ok this is a weird list

chris nibbs (cozen), Friday, 12 February 2010 16:04 (fourteen years ago) link

Really got into that one recently though.

DavidM, Friday, 12 February 2010 16:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Their best album imo.

DavidM, Friday, 12 February 2010 16:06 (fourteen years ago) link

that junior boys album is real good chill house i think, i was surprised that ppl were so meh on it

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Friday, 12 February 2010 16:09 (fourteen years ago) link

I keep coming on to these results threads so late in the game that I feel like an asshole for not being there earlier than then jumpin' in all willy nilly.

Really enjoying The Grandfather Paradox, more stuff that I've never heard of before that's awesome plz

^^potentially not true at all, sry^^ (Z S), Friday, 12 February 2010 16:17 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost Think its because their previous was the same, but with better tunes.

sofatruck, Friday, 12 February 2010 16:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Two in a row I voted for! Begone Dull Care is great, am curious who voted it #1.

Enoki Doki (Paul in Santa Cruz), Friday, 12 February 2010 16:41 (fourteen years ago) link

Royksopp and Junior Boys are the first two to appear from my list.

Begone Dull Care is their weakest album in my opinion but only because the first two are just perfect. I think Work being the second track made the album a but hard to get into at first. When people talk about the album being less instant, I think that must be the song they think of. Songs like Hazel and Bits & Pieces are up there with their best and as poppy as In The Morning.

It's the exact opposite for me with Royksopp, I like the first two albums just fine but Junior was in a different league. It's such a warm album and probably my favorite production on an album this year. I'm surprised it didn't sell a lot better, when I first heard The Girl & The Robot I thought it would give Robyn her second number one.

Kitchen Person, Friday, 12 February 2010 16:42 (fourteen years ago) link

it looks like the last two didn't actually get a #1 vote but '#1 vote/s' is just included in details from hereon, or am i misreading?

mdskltr (blueski), Friday, 12 February 2010 16:44 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost BDC isn't really the "same" as earlier JrBoys though, less empty space in the mix, more bass-heavy and constant percolating synth patterns. Lyrics are nothing special I admit.

Enoki Doki (Paul in Santa Cruz), Friday, 12 February 2010 16:44 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost again -- I guess you're right, #1 vote/s seems to be a blank that can be filled in, but isn't, wrt the past couple of albums...

Enoki Doki (Paul in Santa Cruz), Friday, 12 February 2010 16:46 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah you're right, if there's no number preceeding it then there were no #1s, I'll remove those for the rest

A terrific introduction to a hitherto little-known artist.

Begone dull care was probably the biggest disappointment of 2009 for me; idk, both production and melody wise, it just seemed totally flat. Though not as flat and boring as royksopp have always been and still are. Omar-s on the other hand, was just sleek and perfect; don't think I voted for it but it would have been one of the 2-3 I had to ditch at the last minute

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 12 February 2010 17:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Mungolian Jet Set another of my votes.

Freddy 'The Wonder Chicken' (Gukbe), Friday, 12 February 2010 17:38 (fourteen years ago) link

mungolian jetset album is fun & funny and pretty heady

ha, and i was hoping it would place higher

hurray for mungolian jetset! that is a truly odd album, pretty cool that it placed so high

psychgawsple, Friday, 12 February 2010 19:33 (fourteen years ago) link

this list is really bizarre, but not really in a bad way i guess

dig that lily allen album, didn't vote for it tho

my #3 iirc (dam-funk) - felt weird voting for the whole 2 & 1/2 hours of that thing but it's so glorious and layered and complex, really glad i came across it

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:12 (fourteen years ago) link

er, i want to thank him for stepping into my life

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:12 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah this is a really good album.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:14 (fourteen years ago) link

ha, kev

also there is no such thing as too much dam-funk -- complaining about the length of it is really on some pedant technical shit, i think it's awesome that there's two hours of it

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:16 (fourteen years ago) link

"hey, too much sunshine! what is all this!?"

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:16 (fourteen years ago) link

streaming now and this is actually pretty cool.

hey i wasn't complaining, i love it and wish there was more!

anyway what i love is how my favorite EP or whatever you want to call it changed all the time - i really fell in love with the proggier part 2 first, then got into the super wonky and angular part 1, then couldnt get enough of the early prince-ish part 3

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:19 (fourteen years ago) link

I'd probably like the Dâm-Funk but the rest of the poll seems to be the year electrodribble hit big.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:20 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah kev i wasn't referring to you

yeah the fact that he released it as EPs kinda deflates the "2.5 hours" argument bcuz it's not like you don't have places to start

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:21 (fourteen years ago) link

Electrodribble's revenge.

xpost

ElectrodribPOLL.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:23 (fourteen years ago) link

what constitutes "electrodribble"? anything with a keyboard?

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Friday, 12 February 2010 20:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Tim's comments last year:

I think people are expanding this too much. "Indie-Friendly Electrodribble" seems to imply an element of tweeness and softness.

Postal Service and Max Tundra and The Avalanches yes, Blechdom no.

(Yes I can see how Blechdom/Tigerbeat 6 are arguably twee but it's of a different stripe I think)

Like, Peaches are the paradigmatic example for me of the electronic act people who feel uncomfortable with actual dance music still check for all the time (i hang out with too many gays/lesbians though, maybe this is why) - but I wouldn't describe her as "electrodribble".
