BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 7 February 2010 18:56 (sixteen years ago)

^^^ featuring "Hedgehog, Sonic The" and all manner of other sluggish Young Money mediocrity. Dunno if this got mentioned already but the next lines after the Sonic thing are:

So could you pass me the keys to the Tonica
I mean Tonka, That's the truck bitches
Fuck you and fuck all of you fuck bitches

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 7 February 2010 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

somebody actually did the wrist so chilly it's spicy, didn't they? gucci?

always thought that line was pretty obviously like, killing time in bed, wasting the day away fuckin etc

Robert Altbro (some dude), Sunday, 7 February 2010 20:18 (sixteen years ago)

Lines from the new Ludacris single, "My Chick is Bad":

"Couple girlfriends and they all a lil' crazy / comin' down the street like a parade... MACY'S"

and the amazing

"I fill 'er up... BALLOONS!"

then, from guest Nicki Minaj,

"It's going down... BASEMENT!"

Shannon Whirry and the Bad Brains, Thursday, 11 February 2010 11:06 (sixteen years ago)

Nicky Minaj seems to be making an aggressive bid for media saturation - I saw yesterday that she has a video with Mariah Carey. We could be thrilling to "Hedgehog, Sonic the" followups for years to come!

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 11 February 2010 14:00 (sixteen years ago)

this thread was really funny but just with the rap music i'd been listening to lately i hadn't heard many of these kind of these "I keep her running back and forth...SOCCER TEAM!!!" type lines but i was just listening to some recent juelz santana track and it had the line "still making money off the white girl ... FERGIE!"

Just awful.

DJ Get Up Kids (jim in glasgow), Monday, 15 February 2010 00:37 (sixteen years ago)

that one is actually funny

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 00:43 (sixteen years ago)

haha totally

the cold bieber open (some dude), Monday, 15 February 2010 00:46 (sixteen years ago)

i think i just can't help but find that construction lame. Like if there were a few extra words instead of the ellipsis i'd be happy for whatever reason.

DJ Get Up Kids (jim in glasgow), Monday, 15 February 2010 00:48 (sixteen years ago)

oh no the construction is totally lame and hacky...but the fergie line is still a really good use of it and pretty sharp for a hack of juelz's magnitude

the cold bieber open (some dude), Monday, 15 February 2010 00:52 (sixteen years ago)

there's a good jae millz one on "new shit"

young money wolverines bitch... NO MICHIGAN

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:05 (sixteen years ago)

that looks awful

ever since this thread ive been paying more attention to this construction and it's way more prevalent than i thought it was

xp

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:09 (sixteen years ago)

this song features Wayne saying "I been runnin' this shit...BLISTERS!!" and "I know the game...ANALYST!!!"

these to me are the worst to date that don't even have grocery bag-style unintentional entertainment value

the cold bieber open (some dude), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:11 (sixteen years ago)

yeah but even with rappers i like too. i mean it's not surprising, it's just one of those things you notice a lot more when you're listening for it. i know i'm not stating anything we don't all agree with but it's a godawful trend

xp

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:11 (sixteen years ago)

i dont think gucci does it a lot tho

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:12 (sixteen years ago)

yeah "4 my town" is awful

i can't think of an example of gucci doing this

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:13 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think it's the construction so much as the particularly lazy use young money make of it that amuses/annoys. that juelz santana single w/the fergie line is really excellent (it's the one on yelawolf's mixtape right?) and that's a good line anyway. i really like the luda/minaj single too, and am v much pro-minaj saturation.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:13 (sixteen years ago)

tyga on "roger that" (next single iirc)

oh i'm not even talking about the lame phrase-pause-punchline, even relying on similes in every other line grates on me

i think it's referring to sosa (& mcgwire) hitting a billion homers and revitalizing baseball

i would like to point out that this was otm

i mean - people acting like 'no ceilings' isn't lazy & contemptible dogshit aren't too far off from thinking that there is dope wordplay in 'bedrock'

no

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Monday, 15 February 2010 04:41 (sixteen years ago)

anyway kevin isn't totally wrong -- the problem isn't the simile-simile style it's just that there haven't been many very good punchline rappers in forever, which is why like fabolous was the second most successful east coast rapper of the 2000s aside from jay-z

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 04:46 (sixteen years ago)

and which is why when ny-centric rap heads & press throw their weight behind people like papoose and saigon and juelz satnana and lloyd banks the rest of the country rolls their damn eyes

You know as much as you guys make fun of Slaughterhouse, those guys are basically just good punchline rappers

oh, wrinkle... pause (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 15 February 2010 04:48 (sixteen years ago)

i didn't listen to the slaughterhouse record but i can confirm that joe budden is about as far from a "good" punchline rapper as can be possible with someone who has any sort of talent
