As in the first weekend, the Mogwai/Shellac/Tortoise one. I got summat through about them playing it but they don't seem to be on the official lineup yet.

I enjoyed them on Monday (in Cardiff), especially when they got a bit gnarly and cranked up, but they were probably better when I saw them three and a half years ago, and I'm not sure what *that* says.

Did anyone pick up the 3" CD they were selling? It's 11 short tracks of mostly instrumental kinda link music, and very nice, especially if you liked the collaborations that were on that EP from earlier this year.

at least two of those three bands invited Broadcast when they curated ATP before. i think it's pretty dumb that they all get a second go at it - can't someone else have a turn?

i thought about buying 'Microtronics' but i'm not too keen on the noizak stuff the band do.

I think the idea that as it's the fifth ATP event (aside from the B&S one which wasn't called that) the three bands who've curated it to date get a go each day. It's a bit tenuous, arguably lazy, but I'm not arguing with the lineup thus far.

Yeah, if you don't go for the "sound" based stuff, as I think someone said up there, you prolly won't get much out of Microtronics to be honest.

They were very ace in Leeds on sunday, maybe a shame that they did the bare minimum of zerograv poptunes and concentrated on the more punishing grindy stuff, but it was still fantastic. Pendulum and Come On Let's Go and Book Lovers GLEAMED with perfect rightness though. When they did Hammer Without A Master, Trish was so crystal-perfect and gorgeous and PURE-sounding, it was totally startling jolty moment. She seemed pretty chipper throughout, and LAUGHED at one point, and things. Microtronics is great too, it kind of makes the noizak stuff more palatable when presented in tiny radiophonical nuggets like this.

I have absolutely no idea if Trish is TECHNICALLY better/worse vocalist than the Ladytron gels, agree that they probably make a point of not trying to do stuff that's beyond their vocal means wheras she does NOT, but they did sound pretty much flawless when I saw them earlier in the year. The Broadcast live experience is maybe fractionally more hard work overall than the Ladytron one, but not in negative sense at all.

they're playing birmingham tonight. i was unsure whether or not to go (what with being utterly broke and it being nearly christmas). maybe i'll ring up now and see if there are tickets. also, going on my own will be a bit RUBBISH but nobody else in my life (nobody else in my life AND in birmingham) quite gets where they're coming from.

and..surely its possible to like broadcast and yoko ono? and sarah cracknell, for that matter..

This is random because I've just remembered it, after discovering it two years ago... But the last track on Michelle Branch's album contains an uncredited sample of Echo's Answer, which the whole song is built around. And as far as I know, the issue has never been resolved. I think I emailed Warp records at the time.

Broadcast played at Richards this fall and it was the best show I've seen all year. Everyone doing the standing still during the really good DJ set so I was planning about complaining about Vancouver crowds on the internet again, but about two songs after Broadcast came on nearly everyone was moving. Crazy big, tight sound for such an apparently stark setup. I showed up early by my lonesome cos I was crazy bored/drunk already and out pops James of the tour bus with a mug of tea, incredibly nice guy. Can't say the same for hanging out with Malcom Middleton before the Arab Strap show -- my esteem for a band I idolize(d) never dropped so much so fast.

Trish is dope as hell but could stand to wear sexier clothes. Arf Arf, I think you got lucky, because at my Ladytron experience I walked the fuck out after four songs cuz it sounded like bad karaoke.

Another Ladytron gripe: the flyer for their DJ set this summer gave nearly no indication that it was a Mira-only DJ set. Like I'm going to get all excited to see a ho-hum set by a semi-famous girl I only wish I could bang. If I quit going to strip clubs for this reason, why would I change for Ladytron?

Haha Sound was pretty tame, I think; I'm surprised at myself to have lost quite so much interest in a band I used to really go for. I hope the new tracks trace back to their minimalist sample-collage pop stuff, which seemed to drop away and go ultra-dense with this last one. The Avalanches and associates seem to be recreating exactly that Broadcast trick in pretty fresh ways, and since it's always been the thing these guys did most effectively, I kinda feel like they should get back in and claim some damn turf.

Dear All,
Sorry for not posting recently but it's been a little quiet in the world of Broadcast.
Since the end of the last tour the band have just been busily working away on the new LP, the tracks that I've heard so far sound fantastic - Trish's vocals sound sublime and the songs are spot on.
We hope to have the LP out in Summer 2005 with shows to follow.
