i think the "94 Ho Draft" skit that's recurring throughout is a little strained but worth including.

Oh yeah "Tell Me Why"! I'd put that in the "Fearless" / "Fifteen" / "Tell Me Why" block. Chorus is excellent, yes.

it took me ages to even get to the second half of fearless because i had to play the first half on loop so much - it's just as strong though, i think i'd only drop "change"

Re "Tell Me Why", my favourite bit is the chorus where she sings "So here's to you and your temper - yes, I remember what you said last night!" Which simultaneously sounds totally spontaneous and in-conversation while also being so composed that it flows perfectly.

There's a lot I like about Taylor but the first two things that come to mind is her fluency in the songwriting; everything is always done with such spectacular craftsmanship and pride in work. It's like when you see an antique chair from the 1890's and it's all handmade and properly planed and the joints are perfect.
I'm also always blown away by her ability to make everything sound honest and personal. plenty of singing is acting (MJ sure hadn't had a love that he wanted back that bad at that age) and Taylor's a great actor.

I am mad impressed with her songwriting ability, to restate a positive thing I've said about her before that gets lost in the kerfluffle of how much I dislike her singing.

tim and forks otm - i also love how she knows exactly when to raise the drama stakes and when to underplay a situation, so "i don't know how it gets better than this" is a perfect rush of joy on the title track, but then on "breathe" she just casually shrugs "people are people and sometimes we change our minds", and it's just devastating.

I think "Forever & Always" is often my favourite because of the zinginess of "...you said you loved me - WERE YOU JUST KIDDING?"

i'm so glad that the one vote i used on a deep album cut paid off. i mean in all honesty "fancy" is prob song of the year.

apparently on youtube it's really frustrating because it cuts off just after the huge chord change segueing into "right side of my brain" - so get the album, folks.

as for the other two...i can hear why someone might like "1901" but not why anyone would get, like, really excited over it.

i'm really sick of BEPs as a group, none of their big hits this year were particularly special (though the others were at least ok), i really want another fergie solo album - that's where she and will.i.am had their best ideas. (i don't credit the other two w/having ideas.) i still have no idea why the "mazel tov" bit in this song is meant to be funny or entertaining.

yeah, when the drums come in at the end of Fancy it's FUCKING MASSIVE. by holding off on a beat for 90% of the song, the payoff when it finally drops is that much greater.
