I love this Mountain Goats album - it was the one that converted me from an admirer to a fan. The production on this is top notch, and J0hn's control of his voice has only improved with time. The most played album in my house the last few months.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 11 February 2010 21:44 (sixteen years ago)

it was a bit outside my top 20 but def a good album and worthy choice

call all destroyer, Thursday, 11 February 2010 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 11 February 2010 22:03 (sixteen years ago)

makes me think all pop albums should be 8 songs long; it's such a perfect stream of bangers

united arab amirites (samosa gibreel), Thursday, 11 February 2010 22:12 (sixteen years ago)

Likewise.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 11 February 2010 22:13 (sixteen years ago)

it was pretty weird how they released 'the fame monster' i guess they were in an equally envious/unenvious position

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 11 February 2010 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

nothin i voted for yet

plaxico (I know, right?), Thursday, 11 February 2010 22:23 (sixteen years ago)

I think The Mountain Goats might be the only thing on my ballot that will show up.

i did not vote for the fame monster but i really like it, or the first four songs at least. literally just played my personalized mini-EP

xps

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Thursday, 11 February 2010 22:53 (sixteen years ago)

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 11 February 2010 22:54 (sixteen years ago)

the mariah album is like a shower of feathers

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 11 February 2010 22:54 (sixteen years ago)

zvookster, Thursday, 11 February 2010 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

everytime i think the results cant get worse ILM reaches a new low.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

Nothing useful to say here.

Is it me or is that album title as wonky as hell?

We should have called Suzie and Bobby (NickB), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

Nobody looks that high on the cover to notice

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:18 (sixteen years ago)

Mariah's always been wonky!

GRIZZLY! GRRR! GRRR! So Indie Entertaaaaiiiinmeeent! (The Reverend), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:19 (sixteen years ago)

People just voting for anything Terius related, and this one's grasping at straws.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, pretty much. I reserved my votes for his two more deserving projects.

so much worse than 08.

wow i really didn't expect mariah to place - very happy it did - i don't think either emancipation or e=mc2 did, and they were both much more commercial, immediate, pop-friendly affairs, whereas this one may as well be subtitled "strictly for mariah fans". maybe the-dream's involvement pulled some on board? i think it's a really great, satisfying album; mariah's ability to deliver real talk seems to be oddly correlated to her willingness to deliver self-parody; almost as if the more of a cartoon of herself she is, the more intimate and honest she sounds. also, she's fucking funny throughout, and the-dream coming over all restrained and velvet-pillows-of-layered-vocals on us is very effective. "shower of feathers" about covers it.

jj - was disappointed by, there's wispy, drifting balearica that compels you to return to it (meanderthals) and then there's wispy balearica that drifts through you completely. b'ring.

gave neko case a good try as i really love her voice, if not always her songs, but nothing stuck with me; it's not a patch on blacklisted imo. still, great voice.

um, Mariah is fucking awesome, losers.

autotuna fish (Tape Store), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

nb i am not going to defend the mariah album cover

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

Hopefully some good stuff to come. Last year I discovered a few really good albums I hadnt heard because of the poll and quite a few things I liked charted too. But Baroness & Neko Case are the only ones so far.

Mind you, some peoples worst poll results are someones best poll ever.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:24 (sixteen years ago)

People just voting for anything Terius related, and this one's grasping at straws.

bullshit, some of us were voting for mariah albums way before she met terius - and yes she is and always has been awesome, LOSERS

Hey, I liked her two previous albums, but a spade is a spade.

that neko placing is just about right - it's a nice album but really drags toward the end. def support her though

pleased that mariah placed and look forward to more people who don't listen to r&b commenting negatively on it

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:33 (sixteen years ago)

rev not included obv

fucking chatty cathy doll of an album

da Condom FATHER (some dude), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:38 (sixteen years ago)

yeah you know mariah would probably take that as a pretty high compliment

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:40 (sixteen years ago)

love the album but don't really share the love for that line

my favorite by far is "ribbon", then "obsessed" and "more than just friends"

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

That one line is some next level humpty dumpty shit imo

We should have called Suzie and Bobby (NickB), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

I think that's kind of the point.

GRIZZLY! GRRR! GRRR! So Indie Entertaaaaiiiinmeeent! (The Reverend), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:43 (sixteen years ago)

my favourites are "ribbon" and "the impossible", but i think "betcha gon know" and "up out my face" are more likely to find favour with mariah novices

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:44 (sixteen years ago)

"the impossible" is basically on a par with "you don't know what love is" and dâm-funk's album for space-age pimp vox ~vibesing out~~~~

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:44 (sixteen years ago)

ha i wouldn't recommend "betcha gon know" to anyone other than a terius stan - al's "the-dream karaoke" is otm about that song

still love it obv

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:45 (sixteen years ago)

oh ok go on then

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:45 (sixteen years ago)

yeah "the impossible" was an early dud but i really warmed to it

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:46 (sixteen years ago)

I love 'Obsessed' with a passion.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:55 (sixteen years ago)

did 'Obsessed' drop too early to place in any of the '09 singles polls, bcz its absence was pretty glaring....
