I think I've come around to the "'Islands' is better than 'Crystallised'" argument, although my favorite song on the album might be "Intro".

i think the xx album is a darkhorse for #1 album

yeah i voted islands #4 but not crystallised

actually maybe a tossup between "Intro" and "Shelter"

there is so much fucking fantastic songcraft going on on that album, it's pretty stunning

the xx sound (and look) like some local unsigned myspace band. soooo do not get the appeal of this beyond the fact that they apparently listen to a lot of 80s bands that ilm likes.

Like EZ Snappin says, HWR roll is basically one good riff repeating itself, but unfortunately it reminds me too much of that horrible Orgy's cover of Blue Monday. Zero works for me on a very primitive level... it feels like Karen O is ripping your clothes off!

i like it cause it's got a great floating quality and is great to listen to while biking, but in the context of dubstep i believe hyph mngo is a welcome step towards the effeminate and delicate in a genre that tends to be dominated by ugly bass riffs and the like.

otm - plus this branch of dubstep (more feminine, melodic, more open to house/techno/r&b) really developed strongly this year (guido and darkstar elsehwre in the poll, plus a host of others), and joy orbison was definitely the critical poster boy of the genre.
