i like it cause it's got a great floating quality and is great to listen to while biking, but in the context of dubstep i believe hyph mngo is a welcome step towards the effeminate and delicate in a genre that tends to be dominated by ugly bass riffs and the like.

is that the last one for today?

btw everyone joy orbison the dude is fine as hell

otm - plus this branch of dubstep (more feminine, melodic, more open to house/techno/r&b) really developed strongly this year (guido and darkstar elsehwre in the poll, plus a host of others), and joy orbison was definitely the critical poster boy of the genre.

honestly no idea if any of my actual votes will place now - reasonably confident in one of them, but it'd be a really nice surprise if any more r&b singles or female mc-driven funky/dancehall trax came up

I haven't sent any ballots back yet, I'll try to do them all tonight...

hyphy mango is fine but it is not the homerun of some of the joker/guido tracks. I even liked BEBA better. Can't hate on it though.

and i think cold or bad habits are both a little better than pretty wings, but not complaining.

if theyre both somewhere in the dubstep spectrum (i'm really not up on this stuff) i like the guido track much much more than hyph mngo

dont think any of my votes r gonna place now which is weird bc i voted a lot of ilmfaves i thought but persp i guess

none of the youtube versions I've seen of Hyph Mngo include the slow build up at the beginning, with the banging sounds and distant crowd noises. It's that build up, with the successive sustained two-chord announcement, ecstatic vocals, and great bassline/percussion coming in one after the other that make this track such a rush for me

Does Digidesign have any sort of traction here?

I think we'd better prepare to be disappointed how much consensus there is among P&J, Pfork, etc. and our poll. Groupthink is a very powerful thing and unfortunately, I can't see any of those first 9 tracks going top 10-20 in P&J/Pfork and then missing the top 50 of an ILM voter set that pays pretty consistent attention to those sites/polls, even if it's under the guise of bitching about them more often than not.

i'm still amazed that the dirty projectors somehow became a consensus indie band, i kind of ignored them for a few years after mildly liking the "getty address" album despite its lack of traditional pop hooks or anything catchy that would suggest a breakout album to come

"Digidesign" was on my ballot but it's not gonna place here. "Hyph Mngo" is pretty much the cutoff point for all things dubstep in 2009 polls, unfortunately.

i don't know about 'two weeks' and '1901' but otherwise those seem pretty unstoppable
