if you hope that it matters, and you're having your doubts, why are you still climbing the ladder? what's wrong with you? maybe you're too wasted to be climbing that ladder, pal.

feeling old enough to repaint but young enough to sell right now tbh

tylerw, Friday, 12 February 2010 18:32 (sixteen years ago)

Why can't you be twenty on sugar mountain? Do you just skip from 19 to 21? That doesn't make any sense to me. No wonder so many people are leaving there too soon.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 12 February 2010 18:33 (sixteen years ago)

Why is the cowgirl in the sand? Does that mean there's a sandgirl in the cow? It doesn't make any sense people!

kornrulez6969, Friday, 12 February 2010 18:35 (sixteen years ago)

If everybody knows this place is nowhere, why are they wondering what's going on there? Obviously, nothing is going on there, its nowhere people!

Is love really the only thing that can break your heart? What about cholesterol and trans fats? They can do some damage too, amiright? He should change the lyrics to Only Love and possibly bacon can break your heart.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 12 February 2010 18:50 (sixteen years ago)

Why does red mean run? Next you'll tell me green means stop.

Brad C., Friday, 12 February 2010 18:55 (sixteen years ago)

I like that NY song that says something like " I know my problems are meaningless, that doesnt make them go away". I cant for the life of me remember what song it is, i think its off Tonights the Night or on the beach.

Bill Magill, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:02 (sixteen years ago)

it's on the beach (the song)

tylerw, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:03 (sixteen years ago)

thanks, i knew i was close.

Bill Magill, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:05 (sixteen years ago)

Why do your senses tingle when you dance? That sounds to me like some type of circulation problem or something serious like that. Why take a chance?

kornrulez6969, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:14 (sixteen years ago)

and WHAT is the DEAL with needing a maid?? men, am i right???

"they killed his brother, y'know...yeah, it's true...they left him lying in a driveway. why a driveway?? why not put him in the garage? can we have just a little respect for the driveway?? meanwhile, the driveway's thinking 'oh here we go. again with the dead coke dealers??

take my advice...PLEASE!"

johnnyo, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:35 (sixteen years ago)

How did burning his credit card provide Neil Young with fuel? Or was it just that he burned his gas card (a "credit card for fuel")?

kingkongvsgodzilla, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:35 (sixteen years ago)

i assumed he used the credit card as kindling to start his campfire

El GarBage (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 12 February 2010 19:38 (sixteen years ago)

One thing I've always wanted to know...how can the Danger Bird fly, if his wings have turned to stone? Have you ever tried flying with wings of stone? It's darn near impossible people. No wonder he flies alone.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:39 (sixteen years ago)

xpost he cooked some fried eggs and country ham iirc

tylerw, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:39 (sixteen years ago)

if you can be happy for the rest of your life with a cinnamon girl, that's cool, but i'd rather spend time with a real live woman ifyouknowwhatimean

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Friday, 12 February 2010 19:45 (sixteen years ago)

Why'd you ruin my life? Also, where you takin' my kid? Call me!

johnnyo, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:48 (sixteen years ago)

How did Pocahontas feel in the morning?

kingkongvsgodzilla, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:49 (sixteen years ago)

Why do you keep fucking up?

kingkongvsgodzilla, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:50 (sixteen years ago)

Didn't NY kind of renounce My My Hey Hey after Cobain cited the lyrics in his suicide note...? I think I read it really fucked him up.

Hadrian VIII, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:51 (sixteen years ago)

I've heard of expecting to fly, but THIS IS RIDICULOUS!

johnnyo, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:52 (sixteen years ago)

watch out for the ones standing near garbage cans, though
their kids are totally uncool and uneducated

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:24 (sixteen years ago)

It's all well and good to say Don't Be Denied. But it's okay to be denied some things, right? Like syphilis. You can deny me that any time people. Or being stuck in an elevator with Stephen Stills. Please, deny me. Amiright?

kornrulez6969, Friday, 12 February 2010 20:34 (sixteen years ago)

It's not okay to be denied Times Fades Away on cd. Yet Neil denies it to us. Hypocrite.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 12 February 2010 21:21 (sixteen years ago)

Istill can't hear that line from Tell Me Why without thinking about mortgages

pithfork (Hurting 2), Saturday, 13 February 2010 01:41 (sixteen years ago)

When I dance you can really love? That's a little abstract. If I were to samba around the deli, would you start making googly eyes at the pastrami?

Hideous Lump, Saturday, 13 February 2010 02:05 (sixteen years ago)

What the hell does the old laughing lady find so funny? She can't hear, keep time or count the score. That would make me pretty damn cranky. They should call it The Old Grouchy Lady.

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 13 February 2010 02:16 (sixteen years ago)

What the hell is Neil doing looking at the sky? It's about to rain, for crying out loud. Get inside before you catch pneumonia.

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 13 February 2010 02:18 (sixteen years ago)

He was between prime years at 40. If he had lived another year he would have been in his prime.

Snake eyes, french fries, and I got lots of gas. Full moon and a jumping tune and you don't have to ask.

You're really such a beautiful fish, floppin' on the summer sand...

Joint Custody (ian), Saturday, 13 February 2010 04:06 (sixteen years ago)

one of the biggest NY head scratchers for me---

Live with me, live with me
Live with me, live with me
Live with me.

Lost in space
I heard you were lost in space
That's such a lonely place
for you to be.

Out of control
Singin' with too much soul
I heard you got out on parole
Workin' for the queen.

Gardening again
Landscape again
Keepin' all the grounds
around her clean
Workin' for the queen.

Don't take out the magic pen
Don't draw on the infinity board
Your buildings, if they rise again
Would do much better
on the ocean floor
They'll never feel the way
they did before
They did before.

Out on the ocean floor,
out on the ocean floor
What could be stranger
than the unknown danger
That lies on the ocean floor?

Breakers crash on the beach
I count them like lambs in my sleep
They come at me steady
They know I'm not ready
They pound on my mattress door
Have they got a big one in store.

Losing you
I heard I was losing you
That's not the only thing
that I got to lose
I got to lose
The deep sea blues
Look at these blues
The deep sea blues

Live with me, live with me.

Joint Custody (ian), Saturday, 13 February 2010 04:06 (sixteen years ago)

"gardening again / landscape again" kind of blows my mind every time.

Joint Custody (ian), Saturday, 13 February 2010 04:06 (sixteen years ago)

What's an infinity board anyhow?!

Joint Custody (ian), Saturday, 13 February 2010 04:07 (sixteen years ago)

Love is a nose, but you'd better not pick it.

Hardcore Homecare (staggerlee), Saturday, 13 February 2010 05:12 (sixteen years ago)

i like the idea that neil actually meant sid vicious in my my hey hey

henri grenouille (Frogman Henry), Saturday, 13 February 2010 05:21 (sixteen years ago)

Well yeah, because if there was ever a definitive example of fading away rather than burning out it was Cap'n Lydon.

Hardcore Homecare (staggerlee), Saturday, 13 February 2010 05:41 (sixteen years ago)

Is it strange you should change? I don't know, why don't you try it and see if it works?

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Saturday, 13 February 2010 17:19 (sixteen years ago)

two years pass...

Revive!

I was looking at my map the other day and got to thinking. Do you have any idea how far it is from Peru to Texarkana? How the heck is Neil going to ride his llama all that way? It's thousands of miles for crying out loud! My guess is the llama drops dead somewhere in Venezuela. He should just take a plane.

kornrulez6969, Monday, 22 October 2012 23:34 (thirteen years ago)

I follow him on twitter and he's doing a Q&A this week! You should ask him.

So many Neil threads these days.

Inconceivable (to the entire world) (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 05:17 (thirteen years ago)

It's like some conversation you'd overhear snippets of in an interstate diner in new Mexico at 2 am and you'd quietly pay yr bill and get back on the road quick and go fifty miles further than you planned. Tingles me spine it does.

omar little, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 05:20 (thirteen years ago)

Good comparison.

"This is a mess, isn't it Sheriff?"
"I reckon it'll do till the real mess comes along."

clemenza, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 11:32 (thirteen years ago)

What do you mean, "he had bullet holes in his mirrors"?

Enough to make anyone's eyes tired

Ernest Metalchats (Tom D.), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 13:56 (thirteen years ago)

mentioned over in the psychedelic pill thread, but we could get neil to answer all of these questions tomorrow -- via twitter! #askneil

tylerw, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 14:20 (thirteen years ago)

but speaking of tonight's the night, i'm flipping through this new-ish Neil Young FAQ book i picked up from the library, and it's ok, but there are these mistakes that keep bugging me. like saying that jack nitzsche played piano on tonight's the night, the song (he didn't), or that "change your mind" is a haunting eulogy for kurt cobain (neil was playing this song live in 1993). nerdy complaints, but the book is basically supposed to be the ultimate neil young nerd book.

tylerw, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 14:24 (thirteen years ago)

I caught rust sleeping just the other night - claimed it was "just resting its eyes"

Faster than food (Myonga Vön Bontee), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

I'm of half a mind to repost that to what a horribly formed "joke"

how's life, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

I think he's musing out loud about the appeal of burning out rather than fading away, eff you, rust! On the other hand: "Once you're gone/ You can never come back", well, yas yas, h'mmm, if we're talkin mortality--career-wise, it seems everybody in rawk can always come back, to some level...yo Seinfeld!

dow, Tuesday, 23 October 2012 14:57 (thirteen years ago)

Can't find the actual interview, but he was talking about when people ask him about his lyrics and said, "'What is the color when black is burned?' What does that mean? It's like, I dunno, dark grey or something."

nah those are just rust spots....i'll have to pull out shakey, but there was a shooting of some dude that was kinda like the topanga drug dealer to the stars or something, a local character

terrell sug (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, they even tracked down the guy in shakey, he had been in jail for a while iirc. he really did shoot four guys in a cocaine deal.
