re: lightnin' hopkins - i know who he is, i meant "like" vs. "light" as the word immediately preceding. 'like' makes sense, 'light' is erykah's lyric sheet.

Alex in Montreal, Sunday, 7 February 2010 13:43 (sixteen years ago)

Good tune.

New version of the flash vid: http://erykahbadu.com/

queen frostine (Eric H.), Friday, 12 February 2010 23:56 (sixteen years ago)

I like me some Erykah Badu but I gotta confess her vocals on her live version of James Taylor's "You've Got a Friend" last night in Dallas at the NBA Allstar weekend were kinda weak. Plus my son and his cousins were giggling about her hat.

The acoustic bass is great and I think her vocals get better as the song goes along

curmudgeon, Sunday, 14 February 2010 21:27 (sixteen years ago)

i have "jump up in the air and stay there" written on a piece of paper and taped to inside of my bedroom door -- i find it to be a very inspiring sentiment

the video confirms my belief that brain-fried, chronic mispronouncing wayne is totally perfect for the song

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 14 February 2010 21:30 (sixteen years ago)

"window seat" >>>>> "jump up in the air and stay there" - i really hope the album resembles the former more than the latter

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Sunday, 14 February 2010 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

would it be so hard for lil wayne just to write out a coherent rap instead making up some bs on the spot

This. (Though, from what Matos told me, it's much more in the vein of the former, and the latter is being left off because it would be way out of place and wouldn't even work as a coda in the way "Honey" did.)

The Reverend, Sunday, 14 February 2010 22:47 (sixteen years ago)

Gotta admit, "Jump" has definitely gotten quite a few more plays on my iTunes.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:08 (sixteen years ago)

yes! does matos like it?

xp

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:08 (sixteen years ago)

well it's been out longer, eric

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:09 (sixteen years ago)

You're right. I'll just admit, then, that "Jump" > "Window" ... for me.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:10 (sixteen years ago)

I really really do love Mama's Gun-type stuff, tho. It's just stuff I have to be way more in the mood for.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:11 (sixteen years ago)

I heard it Wed night. It's GREAT.

It's less wild-ass than the first one; it ranges pretty widely while staying pretty resolutely R&B. Kind of Mama's Gun refracted through Pt. 1. Lots of piano and bass, a good amount of studio treatment but super approachable--the old fans who lost her w/Pt. 1 will like this a lot, I think. Last few songs get really torchy. A lyric that stood out: "I'm on my front porch rockin'/Like Lightnin' Hopkins." I think the above-linked preview says it well.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 15 February 2010 01:18 (sixteen years ago)

jump up in the air has gotten progressively more jawdropping with repeated plays. it's pretty raw psych funk. wayne's wasted verse works but doesn't really add anything of value

ramadaan muhammad asalaamica rasoul allah supana watallah (jk), Monday, 15 February 2010 02:20 (sixteen years ago)

Love the fact that the metallic reverb from "Hydraulic Pump" only surfaces a couple times during the track.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Monday, 15 February 2010 02:31 (sixteen years ago)

i cannot wait.

ha! (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 15 February 2010 20:35 (sixteen years ago)

bit late but i love the "jump up in the air" video

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 15 February 2010 21:06 (sixteen years ago)

i <3 how they stop the kaleidoscope madness right when wayne pops up and says "bee-low" & makes some weird crooked face

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 21:07 (sixteen years ago)

exactly

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 16 February 2010 06:16 (sixteen years ago)

I have "Jump Up" stuck in my head a lot btw.
