Just to clarify, this may be why *some* folks hate on Grizzly Bear but personally, it's not a "kneejerk" reaction -- I've heard each of their albums as they've come out (gave them a big chance from the start due to the Warp Records association) and I just haven't enjoyed 'em at all -- not kneejerk. It's not an "anti-corny" thing, either -- "corny" is one of the last ways I'd describe GB, if anything they are guilty of being overly serious and boring. And it's not an "indie fux" thing -- I like plenty of stuff that can be classified as "indie," including YYYs and AnCo, two fellow GAPDY bands. Basically I just don't like GB. At all.

thread needs less bitching about grizzly bear, more bitching about girls and more talk of the grandfather paradox in general. regardless of the 'preachy' aspect of the mix (which has been overstated on ilx imo) this is a well-mixed, amazing collection of music. thooo i think i might like the unmixed collection even better- for some reason there are great tracks that appear on one disc and not the other?

grizzly bear is OKAY but pretty much just OKAY based on the two albums i heard. not sure i see why i should care more than i do which means you don't get near my top hundred.

have barely heard much by any of the GAPDY bands but G is i guess the most meat and potatoes indie rock band of the bunch, right? no crazy noise or dance beats or synths or whatever to redeem them as 'forward-thinking' or 'eclectic' or w/e? i always figured that's why they were the easy target out of the bunch.

I agree, most conventional in terms of g/b/d format, but not in the way the songs are structured, which I think is very complex, certainly more than Phoenix or Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Also more sedate and somber, which I think puts some people off.

I think I was the person who nom'd Fall Out Boy and obv I voted for it. I bought the album in January 2009. I guess I'm dated given so many people already hated the album in December 2008.

yeah, i did enjoy the grandfather paradox, but it did seem that angle got it a lot more attention compared to say, dixon's own temporary secretary mix, which i thought was way superior

It got more attention because it had Heinrik Schwarz's name on it, that probably helped. He looms pretty large over Innervisions.

grandfather paradox didn't really do much for me to begin with cos i was trying to listen to it like a dance mix, which it isn't, but over the year it impressed me more and more with the way it builds and sustains a mood and just the seamless seamless flow of it. it became my default hangover music for a while - high praise imo.

I just got this... its lovely so far.

I'm not a Grizzly hater, it's just whenever I've sat down to listen to an album it's been so washy and dull. There literally isn't anythign going on. It's hard to have an opinion on something that just goes straight over my head. The first Gullemots, save maybe two tracks, was like this as well.

'Washy and dull' is a better fit for Yellow House than it is for Veckatimest imo, cos that was my initial response to it. But then I noticed how the songs were all pulled taut in strange places like beds made wrong, and then it started having this weird fascination for me. Veckatimest was a lot more instant for me.

The low positioning of both Grizzly Bear and Girls gives me some hope that Merriweather Post Pavilion won't actually be number one here.

Hey remember last year when the Fleet Foxes came up and everyone was all 'oi, Grizzly Bear are so much better'?

Not sure how much of an intersect there is between Girls fans and Animal Collectors.

I can see the Electrik Red album going top three, possibly the Yeah Yeah Yeahs as well.

Is that Electrik Red album really that popular? I know it's got its boosters (Hi Lex) but I thought it was a little under the radar to poll so highly. Fevr Ray, yup, must admit that slipped my mind.

It only takes five or so people to vote something really highly for it to hit really high in one of these - the Electrik Red thread is pretty long and the people who like that album really love it. That said there might be some vote splitting as a result of the Dream album.
