I've heard it and, well...better to say nothing than to say etc.

I should've voted for Stars of the Lid, actually! I think that came out in 2008 also.

Tough to analyze something when it's hard enough to tolerate it once through and listen in any sort of receptive, analytical manner.

oh come on, it's radio-friendly pop-rock, not the outer edge of taste.

lords of hyrule (c sharp major), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 23:03 (fourteen years ago) link

i can understand not digging it if you don't value big vocal hooks in your rock music... but that's about it

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 10 February 2010 23:04 (fourteen years ago) link

btw, radio-friendly pop-rock is the outer edges of taste in a lot of places (the internet)

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 10 February 2010 23:04 (fourteen years ago) link

I like plenty of radio-friendly stuff, I just don't care for Fall Out Boy and this album is no different. Perhaps I don't value big vocal hooks in my rock music...in fact, overall, I'd say that's a fair estimation.

jesus how many posts are u gonna repeat "it's shit" for

zvookster, Wednesday, 10 February 2010 23:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Okay, I get that it was a late-2008 release, but Folie a Deux probably shouldn't have even been elligible. 3/4 of its singles came out in 2008, and the fourth one was negligible. Did Fall Out Boy really make some kind of an impact in 2009?

this strikes me as bein all 'wheres obamas birth certificate?'

it only finished 45th ffs chill out, everybody

or maybe just 2009

i was surprised that the album was nom'd but i love it so much that i didn't really care -- same for the t. swift album which is gonna place too

modern rock is like the last bastion of generally popular genre that indie crowds just won't fuck with

even ignoring yr susan boyles or whatever, this hasn't been true in my experience.

xpostin' - w/ pitchfork era indie there's so little commonground w/ poprock that the narcissism of small differences thing falls away a bit. the genre indie ppl hate on most might just be "bad indie"

i like the KOL singles off their last album, i haven't heard latter day foo fighters

the FOB album (the last two) are much more invigorating than all other modern rock tho & also much more diverse (soul, hair metal, some funk licks, productions by babyface & pharrell etc)

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 10 February 2010 23:17 (fourteen years ago) link

i used to dig kings of leon circa 'youth & young manhood' but havent liked anything ive hears since and think that may'ev aged badly

never listened 2 later foos

"sex on fire" is def my least favorite one, but i really don't mind it. if you meet it on its own terms it's no different than, like, mgmt. "use somebody" is way better tho

I see the comparison, since both bands belong in the garbage bin.

Glad to see Grizzly Bear so low, too.

Musically, can you post something good so I can stop coming off like the biggest hater of all music ever made? Thanks! :D

I think the blonde guy was the delivery guy in the "Money For Nothing" video.

yeah 'youth & young manhood' is dope

glad I'm not the only person who feels that way

I heard "Sex on Fire" a couple of weeks ago over the speakers in the middle of a trade show without realising what it was, and it was kindof awesome. I doubt that would translate well to me having it on my iPod and actually listening to it, but really it could be a whole lot worse.
