new Autechre album - Quaristice (early 2008)

Also LOLs at "their own music is scrambled and mashed-up beyond recognition. Vaguely danceable rhythms are suddenly destroyed by sonic screeches" coz everyone there was wanting the straight four to the floor of their last few LPs I guess.

ah but live cough idm cough, even ae, always has been more four to the floor and danceable than the records (which always led me to wonder exactly what records they were playing and how could i get them. never did figure it out.)

Support from Rob Hall (standard IDM dj set, see above) and SND, who played... just beats. No melodies. Virtually devoid of interesting rhythms, even. It reminded me of the standard complaints about ae - cold, abstract - but this lacked any of their complexity, it was totally transparent. Didn't do it for me at all.

A good gig I think - I was entirely sober and yet completely lost track of time - seemed to last about five minutes, and I don't think I fell asleep. The wall of bass did get a bit much at times - submerged almost everything else. And yes, quite chilly. And a lot of people there could have done with a more recent bath or change of clothes.

Err I was just listening to this morning's Today programme coverage of the US elections, and then Autechre came on afterwards!

no wai! i set my alarm for an hour later 'cause i needed a bit more sleep after the gig, or i'd have heard that, and probably would have freaked me right out. now i'll have to install realplayer, hmph.

xp. well maybe not four to the floor as such, but more consistent and more danceable. imho i guess.

The .ram file isn't actually what was broadcast, it's an extended version of the interview - the bit on the radio was shorter but had vox pops from last night etc.

There was a fair bit to get down to when I saw them circa the last album, and the new one has some straight passages of electro-y stuff that I don't think people could consider onjectionably undanceable. Also not being a dick but I can't think of when Dave Simpson has ever expressed an interest in dance music (but I don't maintain davesimpson.xls or owt)

The first part of that extended version is awful, just clueless and irrelevant questions. She can't even pronounce the album names right!

2nd half gets more interesting.

Some ppl in GB got their ltd. ed metal box thingy! They're having trouble opening it! (lol) Maybe it's in my mail box at home! (next week probably, since I'm in Belgium)

I liked bits of the limited edition CD all right, some of the pieces sound better when allowed to wander all over the place to their natural improv endings instead of being clipped off. but there's a lot of overlap & the obvious point of this whole casually-edited pile-of-tracks project is to force us to do our own editing

this band has always made such beautiful albums that I love listening to all the way through, but I shouldn't have even bothered with the physical version of this one, it's inherently an ipod project

Yeah, I'm listening to the new remixes most too. Track 3 very very dark. A poster noted on WATMM that the first track PLC ccc is a chopped and screwed version of the Quaristice track.

Unfortunately most of the other posters there are sulking that they are not getting a live soundboard recording that they feel they as fans are entitled to, and as a result trashing this release in a fit of pique. Knobbers.

I like that... insidious. I could usually hang with the dissonant nervous freaky shit from the last couple of records that would clear out any room, but this is different than that. It's oogy. It makes me feel unwell.

That's praise, btw.

This almost seems like too many tracks to deal with. Tracing sonic similarities, trying to figure out likes and dislikes... I feel like I'm studying for an exam.

But yes, more like Perlence Suns plz.

I also <3 <3 <3 Altichyre off Versions, that is some seriously affecting minimalism.
