well about the last word i would use for the xx would be 'insecure', but i understand how people could feel the opposite way of me in terms of the statue thing -- i enjoyed fever ray too and don't think she merits three of the fifty tracks

big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:18 (sixteen years ago)

I didn't say insecure. I think they have fairly large egos actually. I just said insincere. Seems like a total put on. (talking about the xx)

Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:20 (sixteen years ago)

oh my bad. ok.

big hoos state of mind (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:22 (sixteen years ago)

I've seen them live and wasn't impressed. Lots of similar note plucking. Zero energy. Not that GB have much to offer in that department on stage, however I will say their musicianship , particularly the drummer and Daniel Rossen, left me completely impressed. Maybe I need to see the XX again, but when I saw them they seemed a bit smug, bored and droll

Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:24 (sixteen years ago)

if it makes you guys feel better i dislike both

a place to bury st edmunds (electricsound), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:31 (sixteen years ago)

into you either way. Like how you aren't into both bands. Makes me want to get to know you more

Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:34 (sixteen years ago)

Oh schmindie troll, don't you think we've encountered your kind long before now?

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 08:49 (sixteen years ago)

am I schmindie? :D THANX!!!

Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:21 (sixteen years ago)

Mr. Fever, who's the collective "we", the embittered washed up music critics that haunt this site day in and day out? Or is this just a case of the "royal we", in which case you are fully forgiven sir

Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:24 (sixteen years ago)

Handy tip: try not being a dick to everybody else on the site and then maybe they won't be dicks to you.

Yours, on behalf of all the embittered washed up music critics

Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:34 (sixteen years ago)

I didn't star the "I hate them both" comment above. Having a convo with someone else and someone chimed in with a useful "guess what? I think they both suck" comment....

Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:38 (sixteen years ago)

Well don't rise to it, and don't lash out at the entire site. If you start quarrelling with everyone who makes a comment you don't like, this isn't going to be much fun.

Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:40 (sixteen years ago)

It never really was THAT much fun to begin with....While I appreciate the advice, someone needs to call a spade a spade, otherwise we just go around in solipsistic circles circle jerking and commending one another's obscure/simultaneously majorly mainstream music tastes, no?

Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:42 (sixteen years ago)

INDIE=BAD

GAGA/PAISLEY/MAINSTREAM=GOOD

DRONE/METAL/RANDOMNOISE=GOOD

INDIE=I hate that guy I see every morning at the coffee shop, he pisses me off.

Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 09:43 (sixteen years ago)

Fine. Blow a gasket defending Grizzly Bear if you like. Fight the good fight for poor misunderstood indie bands everywhere.

Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 10:00 (sixteen years ago)

they are boring as fuck but as long as animals keep on collecting we need to not let ourselves get distracted and fight the real enemy imo

Not blowing anything.

Someone tomorrow will have something even more dismissive to say to "take me down a notch"---ultimately though, how is anything I said any more/less bitchy than 99 percent of the shit posted on this board?

am I villainized for being a bitch? liking grizzly bear? not being a music critic? defending indie? being contrary? or just being "bloodless"....someone tomorrow will surely tell me why I suck and I'm looking forward to it.

Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 10:04 (sixteen years ago)

people are saying that grizzly bear and animal collective suck, not you

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 10:07 (sixteen years ago)

Was talking to bro who called me a "dick", which is sort of the same as "sucking"---do you have a last.fm lex? I'd love to see it

Emily's Cheese, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 10:08 (sixteen years ago)

i think that was after you said someone was trying to look cool? which wasn't v nice

GrizzBear mostly a snoozefest, but 'Two Weeks' is unfuckwithable. Same goes for AnCo's 'My Girls', but the rest of their catalogue is larger and far more annoying, so yes they need to be destroyed first.

Freddy 'The Wonder Chicken' (Gukbe), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 13:20 (sixteen years ago)

one thing i like abt anco is the sprawl of what they've produced and all the ideas picked up toyed with and tossed back on the pile.

plaxico (I know, right?), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 13:26 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i like things

plaxico (I know, right?), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 13:34 (sixteen years ago)

i just think its a shame that the best parts of their career are being overshadowed by the post strawberry jam stuff

plaxico (I know, right?), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 13:35 (sixteen years ago)

You know, I kind of respect AnCo for doing new things, which I would never accuse the Grizz of, they just happen to do new things that make my blood boil.

She Wants Revenge is still a thing?

If it wasn't for that (Manners 10th Anniversary) thing, I'd have assumed that was a genuine 2009 fest line-up.

There's hardly anyone kicking out AC in the - I'm guessing mostly American - replies. Phoenix is all time, DP is p good still, never cared for Grizzly Bear.

Monte Scampino (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 3 September 2020 14:47 (five years ago)

To me the Dirty Projectors & Grizzly Bear albums are unimpeachable classics. AC is eh and hasn't aged well, never got into Phoenix.

Also DP & GB released their best albums within the last 3 years, still going strong.
