If DMB are POP then half of ILX will start to like them. I bet the Dave Matthews solo album sounds just like DMB without the wanky jams. Which presumably may make it more 'pop'? Will DMB fans (especially the 'jocks') like that?

It's no question that the music has gotten progressively more pop-ish(i.e. simple riffs and lackluster lyrics) through recent years, but I think you can attribute that to his change from party boy to mature father. That's understandable...but I really hope he changes it up a little for the solo stuff.

all the write ups i see keep saying stuff like "this will displease his fan base" and "it's worlds away from the DMB stuff". which, is good, and i'll give it a listen, but, i fear it'll be a bit too introspective...
supposedly, it's almost all acoustic and very "pared down".
that's all here-say and conjecture at this point.

That's all subjective to which "DMB stuff" it's different from. I know I'm all for hearing something atypical and innovative from him. I'm know he CAN do it because he's done it before...but I'm still curious to find it out if he'll venture from the predictable structure that they've adapted with the past 2 albums.
All you can do then is listen. The worst that can happen is you don't like it.

okay first of this is the dumbest thing i've ever heard! stop generalizing! he isn't only good for one audience, im a huge DMB fan and I not only listen to him but metal, jazz, funk, punk, alternative ect. and I most certainly do not where a suit to work everyday because I am a musician, all of that band is very talented and have worked hard to get where they are, also dave is a great lyric writer, his love songs are awesome, and there are alot of other songs, other then crash that someone had mentioned about, that have great meaning to them, just because you think hes voice isn't that great doesn't mean you can take away from the musical talent of the band, also to get to the point of killing someone because you don't like their music is absolutely insane! grow the hell up, just because you don't like them doesn't mean that people who do are stupid to listen to them.

They've been posting clips from the solo album on the official website, and I must say that so far I'm liking it a lot more than the last two. Recently, his choices of singles haven't properly denoted their collecive sound, nor have they really been any good. Gravedigger (the solo single) sounds like it could put an end to their slump, though it is a bit banal...to say the least. Just check it out, you might like the new sound.

They're music fans. Its perfectly clear they dont like to diss something they havent heard. They want to diss it , so they have to hear it 1st. But some of them may actually like it if they give it a chance. Even if it is just 1 or 2 people.

this thread is sort of a weird inverse isnt it? isnt it more typical that fans of underground and/or less popular music are trying to convince fans of popular music that techno/disco/jazz/classical/punk, etc., dont suck? i guess this was abvious all along, but for some reason, it has me laughing today.

I've heard the new version of "Gravedigger" many times; I was thinking about starting a thread on it. It's okay. The thing that struck me most was the orchestration in the last part of it, and how much the arrangement reminded me of Metallica's S&M album. Otherwise I'd say it's got more of a straight-ahead rock structure than his stuff with the band. I've heard a few other songs on the album but don't remember them very well. (ask me on chat about the circumstances; far to name-droppery to mention here, haha.)

I'm really trying to comprehend the use of the apostrophe here.

Ignoring its being misplaced in a proper name (last name is Matthews, correct?) .. Did this person intend to write:
"The band that is Dave Matthews's (band) is an extrordinary (one.)"

Or is it just another dumbshit DMB fan that doesn't know how to use punctuation?

I actually tried downloading some Dafe Mettews Bend today - just out of curiousity, like. Anyway, Soulseek crashed my computer twice when I tried searching for DMB on it, and when I tried again just now the whole bloody server went down.
