i understand what you see in all these bay guys -- they come off as very 'real' & 'normal' and that certainly improves their aesthetic as street kingpin types in the way that rick ross is make believe -- but you have to understand how they can also fall on the other side of that line which = "boring"

i dont think j stalin is boring at all. personality, flow, the professionalism of his rap style i just like a lot more

lyrically yelawolf is more of a lyrically lyrical cat, stalin gets straight to the point, but i dont at all in any way think stalin is boring at all ... hes a standout from his scene, not typical of it

i mean ive heard you defend way more generic rappers than stalin before!

i think there is more vitality to stalin's music whereas the jacka is like someone's uncle rapping

well i certainly have yeah, and i don't dislike stalin but his particular rapping aesthetic is less catnip for me

i don't really think there's any cohesive style, it just so happens that the few that get posted i here are pretty laid back

berner sounds like an idiot. i kind of like him in a condescending doesnt-know-how-to-rap way though. his emphasis is weird. Its Like He Starts Every Word Like The Beginning Of A Sentence.

tbh i dont much love yelawolf. his album is cool & solid in a well-constructed way, i just dont think hes saying much as a rapper

i disagree that he's not saying anything interesting (what exactly is j stalin saying as a rapper), but even if he wasn't he technically creative & the production on that tape is dope as hell, just totally inventive & different than the other bama rap. even the vocal sampling on "lick the cat" (best nasty rap song i've heard this year) and "fuck you" sound fresh to me, and then he just rips normal boom-bap stuff like that joint w raekwon.

also he's an affecting singer

and, for the record i think yelawolf is a more exciting rapper in some ways than stalin, but i think the best of stalin's stuff has a great atmosphere and the sorta menacing tangerine dream thing is way more distinctive production than anything on yelawolf

i think how most rappers have "weed carries", budden has guys who do shifts watching cnn/refreshing cnn.com so he can make sure to date his songs as horribly as possible
