBUMS)///////////////
